NorCal to Disney Route

this is completely OT as well, but funny enough to mention...

when my oldest daughter was 2.5, we traveled to michigan to visit a friend of mine. my daughter had only ever heard of soda referred to as "soda", so when my friend said, "mari, do you want a pop?", my daughter looked at me with wide eyes, and said, "mama, she wants to hit me!"....HAHAHAHAHA!!!

it seems even more comical to me now, 16 years later, because 1) my daughter was never allowed soda, so why was my friend offering soda to a toddler?, and 2) she'd also never been hit, or "popped", so i have no idea why she thought of being hit when she heard the word "pop". anyway, we all cracked up when it happened...

:lmao: That's just classic. I remember the first time I heard my cousins from Colorado say 'pop'. I had absolutely no clue what they were talking about. I thought they were nuts.

we are going to make the Sacto to Anaheim trip on April 3 and back on the 7th
planning to leave around 12:00-2:00 AM on Saturday and Leaving Anaheim around 8-10AM on Wednesday

any suggestions as far as the route, if the Saturday or Wednesday trip will hit rush hour or any alternate routes. straight down I-5 is about 420 miles, anyone know what the above quoted route mileage is???

what is the worst/best case time we arrive in Anaheim with no stops on the way and assuming no traffic. thanks

GO 5!!! You should not have issues with traffic going leave closer to midnight though, so you would make it to DL by 7 a.m. with a quick stop....I imagine you WILL have traffic leaving at that time, seems like kinda commute traffic maybe leave closer to 9ish?!?! Remember the speed limit on parts of 5 is 70!

Interesting (and totally OT) my grandma is from Eastern WA-Yakima Valley- and it has always cracked me up when she calls the couch a davenport. So fussy sounding.

Other couch variants include the divan, the fainting couch (backless or partial-backed), the chaise longue (long with one armrest), the canapé (an ornamental 3-seater), and the ottoman (generally considered a footstool). To conserve space, some sofas double as beds (sofa-bed, daybed, or futon). There are also couches known by genericized trademarked names, such as a davenport or Chesterfield (named for the Earl of Chesterfield). Lofabed (low-fa-bed) a combination of a davenport base and futon mattress resulting in a more comfortable, practical, and economical alternative to the traditional (convertible) sofa-bed.

The term chesterfield is a North American term equivalent to couch or sofa.

for what it's worth

You pretty much have to go the 5! Have the car all gassed up, car packed, snacks...try not to drink too much that morning and GO!!!

nope not even true

. People would say something like "just take the 5N to the 710E to the 57N to the 91E to the 55N to the 110W". It was like a foreign language. :rotfl2:

Yes, that's the one I rely on when we venture out from behind the Orange Curtain. I see on the MousePlanet site some people recommend 5 -> 210 East -> 605 South -> 91 East -> 5 South or 5 -> 210 East -> 605 South -> 57 South -> Ball Road or Katella. If you hit LA outside of rush hour I'd say just stick with "the eye five".

NO god no...5 is the worst...i live in central cali and have to go down the 5 but once I get into LA county right outside of valencia I hit the 210E to the 57S and thats it...no other fwys...I rarely have ever had problems on the 210 which is pasadena fwy and once you get on the 57 you can get in the carpool lane and coast all the way down...i never understood why they say to take 710 then 57 then 91 thats crazy talk and same goes with 210 to 605...thats ridiculous....I havent used the 5 fwy in about 4 years now..my way shaves off a good 20 min and you dont have bumper to bumper traffic like the 5 can be:goodvibes

Sometimes a straight shot is the best...EVERYTIME I go the other way I have had MAJOR issues...like 2 sig alerts, major accidents, etc. To each their own!

we like to take the 91 in, but that's because we stop to visit family in the Torrance area. also, we used to live in the same area so the 91 is the route we are most familiar with.

i notice so many people saying that the 5 is fine....i'm hoping maybe we've just had bad luck when we've gone, then. we're moving near sacramento very soon and obviously we'd like to take the quickest route (we could always visit family in Torrance after DLR, rather than before). it's just that we've had such bad experiences on the 5. also, we used take the 101 to ventura first to visit my dad before heading down to DLR, but being that he passed away last year, i guess we don't really have a reason to go that route anymore.

so it might make more sense for us to take the 5 from now on, too....i just worry because seriously, we have nearly been creamed more times on the 5 than i can count because of bad road conditions and people driving like maniacs (and i commuted to L.A. for a year, so i'm used to heavy traffic situations...my commute was rarely as treacherous as my experiences on the 5 have been).

does nobody else run into these same problems along the 5 between sac and anaheim???

I would say I feel like I could have been killed an average of three times per trip. Oddly enough it is always worse on my way there(5 south) rather than on the way back home.It seems like my minivan is invisible because people start to come into my lane and I am already riding the shoulder by the time my horn lets them know that the need to look before changing lanes. Ugh, oh well, I still take 5 every time, except for once when the grapevine was closed.

Sorry, I had to laugh a little because the part that you quoted from me was just a bunch of made up directions. I didn't actually give real freeway directions. I hope I didn't confuse anyone too much. My point (which was off topic - sorry) was that when we first moved here it was confusing with so many freeway numbers and it sounded so complicated to me. So just to be clear: Those weren't real directions. Please no one try to follow them!

yeah, see we've had very similar experiences (also driving a minivan). i think i'm just going to stick with the 101. we never have near-accidents when we take that route.
