We have requested non smoking for medical reasons. Two of our children have respiratory conditions. What do I do if I am assigned a smoking room? More likely, what do I do if I am assigned a room where they have been smoking? It seems like the cm's response is they send up a bottle of air freshener. We should be checking in around 2 p.m. on saturday 3/13 at vwl for a two bedroom. I would assume they would have true non smoking rooms available.

I listed this "request" first at the top of the ressie.

It's 10 days away today. Call the actual resort and make your request again. CM really has no control on rooms available.

Requests for medical reasons are given top priority.

I wouldn't worry about something that hasn't happened yet.

I agree with Anniet. Don't worry about it before hand. I, too, need a non-smoking room for medical reasons (although I didn't state medical reasons when I requested non-smoking), but I did make non-smoking my first choice and I think Disney tries very, very hard to make the first choice happen. I would be worse with the air freshener idea because I am highly allergic to fragrances as well as any smoke or smoking residue. From the posts, it sounds like they have a strong majority of non-smoking rooms available at the resorts.

Don't spoil the anticipation of your trip by worrying. Just be sure to ask at the time of check in to make sure they are putting you in a non-smoking room.

Have a great trip!!

Don't fall for the air freshener/ionizer. I took a smoking room at CSR with friends a couple years ago because it was available at 8:30am. Big mistake, even with the ionizer running nonstop, the room still smelled 4 nights later.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had 9 DVC trips and never got a smoking room. They have cut down on the number of smoking rooms.

Most hotels have a air purifying machine. You can't be in the room while it is running but it cleans the air in a short time. This problem has come up before.

I suggest that if you find that your non-smoking room has been smoked in you ask the resort manager to forward a note to the Vacation Club member informing them that the person using their points was smoking in a non-smoking room.

Those air purifying machines sometimes help people who are sensitive to the odors associated with smoking, but they don't help me. I have a respiratory disease, and it's the particles that cause the problem... not the odor. So, unless the room is deep cleaned, it doesn't help.

With that said, we have always had our non-smoking for medical reasons request honored. The only time we had a problem was when we were staying at WL Concierge. The room we were assigned smelled heavily of cigar smoke. We went to the desk, they apologized, and immediately switched us to another room.

Have a great trip!

Do not worry--I have been a member since 95, always get a non-smoking-asthma-never been given a smoking room. In case anyone out there thinks this is not a concern-I took a smoking room which was given to me in error once thinking I could stand it. I was up all night never slept a wink, left the room a few times duing the night to get some fresh air. I hope to see the day that all rooms everywhere are non-smoking and the smokers have to all leave the hotel to smoke. I have had about 20 visits to OKW as a DVC member and was never given a smoking room.

I appreciate the positive assurances. This is our first trip to dvc since becoming members in 9/03. It is also two bedrooms for a week. It is a lot of points for us and we want it to be just right. I'll post a short trip report when we get back.

I wouldn't worry about it.

1) Your request is for medical reasons, so it has a higher priority than a simple request.

2) In the 12 years I've owned I only gotten a smoking room once, it was my choice because the room was ready when we arrived at 8:30am after driving all night...so I accepted it rather than waiting, and non of my non-smoking requests were for medical reasons.

well i hope everything works out for you. i cannot see them giving you a smoking room with what you have told them. have a good trip.
