Noisy rooms on Deck 8?

Hi, folks!

Since the subject of noise from Deck 9 marring the experience of staying in a Deck 8 stateroom comes up often, I'd like to start tracking your comments about this. Which room on Deck 8 did you stay in? How was the noise? How much of a problem was it? What time of day was it the worst? Was it ever a problem while you were trying to sleep?

So far I have comments from Gretel, Pluto4President, and DizC1288. But I'd like to hear from you. How was it?

- Dave

8034, Cat. 3. Right under the Goofy Pool. A little loud when people moved chairs or ran on Deck 9 above, VERY LOUD during the Tropical Night Deck Party. The band is directly overhead. We had an EARLY morning the next morning (St. Thomas day) and wanted to get our daughter to bed early. Not possible with a band playing until 11:45 pm.

8598 and the only noise we heard was sometimes in the morning when they were moving chairs around outside of topsiders.

We were usually up fairly early so it didn't bother us, and the kids slept right thru it.

And the only noise was in the morning when chairs were moved and workers were running on deck at topsiders. We were already up - noise could only be heard next to the verandah and would not have awakened us.

Most of our room was under the carpeted topsiders seating area to the side of the serving line, so the only chairs being moved above us were next to the rail. Rest of the day and at night it was completely quiet.

Room 8602 - (As far aft as you can go)

Only real noise was early (I mean early) in the morning when they were setting up Topsiders for breakfast. There was noise for a short period of time in the evenings when they were cleaning up topsiders, but I think they did the bulk of the work while we were at the show and dinner.

8514...Right under the Spa and Hair Salon...very quiet. Never heard any noise (until the last night when our neighbors decided to play frisbee in tha hall!), but nothing from above at all. Great location!

8550 - midship. Occassional sound of someone running overhead, heard mostly on the verandah. Other than that, no noise at all! And our next door neighbors were screamers (we heard them when they were on the verandah, but never when we were in the room). Great location!

8554 - Some noise on the verandah from the ping-pong table. The occasional scraping of deck chairs. But the constant hum of the engines drowned out most noise.

Hey Dave, good Topic!!

On our previous cruises we have stayed in cabins
8006 (all the way forward)
8552 (toward aft)
and 8028 (more mid)

I cannot recall any noise that was a problem at all. Ocasionally we heard noise from above if someone moved a deck chair but that was when we were on our verandah.

Heard no noise while preparing for sleep. We never experienced noise that we would consider marring our experience.

Hope this helps.

MJ

Dave,
We have stayed in 8030 and 8530 and our children stayed in 8026, 8028, 8526 & 8528. We heard an occaisional deck chair being moved but it was never loud enough to disturb us at any time. The great location of these rooms (both the deck level, only 1 deck below the pools etc. and being right near the elevators) FAR outweighed the small amount of noise that we heard.

Dave, I posted a question about noise on deck 2 a little while ago. I know some of my worrying is because we always stay on deck 6, but this little 3 niter was booked with economy in mind. I really don't mind a low motor humming - in fact that type of sound often helps me sleep, but when you read a trip report (on another board) that says "avoid deck 2 aft at any price" one tends to get a little nervous. LOL! I know you are a DCL expert - do you recall any complaints about loud noise from the stabilizers off and on all night? Any feedback would be appreciated.

8562 - Didn't notice any noise while in the cabin. Slept great at night, and my kids slept great in the afternoons during nap times.

Noticed people running a couple times while out on the veranda, but nothing that was bothersome.

We stayed in 8580 (???) this past October. It was right near the elevator. We heard nothing while in the cabin but when on the veranda (which was a rarity) you could hear chairs and whatnot. Definitely was a noiseless room experience..so much so we booked the same room for this coming October!

Thanks for posting. So far we have reports on 7 port-side rooms and 12 starboard-side rooms. Sounds like noise problems are the exception rather than the rule. But I'd still like to hear from more of you.

The only rooms on Deck 2 I recommend staying away from are:

<nl>
2000 - 2004

2036 - 2045

2078 - 2096

2114 - 2129

2139 - 2153

2500 - 2520

2534 - 2547

2586 - 2600

2626

2630 - 2653</nl>

As far as the stabilizers, that's not a constant noise and it's not very jarring. You might hear them when they're being adjusted, but the noise is similar to hearing the flaps on your airplane being extended just before landing.

We were in 8586 and heard the chairs in the morning but it was nothing that woke anyone up. Otherwise it was very quiet.

We just received our papers for the 2/21 Wonder 3 day cruise - part of our 4/3 Land Cruise package and are assigned to room 8542. We are very excited!!!!!! Anyone stay in this room before? I think it is fairly midship.

So Dave, are you saying that all category 12 rooms are just fine as far as noise is involved? I checked the rooms you were mentioning and I didn't see any that were category 12.

We may end up going with Cat. 12 if we need to in order to afford the trip.

Thanks for your opinion.

All of the Category 12's are on Deck 2 Forward, outside the zones I'd identified as potentially noisy. So, yes, any of the 12's should be reasonably noise-free.

We were in room 8542 on the Magic in January. It was a fabulous room in a great location. Like the others are saying, occasionally you would hear deck chairs above on deck 9 but nothing that bothered us at all. We have booked another cruise in November and will be staying in the same location. Have a great trip!!!

We just got back from 4 days in room 8044 (Cat 4) and it was noisy. But...we were all so exhausted it didn't keep any of us from sleeping.
