No Towel Animals!

We've been here at the Grand Floridian since Monday to celebrate my birthday and have not seen one single towel animal! Have they discontinued doing them? Is it the same at the other resorts? How disappointing if they have. It was one of the touches that set Disney resorts apart from other hotels.

Because people freaked out when they didn't get them. They were never meant to be given all the time.

Of course Disney will say it is because they believe guests would prefer their housekeepers to concentrate on cleaning the rooms and not making towel animals.

Best post of the day!! I would worry more about having a clean room than towel animals.

when you start seeing stories about guests threatening to have the housekeeper fired because they didn't get a towel animal, maybe it went too far. I don't know about cost cutting, didn't they use old towels anyway?

Cost cutting can also mean hours worked or workers hired or on shift. If housekeepers aren't having to take extra time to make towel animals for every room, they can service more rooms per day in the same amount of time.

Plus, yes. Not everyone is skilled at making them so some would and others wouldn't, and it could vary from day to day as unlike on a cruise ship, housekeepers do not always have the same block of rooms to service.

Towel animals wouldn't break Disney's bank and I doubt they caused massive customer service issues. Just seems like another unnecessary cost-trimming measure to increase Disney Corp's bottom line. We've all seen those the past few years-shouldn't surprise but is sad. Towel animals were a classic Disney touch :smickey:- it's rude to sneer at those who miss them.

But the fact is that they WERE a huge customer service issues. There were many posts here by irate "guests" who did not receive towel animals. After all, they paid a lot of money for this vacation and they were entitled to towel animals. :-)

^^ has never managed a large budget / workforce ^^

take 1 housekeeper. Say she is good and can do a towel animal in 2 minutes. Also say she cleans 30 rooms a day.

All of the sudden, you have an hour being wasted each day. Maybe with out, they could clean 32 rooms in stead of 30.

But 1 hour of lost productivity x $10 (have no idea what housekeepers make) = $10 a day x 5 = $50 week.

$50 a week x 50 weeks a year that house keeper works = $2,500 lost because of a single house keeper making a towel animal for every room.

now, 25 resorts 100 house keepers per resort. 2500 x $2,500 = $6,500,000

$6.5 million dollars in gain productivity pays for a lot of resort upgrades.

Not trying to be mean, but just showing how the most insignificant things can scale up into big dollars in a company this large.

Actually we had a couple on our trip in October. Not every day or anything but we had two or three through the week.

Towel animals are random at Disney resorts. On the cruise line we got them daily.

I never expect them but get them - maybe once every ten stays? Got them last year I'm sure.

They're no big deal and I don't care if they do away with them, but some folks seem to still get them.

If it's a big deal to you, maybe call housekeeping and tell them your kids would love some?
