No Towel Animals!

Towel animals are random at Disney resorts. On the cruise line we got them daily.

I never expect them but get them - maybe once every ten stays? Got them last year I'm sure.

They're no big deal and I don't care if they do away with them, but some folks seem to still get them.

If it's a big deal to you, maybe call housekeeping and tell them your kids would love some?

Or get a book and learn to do it yourself, then have the kids and your spouse detour by the gift shop or something while you do it yourself.

Bottom line is unlike the cruise line where the cabin stewards ARE taught how to make towel animals, the resort housekeepers are not. (And yes, part of that is also financial as the workers on the cruise ship sign contracts for months at a time and there is a process to leave the ship unlike where you can just quit on land and be done with a job.)

Not trying to be mean, but look up Disney's multi-billion dollar profit margin. They can easily afford it.

This kind of reminds me of how my in-laws live (well, just my mother-in-law now). They are far from poor and will never hurt for money. Some people are confused when they go out (went out) and used coupons for dinner. "They can afford it!, why bother?!" Or when my mother-in-law would look through the newspaper for the best deals on things. Someone very wise (my own father :)) said, "they did those things all their lives and *that* is why they have money now - so, follow their lead."

Just because someone can "easily afford it" doesn't mean they should or have to.

I've never had a towel animal at WDW ever. I wasn't even aware that they did them until I read about it here. So I don't miss something I never had or worried about.

In 30+ trips we've only gotten towel animals once. No big deal to get them and certainly no big deal to not get them.

Buy some Disney stock and a book on making towel animals. Being a stockholder will give you a different point of view on how owners' money should be spent, and the book will enable you to be creative!
We own some Disney stock. We have not owned it long. However, since buying it, it has gone down. Three months from tomorrow we check in. My husband is about ready to sell and and give it directly to Disney since we are losing it anyway.

People would whine and complain that they didn't get towel animals. They would go to the front desk, call, and email because how dare Disney not give them a towel animal. Don't you know how much they are spending on a vacation? They would demand them and flat out be rude about it. I wouldn't blame Disney at all if they decided to just say "Forget it. It's not worth it."

I've received some great towel animals in the past during various trips however, we had the standard towel Mickey head in our room upon arrival at Aulani last week and I think that was just fine. If they did that simple one upon arrival at each of the resorts, I think that would be just enough of a nice touch.

I honestly don't think it was about money.

Like so many other little pieces of Disney magic, it has disappeared because people thought it was something they were owed. Like the divers with signs and the personalized menus at the Coral Reef, Disney has had to remove them so that no one can feel deprived when they didn't get that extra little bit of magic.

I can vividly remember our very first time to ever get towel animals. We were staying at the Poly in 2003, came back late one night after a long day in the parks and they were everywhere! :goodvibes It was so magical, we'd never seen anything like it in our lives. The whole rest of the week we came back to various towel animal scenes, Nic was 3 at the time and absolutely loved it! :) I wish they could have kept them as just a very sporadic and special type of thing, but people went completely NUTS when they didn't get them, or if they weren't as nice as someone else's, so Disney had no choice but to stop.

And in the fact that their little snowflake would be traumatized for the rest of their life, lol.

I think we had one on our trip last October. I do remember having seen more during previous trips, but honestly until I came upon this link I never really thought about it. We spend so much time in the parks and enjoying the entire resort that I never noticed the fact they were gone. It's funny to see what people look forward to and miss, but I will say the other little bits of Disney magic we did experience were far better than a towel animal. I would rather the money go toward other things.

I remember reading in previous posts that the housekeepers made them on their own time at home or on break?
I must admit I always tip, but would tip more if we got towel animals. Not because of the towels, but because I feel for the hard work they do, and if they are going over and above on little things, it means they are probably doing a nicer job on the room in general.

Sounds like how the "grey stuff" got on the menu rather than kept for surprises. The entitlement mentality of many a Disney guest makes me wanna slap something (or someone).

No. That was just stupid. When you have an extremely popular film/song that goes "Try the grey stuff it's delicious don't believe me ask the dishes" and then open a restaurant about it you'd better damn well have "grey stuff" on the menu from day 1.

ETA: open a restaurant themed about the song AND name the restaurant after the song making the reference to grey stuff. It's not like they opened a restaurant called "Beast's Castle" and people were like "where's the grey stuff?" The restaurant name is a specific reference to the song.

Spoiled guests still felt entitled to it. If I were told (not that I really gave a damn) that the grey stuff wasn't available on a regular basis, I'd be cool with it. My child wouldn't be a snowflake. He/she doesn't HAVE to have the grey stuff OR towel animals.

Whether they can afford it or not isn't relevant. They were not an entitlement. Depended on whether your housekeeper had the time or inclination to make them. Then guests started behaving as if they were part of what the guest paid for the room and if they didn't get one, they complained. If the room down the hall got one and they didn't, they complained. If they read on the internet about people getting them and they didn't get one, they complained. Disney could do one of two things.. either put a towel animal in every room, which would mean training every housekeeper, or they could stop putting towel animals in any room.

Apparently some housekeepers will still do them...but they shouldn't be expected every time.

Disney has had to remove them so that no one can feel deprived when they didn't get that extra little bit of magic.

They had to remove the personalized menus and diver messages because people found out about it on the internet, someone released the restaurant manager's direct number, and her voice mail was filled up with guests begging for the special treatment. When too many people knew about it, they couldn't keep up. And the guests would get mad or anxious when she didn't call back immediately, and leave more messages.
