No Thunder Mountain or SDMT at MNSSHP?

Taking one of the biggest attractions (in terms of ridership) offline?

Interesting strategy. What does it cost them to run it? 10 employees x 6 hours x $10/hr = $600?! I know there's electricity, but are they turning the lights off when its not running? How does $600 per night savings mean anything to them? They risk losing 10 people to this move and they are now in the hole. I don't get it. I guess they know something we dont?

Other people are now saying they have called Disney and they have said it's an error and the rides will be running...hmmm....

My only guess right now is cost cutting. I've never been to one of these parties but I don't think I'd focus on the rides anyways. That doesn't no mean they should be closed though.

My family focuses specifically on the rides. While the bulk of the crowd is jammed into Main Street and character greets we are able to do about 3 days worth of rides in one evening. It was a family tradition to be ride commandos at these parties. That ended last year when the price was raised beyond what is acceptable. This just guarantees our party days are over.

Not saying true or false, just that I will wait for OFFICIAL from Disney to verify their webpage is correct or fix the webpage.

Yes, i've also heard this. Read it on Disney Parks Mom's FAQ. Not sure on the reason why though...

They are not part of Disney and are often quite wrong so that wouldn't be any kind of confirmation.

More than that. I think the ride alone has more than that, plus the store, plus on the ground crew, plus coordinators, plus custodial. Closing that area could save a good bit.

If they are calling the central line ............. well we all know what that means.

Bottom line if Disney is being flooded with calls and they know it's a mistake, we are talking MINUTES to fix on the website ........ and so far (15 minutes ago) they haven't.

And you all might be part of the reason why (and that was us some trips) ........... you are saving $30 on a one day ticket to get 8 hours with most of that time low crowds, shorter lines. Eliminating some of the top draws for those trying to save on a ticket may push those folks to buying one day tickets, staying longer etc.

It makes no sense for it to be down. Hopefully they have it running on the party night.

Actually I can make lots of sense from it.

With Splash down and Tom Sawyer closed at night, shutting down BTM can close that entire section of the park and save them plenty of money.

7DMT is often used by guests at the end of the night for a way to extend park time and coincidently on party night will likely put you out in the big crowds, after CMs stopped looking for wristbands ............ perfect timing to see the parade and if you mix in hub the show. Last year there were lots of complaints of guests sighted with no wristbands. Disney has got the TS covered with the booking times or location, stops you on rides and stores and even blocks bathrooms .......... which ride can you virtually hide in until parade time? 7DMT.

PS I'm still going and this will not impact us because we go for the party.

FYI, a lot of people said they have contacted Disney and they have said both Thunder Mountain and 7DMT will be operating during MNSSHP and MVMCP. The official Disney website shows incorrect information at the time of this writing.
Thats good to hear don't think I would go if both rides were down. Rides are the focus for me also just wouldn't go if they were down as my own little protest.

Perhaps.

Let say it saves them 30 employees, so about $2000 per night in labor. If 40 people cancel because they cant ride it, then they lose. I just wouldn't risk it. But they have all the data...

ETA:
Also, if not having the people eater (routinely sees 30 min waits), and it pushes waits higher elsewhere, they run the risk of people not returning since it seems more crowded. Therefore putting future revenues at risk. It does seem like something they would do. Stepping over a $1 to make a dime. Should be their new corporate motto.

.

Our trips are 2 full weeks. You can only get 10 day tickets. The Party gave us an 11th day in the parks. Zero chance we would by another one day ticket.

You are right, we don't have the data, but if this is indeed true then I think they are saving way more than folks think.

All I'm saying is they haven't had any problems selling tickets even with price increase last year, and they won't have any problems selling them this year even without these rides. I think most guests focus on the party elements, and then enjoy some rides. I'm going with or without those rides, heck they can close SM for all I care because I am enjoying the parades, the shows, the characters and party atmosphere.

Disney offers lots of other options including WP&M for long term guests. I imagine they would be happy for you to add that, book ADRs, go to Disney Springs and many other non-park activities. Disney already has you there for 14 days, don't think they are worried about you not spending money because of a couple rides.

Focus isn't on the rides, though more than a few people use it as an excuse to get shorter line. Especially 7DMT still has decent lines still during the parties. Now you are going to start having lines at other rides/more people wandering and bumping into each other.
While I do agree with you and have seen plenty of comments regarding going during the party to get those potential lower wait times, if you go to Disney's website for the party the second thing you'll see about the party is about attractions being opened so if someone was going to look at the webpage it's one of the first things they'll read about the party.

It goes in this order of information presented on the party page of the website:
IMPORTANT PARTY DATES & DETAILS
VILLAINOUS ENTERTAINMENT
CANDY, COSTUMES & CHARACTERS
DEVILISHLY DELIGHTFUL ADDITIONS

BTMRR is unlikely...more likely is they pulled both rides, truly wanting to shut BTMRR so they could completely close that end of the park, and then planned to "add back" just 7MDT if outcry was too great, so they'd look like they were listening.

It's actually standard negotiation - ask for the world, knowing you have give backs you'll make to get the deal you actually wanted in the end...

I mean, look at how many people are now happy, with 2 less big rides that last year (BTMRR and Splash for refurb)...so next year, they can keep them down and everyone will say "well, that's how it is now at Halloween"...

My first thought was "well, they got through most of the party season without it last year (because of the refurbishment) so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them try it this year.

Well maybe Disney will add BTMRR and SDMT at a later date? Wishful thinking I suppose
As you may have seen from posts above, Disney has added 7DMT to the lineup (assuming following lots of complaints/cancellations). BTMR may be added at a later date.
