Do you eat your snack cakes frozen?

Huh. I don't know any adults who eat snack cakes. Last time I had one, maybe age 12? Never had them frozen.

I don't know any adults who don't eat snack cakes.

We must run in very different circles!
I love the Hostess Cinnamon Coffee Cakes. BUT, they recently changed their recipe (no more streusel topping or marbling going through the cake. The cake part is still (supposedly) the same, but it's not the same thing.

I rarely have any, buy when I do, I love them frozen. I also like frozen cake and frozen old fashioned donuts
:-) . Oh and 7 layer bars are awesome frozen.

Never any Hostess cakes or similar. We did buy Poptarts that were meant to be frozen and tried those.

My aunt always had ring-dings in the freezer for us when we were kids, especially yummy in the summer :)
Good memories

DH keeps a stash of snack cakes. Must always have a variety on hand lol and he averages almost 2/day. I’ll try remembering to freeze some after we get through this extra frozen winter.

The kids and I rarely eat them though. We use our empty/decadent calories elsewhere 😋

Yes,I do little Debbies and Tasty Cakes. It makes them taste better

I'm in the "eating snack cakes" circle. In fact, my employer started "Snack Friday" during covid and every other Friday (opposite Friday of Payday) we have snacks put out for the taking. Snack cakes are often one of the choices.

It's not unusual to find a box of cakes in our pantry - the favorites are Twinkies, Pecan Spinwheels, and Oatmeal Cream Pies.

I never thought to try them frozen but now I'm going to have to do that :) During this snowstorm (in Kentucky, where we got a lot less than planned but still in a mess) I've been enjoying honeybuns with a sliver of butter on it, and microwaved. I hadn't done that in years but somehow the cold snowed in weather made me want that.

huh, never thought to put them in the freezer, although I am very much a Thin Mints in the freezer kinda gal!
I will be trying this with my TastyKakes this summer, great idea!

Love frozen Thin Mints, something else this thread reminded me of:
Frozen Charleston Chews are next level, especially if you can find the bite size box.

I don't eat them anymore due to me watching what I eat, but holy moly, if they didn't make me gain weight, I'd be eating Hostess products all the time. I used to love them, and I'm sure I'd still love them. I never had them frozen though, and I probably wouldn't care for it. It'd be to hard to pull the frosting off the cupcakes (I'd always eat the frosting last) and split the Susie Q into two parts (I used to love doing that). I'm a kid at heart so, eating these would make me feel like a kid again. Now I'm craving Hostess Cupcakes, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos and Susie Qs - thanks @kdonnel :rotfl:

Being able to deconstruct the snack cake, whatever one it is, is one of the reasons I like them frozen. It's easy to pull frosting off, or in the case of a Twinkie or Twinkie like treat, eat the cake and save all the filling for last.

I've tried snack cakes maybe 5 times since I turned 30 and just can't do it. They are pretty gross when compared with what snack cakes were like when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. I never ate them frozen, although in high school, we might have consumed a few frozen Pepperidge Farms cakes (after an evening of herbal indulgence ;) )!

I rarely eat snack cakes as an adult, but buy them occasionally as a guilty pleasure. My favorites are Yodels, Devil Dogs, and Funny Bones (prefer Drake’s products over Hostess), which all taste great frozen. Also love frozen Girl Scout Thin Mints.

I'm not sure I have ever eaten a thawed Pepperidge Farm cake!

They are just giant snack cakes!

They do taste WAY different from the 60s don't they. Everything. Ho-Hos, Pop-Tarts even. I am always trying to figure out what they did. Put more/different bad stuff in or did they take it out and put healthier stuff in?

I don't eat them often, but the Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes are great frozen! And not frozen, too. My brother loves them and since you can only find them at Christmas (I know they have other shapes that are basically the same as the trees year 'round, he swears the trees taste better), he'll stock up on a few boxes and freeze them. He was eating one right out of the freezer once and I tried it, it was quite delicious!

I imagine the changes are most likely related to cost, making the product cheaper.

I bet that is most likely a case of more/different bad stuff.
