No nighttime spectaculars on weekdays in early 2020?

They had to get special permission to do this during the anniversary year.
But they still run full fireworks the entire holiday season that starts in early November.

For anyone else planning a trip during low season, good information about low season entertainment schedules is available in the sticky threads at the top of the first page:

The Disneyland fireworks / Anaheim government / local neighborhoods situation has been complicated and ongoing for years.

It has involved multiple lawsuits, political groups, campaign contributions, environmental studies, media campaigns, technological innovations, and has been going on for years.

It’s not as simple as “there’s a noise ordinance” and it’s certainly not as simple as “cost cutting”.

Just one example: Disney put money into designing and implementing a new fireworks launch system to reduce noise and waste. If they just wanted to cut costs, why bother?

Also, Mickey’s Mix Magic is fun. Of course, as with everything else, you have to go in with the right attitude. Those determined to be disappointed will most certainly always have their expectations met!

Yes, that's what I was getting at: both the political issue and the desire to cut costs come into play. Conveniently, Disney's desire to cut costs dovetails with the city's desire to reduce noise from fireworks, so we get no fireworks on off-season weekdays.

And yes, I just don't like MixMagic. I think it's probably the worst fireworks show in Disneyland history, the cringeworthy outcome of Disney's misguided attempt at being hip and cool, and a poor successor to great Disneyland fireworks shows like Remember...Dreams Come True. The theme park equivalent of your dad trying to dance to the music "the kids are listening to these days" to look cool and impress his daughter's friends. Well, sorry dad, I'm not impressed. If you enjoy it I'm happy for you, but people actually can simply disagree with your personal taste without it having anything to do with being "determined to be disappointed" or "not having the right attitude." The only thing I'm determined to do is not watch a fireworks show set to lousy Disneyfied EDM music. A great Disney fireworks show should evoke awe and emotion, not a bad nightclub experience in Europe circa 2003.

This bit from a thread theluckyrabbit posted by HydroGuy describes my pain precisely:

"The entertainment offerings at DLR are significantly reduced during off-season. WDW vets in particular may get tripped up by this as WDW works differently in this regard. Non-regular DLR visitors planning a multi-day trip may not be aware of this either.

Compounding things further, DLR does not post their entertainment schedule until 1-3 months ahead of time. So if you plan an off-season trip far in advance, you may find out too late that you will not be able to see some of the excellent shows and parades at DLR. This is different from WDW where park hours, EMH, and entertainment are posted at least 6 months in advance. WDW vets can confidently plan a WDW trip for any week of the year and be comfortable they will have access to all of the entertainment offerings. Thinking that DLR works similarly is a mistake."

What? Kids aren't on Christmas break in early November, yet they shoot fireworks every night of the holiday season.
And didn't they run Disneyland Forever during the anniversary year?

And when Mickey's Halloween Party was in DL, didn't they run full fireworks during the week on party night?
They had to get special permission to do this during the anniversary year.
During November and for the 50th, Disney pays a "penalty" for exceeding the days Anaheim allows for fireworks. They were considered special events. It is dovetailed with Anaheim politics, and if the City of Anaheim feels it would have more hotel spaced used.

Here are the lyrics just in case you want to sing along next time:

[Intro]
Yeah! Yo!

[Verse 1]
Welcome to the party, it's the time o' the year (Yeah!)
All our friends invited so we startin' to cheer (Yeah!)
Step inside the room, watch the night get active
Know the selfie game strong ‘cause the lights is flashin'
All my fellas is ready
All my ladies are wi' me
I’m lookin’ dapper for the party
And I’m walkin’ in pretty
I got the DJ spinnin’ and it’s fillin’ the room
If it’s me and you chillin’ it’s a trip to the moon
(Ha!)

[Pre-Chorus]
We ready to party (Ready to party)
We won't be late (We won't be late)
Let's get it started 'cause we just can't wait (We can't wait)
If you're excited (You're excited)
Lemme hear you say (Lemme hear you)
M-I-C-K-E-Y
M-O-U-S-E

[Chorus]
(Hey!)
Come on, everybody, getcha ears on!
It's a good, good, good, good time
Oh yeah, we're gonna dance all night
It's a good, good, good, good time
To the east, yeah
Rock it to the west, yeah
Celebrate, yeah
Party with the best, yeah
Everybody getcha ears on!
It's a good, good, good, good time

[Verse 2]
(Yeah!)
It’s a party, it’s a party, it’s a party
Right, I’m singing on key ‘cause it’s open to everybody (Hey!)
It’s a party, it’s a party, it’s a party
And I know I don’t need anybody to come and stop me
I got a feelin’!
We throw our hands in the air
Leave the drama outside, there’s a party in here
I got a feelin’!
Maybe it’s the love in the air
I mean I’ve been around the world
Just to find it in here

I just noticed that on Feb 18 - which is the Tuesday after President's day - Fireworks are scheduled. I guess this is because they usually do Fireworks on Mondays...and this is kind of the Monday of that holiday weekend. I hope it stays the same!

They don’t usually do fireworks on Monday...

This is just speculation, but they might do fireworks that whole week due to many school districts around the country having that entire week off. We are in NorCal and have visited several times President’s Day week (and will be there this year too) and it’s always very busy.

Oh great! I thought I'd chosen one of the least busy weeks
It makes me feel a little better that they seem to have pretty long hours on Tuesday the 18th. When we went that week years ago, they were woefully unprepared for the crowds and had I think a 10 am opening, pretty early close, and weren’t running at full capacity because it was off season. Since hours are 8-11 I’m hoping they will be well-staffed at least! We’ve always had a great time even when it’s busy (and it shouldn’t be Christmas week busy, although who knows what ROTR will do to the crowds!)

Was that in 2017? The Tuesday after Presidents’ Day in 2017 is legendary in my brain for how astoundingly crowded it was with short hours and lack of staffing and just generally a mess.

No, this would have been 4-5 years ago, but it did happen on more than one trip! On at least one of those visits they ended up having to extend evening hours because it was so crowded. It is disappointing to hear they were still unprepared in 2017, it’s not like Ski Week is a new thing. I know it is not common in SoCal but it is common in districts not too far away.

Is this new? We saw both world of color and fantasmic the during the first week of March 2017.

Isn’t there also a big cheer competition during this time in February?

Lol I tried so hard to pick a quiet week for our trip! Oh well having been there twice and never again christmas week, at least it wont be that bad! And I was sad about the fireworks not going during the week till I saw the calendar for tues 18th so thats a plus!
