No Bed Bugs At Boardwalk!

AAA Standards must be very low since they included BCV on the list. If what we here on these boards is 1/2 true about BCV, the ants, the water pressure, the front desk treating members like "poor cousins", the various problems with the rooms that go unfixed, the problems with the air conditioners in the summer just to mention a few. I would say that AAA should take a closer look at these awards they put out there.

Has BCV had the problems you listed ??? I'll take the posters words that they have. Except for the low water pressure we experienced shortly after BCV opened - which has since been fixed- I have experienced nothing but AAA treatment.

BCV has many "problems". Let me list a few:

1. It is way too close and convenient to Epcot.
2. There are far too many restauraunts for every taste within a 5 minute walk.
3. SAB is too cool of a pool.
4. The quiet pool is too big.
5. The walk to the ESPN Club and Jelly Rolls is too hard after a night of drinking.

***"5. The walk to the ESPN Club and Jelly Rolls is too hard after a night of drinking."***

Don't you mean the walk back FROM ESPN Club and Jelly Rolls ;-)

It can be both ways depending on how long we sampled the wares in France before heading to the Boardwalk!

Maybe this is the first statement you have made that I can agree with. "if what we hear on these boards is 1/2 true"

We don't know for sure that it's even 1/2 true. And even if it is it is a very small percentage of the total number guests staying at this resort.

Not everyone that stays at the BCV comes back to this forum and gives a report. Even the ones that read this board are more than likely satisified customer. There are many that don't even know these forums exist or care.

Personally the majority of complaints I read on these forums is nitpiking in my opinion anyway.

So what if the water pressure is different from your own personal bathroom, most hotels are. So what if they changed the air conditioning to save money, they will come adjust it if you are just dying from heat. Maybe the front desk personnel could be friendlier at times, I am sure that many are not kind to them. As to the ants well it's Florida and they took care of the situation and a few ants does not bother those of us who live with the Florida conditions. If you can't take the bugs then stay out of Floridia.

Personally for some reason I think Disney has become the vacation destination some love to hate. I just know that any situation can be made into something worse than it really is, it's all ones perspective. I personally try to see something pleasant out of it all. If I dislike something as much as some appear to, I would never go there.

I have had problems at Disney, so what it's the real world. They have been treated professionaly each time and resolved, that's all I ask for.

As to the air conditioning and water pressure at the BCV I find them highly acceptable. I have never had anyone be rude to me at the front desk. Did everyone fall over me like I was the King of Siam, of course not. As to bugs well unless it's bigger than my foot I can deal with them.

I just think sometimes what we read here is a very small part fact and a huge part of emotion.

I mean lets not forget how many people blasted Disney over the last hurricane situation. :)

BINGO! Another term would be "petty."

I wonder if some go to WDW and say, "Let's see what I can find wrong with this trip, there has to be something!"

I call those people - happy complainers, they are only happy if they are complaining! God forbid if they went and just had a good time. Funny thing is most complainers seem to also have a countdown clock under their signature, so I guess it's not that bad ;) !

.... I agree with your post but want to point out one thing: When BCV opened, the water pressure wasn't just low, it was LOWWWW !!!. Unacceptably low. Too low to rinse the soap off. It was bad. However, I'm happy to say they corrected the problem. Water pressure at BCV is fine, normal, great, etc.

Thanks for the update, we stayed the week of Grand Opening and did not notice a problem. If they have changed it then even better. :)

At the beginning of this thread, when I stated that Disney is cutting costs in the Parks, I also said that it did not diminish the wonderful time we had in the Parks. We are a family of 6 that have stayed at Disney World on 21 occasions since 1989 for a total of approximately 9 months. At this point, we have a fairly good perspective on exactly what the Disney experience is to us. From time to time, we have noticed that something may be less well cared for or that something is no longer available. We miss, for example, Tapestry Of Nations and Body Wars at Epcot. If I thought about it for a few minutes, I could think of elements of every other Park that has been scaled back or no longer exists. However, new elements have been added to each Park and we (members of my family) all feel that our total Disney experience has certainly improved over the years. When we first came to Disney in 1989, there were two Parks, the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, and only a few hotels - Grand Floridian, Poly, Contemporary, and Fort Wilderness Campground. Maybe there were others, but I cannot remember them at the moment. In the last 15 years, Disney World has VASTLY expanded, almost entirely for the better. Now, there is truly something for everyone at Disney World. Where park passes once offered admission to two Parks, they now offer admission to four Parks, two water parks, Pleasure Island, etc. Every hotel offers some unique feature that makes that hotel interesting to visit. If Disney's maintenance is occasionally slow, here or there, to pick up the trash or clean a toilet, this is a deficiency of a slight degree by comparison to other places. The Parks, hotels, bathrooms, and grounds are not dirty. Rather, they are truly beautiful and well cared for. Comparing Disney World to the conditions that I encounter in my daily life in Boston, Disney World is paradise. Try the bathrooms at Logan Airport or on the Massachusetts Turnpike to see how bad a "well cared for" property can get. The Boston Common and Public Gardens, though beautiful, are spotted with litter. A patch of grass is hard to find in Harvard Yard, the wealthiest University in the world. Disney does a great job of cleaning up after huge crowds. In 2002, the Magic Kingdom had 14 million visitors and Epcot, Disney/MGM and Animal Kingdom each had 8 million visitors to clean up after. I have observed that some of these visitors trash or vandalize the Parks and hotels, yet everything is promptly restored by Disney. So I'm inclined to give Disney a break on the few small things that are slightly less than perfect. And as for Boardwalk, well it was perfect during our visit and we really didn't find anything to complain about. So, I guess you may infer that I had a wonderful vacation and that I'm anxiously awaiting our next visit to Disney World in February 2005.

nntucket, Well said.

However, I was kind of hoping the nay-sayers would convince themselves that WDW was no longer worth their time, and we'd benefit from shorter lines and perhaps even a really cheap DVC resale. :cool1:

This thread is dead and rotting. Someone please shut it down.

Rumor has it they are heading over for the grand opening of SSR. The combination of lower points & tender generation X flesh made the move a no brainer.

:p :teeth: LOL!

I have noticed distinct declines in the parks, but never at the DVC resorts. Every stay has been fabulous. I can't think of a single complaint we've had about our accomodations on any of our trips. (Well, there was the time my wife kept putting laundry detergent in the dishwasher and flooding the place, but I can't in good conscience blame Eisner for that.)

What you also had was a much smaller pool of people staying in WDW resorts. The Contempory, Poly, and FW Cabins are only 2300 rooms. The AS and PC are 8640 rooms.

I actually do agree with Pa. Disney used to not be terribly affordable. In an effort to keep ticket costs down (and ticket cost in particular - but also room costs) - particularly the past few years with the travel slowdown and recession - Disney has had to cut services to get the same level of profit. And it isn't working - their last results show that they have more guests in the park, but less profit - and significantly less profit per guest. Appeal to people who only want to spend $60 a night on a hotel room - and your volume and margin on things like tshirts and plush dolls is also going to go down. So your choices become lower profit, cutting costs, or raising prices. Disney has chosen the first two - and a little of the third - but prices have not increased nearly as much as the cost of energy or insurance the past few years.

Compare this to DCL - where Disney has been able to keep a relatively high per passenger costs - and the cruise staff shows the difference - a higher level of staffing, far superior customer service, a better kept environment.

WOW I used the savings of staying at a value resort last Feb as an opportunity to pick up and head back down to Disney being we were there just 4 1/2 months prior. If it hadn't been for the special I would not have been lured into returning so quickly and taking another week long trip. I was excited to save $$ but in reality was that what I did? Saving $$ would have meant not going down at all. We booked and left within a months time. Luckily we had the disposable income and the time off. We spent a ton in add ons like eating out. We make it a point to eat at the finer restaurants at least 5 nights out of a 6 night trip.

It is amazing that you blame the guests on the "problems" at WDW now. Just for example we would have spent alot more in the Living Seas gift shop had they had Finding Nemo merchandise available. All we could find was a pink nemo shirt and since we have a boy that didn't work.

So are we to blame that we didn't spend more? How about the fact that some of the gift stores are closed or that you find the EXACT same thing in every store in Disney. The uniqueness that set the parks apart is sadly gone. Another example we went to buy DH a wind breaker and he found one he loved and of course there were tons in all but his size (he is average for a man) The jacket was approx $150, normally for a wind jacket we would not spend that at home but hey we were at Disney why not? Well we couldn't even if we wanted too due to poor merchandise restocking.
I could go ojn and on about the little things that need to be turned around to make Disney profitable. Trust me it isn't the fact that people don't want to spend they know where they are and I would say a good 75% don't go to be thrifty. It is that they can't...the merchandise is repetitive and the selection hadn't changed in the time between our late Sept trip and out early Feb trip. Trust me I wanted to give Disney our money and couldn't. It was the first time I came home with left over spending money.

So please don't blame the guests. People for the most part know Disney isn't a thrifty vacation they are prepared to spend, the problem is WDW isn't prepared to take it anymore.

Don't ask me how long it took me to find my first turkey leg on the last vacation OMG I almost went mad walking past the unmanned carts. There was a show on food network saying they are amazing so I wanted to try one eating nothing the entire day saving myself for the leg. Well I finally got one and they are insanely good but I digress!

I worked in retail my entire HS years and while I went to college and the motto of one place I worked for was "For every compliment that gets to upper management 20 complaints will beat it there" that also stands true for word of mouth. For every one person that tells a friend about a great experience that same person would tell 20 about their bad experience. It is because bad expereinces leave a bigger mark. It is management's goal to keep their customers happy and lessen the bad experiences. So you have to take what you read on the boards with that in mind.

Even I just posted that I wish I could have spent more money at Disney last Feb but with all that said I had a wonderful vacation and plan to have many amazing memories of my son and family there. So much so we bought the DVC...I guess that is where my extra spending money went LOL:)

I just need to say that I was very worried about an upcoming trip last December to WDW staying at the BCV. I had stayed there 6 months prior, and I had a fantastic experience. However, in the months ensuing I read quite a few negative posts about the BCV. In reality I had another beatiful room and wonderful vacation I realized that one unfulfilled expectation did not mean the entire resort was subpar.

I am leaving in a couple days for another long vacation staying for the third time at the BCV, and I feel confident that it will be another great experience. Sandie

Sandieb,

You will have a great time, because it is impossible not to have a great time at the Beach Club . . . or at Boardwalk . . . or at Old Key West . . . or at Wilderness Lodge . . . . . . . . . or the other DVC resorts. Enjoy your vacation and ignore the complainers on this board.
