NJ Governor resigns over gay affair! (Picture of Accuser on Pg. 1)

While my Sister and BIL saw him in Woodbridge at the local level of government, rumors were swirling around THEN about him and his "preferences". Although that is a personal choice, he has crossed the line of MORAL CULPABILITY.

I believe the true PROBLEM is a TRUST issue. If a man cannot HONOR a vow/commitment/promise to his wife and probably LIED many times to cover himself, HOW CAN HIS WORD EVER be trusted again? This is what truly disgraces HIM. It is not a reflection on NJ as a whole, but NJ as a whole should be disappointed in him as a person and not thought to be credible as a leader anymore. I really don't want a man of his CHARACTER at the helm of my state. SHAME ON HIM

HE ONLY came public with this information because of the suit at hand. He also only came forward at this time because the suit was filed TODAY. He probably would not come forward, IF it were not on public record. shame on him.

His poor wife and daughters. They are the victims here. HE should not be "blaming" society and "blaming" his trying to "fit in" with his family upbringing and heritage. I am sure he was NOT BROUGHT UP to be an adulterer. SHAME ON HIM!

Yup. My hubby is a policeman and told me this story a long time ago....in fact, DH sort of implied that alot of people knew about him being gay or bisexual for quite awhile....apparently many people in his inner circle (and beyond) knew about it.

but this whole thing makes me just sad:
1)How sad in this day and age he felt the need to resign about this.
2) How sad in this day and age that he felt the need to HIDE this from everyone
3) How sad that he probably would never have been elected governor if people knew beforehand.
4)How sad that he would betray his wife like this....whether it be a female or a male that he was having an affair with!
5) How sad that this guy was going to try to blackmaiol him over a consensual relationship! I bet the guy just assumed he would pay up, rather than "come out."
6) How sad that it took something like this for him to finally admit the truth.
7) How sad is it the amount of jokes I have heard in the last hour or so about this. Would people's reactions be the same if he had admitted an extramarital relationship with a woman????

I could go on and on about the 'sad" things.

I feel so badly for his wife....the humiliation that she must be feeling. I also feel bad for him. His sexual preference has nothing to do with how he ran the state!

Bobbi
!-I don;t think he resigned because he was gay, but because of the jobs he handed his boyfriend
2-I agree
3-I don't think that's true. I *think* our county executive is gay..or former, not sure of he's still in office but he was for a very long time.
4-I think it is 100 times worse that it was a man-if I were in the wife's shoes I would be humiliated knowing that I was lied ot while we dtaed, lied to when we got engaged and lied to during our whole marriage-the entire relationshiop form the start was based on lies
5,6, 7 agreed

If I was his wife I most certainly would not be standing by his side-I'd have had to restrain myself from attacking him, honestly.

I agree with you on that!....I don't know if i could have stood up there next to him like that either 'supporting" him. On that note, i don't think I could have stood up there next to Kobe Bryant and "supported" him as his wife either.

After hearing more and thinking more about it, I agree with you on #1....I don't think he resigned over being gay....but resigned about the "perks" being given to the boyfriend. I remember all the controversy about him having that job in the first place. So, I guess I add to my 'sad" comments.....how 'sad" of the governor to be foolish enough to award his boyfriend OR girlfriend a job!

Oh I so agree about Kobe's wife!

I feel sorry for the whole family.

Since no marriage is perfect, I only hope they can work it out and decide on what's best for all.

edited to add: Gail if YOU don't get banned for all the bigoted crap you typed here than NOONE should get banned.

Looks to me they banned the wrong GAIL!!!!

Agreed. Some of these posts here are seriously disturbed, hateful and discriminating. There is no excuse for name calling. That's just ignorant and rude. Saying "I have a friend who is gay but...." doesn't mean you are not homophobic.

So, he lied. What, you never lied before? Other politicians never lied before? Yes, I feel sorry for his family. But look at the big picture. Why was he lying his whole life? It's exactly because of society's ignorance & intolerant.

Before pointing a finger at others, point it to ourselves first.

There is more unadulterated hypocrisy on this thread than I've seen on any thread in a long time.

For those of you who are so morally offended by the thought of the man's being gay, or anyone being gay, for that matter. What in G-d's name are you doing here?

Adultery is not a new behavior to a politician. Nor is it a novel behavior to many, many people in the world. Make of it what you will, use it to throw stones, but it doesn't change a thing. It happens and it happens in every elected office of this country and in "Royal" offices of other countries. It will continue to happen until the end of time.

For those of you who are so fiercely outraged, your energy would be better spent on bended knee beseeching your G-d, or higher power for mercy for your judgmental souls.

Get over yourselves people. Not one of you, not one, is better than he.

You must be joking right? There is not a chance this can be blamed on our society! Are you suggesting his behavior is excuseable or justified? Perhaps he has chosen to lie his whole life because he is ashamed. Perhaps he is just a compulsive liar. Perhaps a million reasons but society is not responsible for his atrocities. He made his bed and must now lie in it. His owning up to his actions now is not out of some noble self-awareness; it was because it was all getting ready to hit the fan.

I do feel for his family, but him? Not a chance. I don't think the people of NJ should feel anything other than outraged by his behavior. It doesn't reflect on the state or it's people - only on him.

From what I have read .... his wife new exactly what she was getting herself into....Maybe she agreed to the relationships outside the marriage....only she knows.....

that is what I heard a long time ago....when the Cape May incident happened. The wife helped to cover up the story. whether this is true or not, we may never know, but rumor had it that she did know the situation.

At least his first wife knows it definitely wasn't her. :teeth:

Tell me do you have to be stupid to get into politics or is the stupidity a bonus of the job.

I cannot beleive the bigoted, narrowminded, judgemental crap that GailT posted. And she is still here. Go figure. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

If McGreevy is going to step down he should do it effective immediately so that a governor of that the people of New Jersey choose can be elected. By delaying the resignation until November, he is insuring that a democratic state legislator will take over. If he knows now that he is leaving, then he should give the people a choice.

If he knows now that he is leaving, then he should give the people a choice.

They already had a choice and they chose a democrat. Look at it this way...he's saving the taxpayers money!:D

I don't mean to make light of this whole situation, but I just saw a commercial with McGreevey. At the end he says, "Come out.....and see what's new in New Jersey".

I feel bad for him(and his family). I can't imagine living my whole life as a lie, denying who I was to try and fit an image of what I thought I was supposed to be, it's really sad. Hopefully McGreevy and his family can find some peace now that the truth is out.

As far as people judging and callling him names well I'll just refer to the old say....those that live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones.

It took a lot of courage for him to admit publicly what he did was wrong (very wrong). But he's not the only politician in public office who has cheated on his wife with someone working “under him”("I did not have sexual relations with that woman"). Maybe that he did it with another man is what makes it more intolerable for some people. :scratchin

I know the news is not very old, but has there been any major cry for an immediate resignation by his constituents?
