Nick hotel-too expensive!

yes - BC/YC is expensive

but US/IOA was running a special stay 3 nights and you get a good price.

$169 per night Royal Pacific.

at US you get to use all their pools.

BC/YC is much more expensive. My kids loved Hard Rock but liked the Nick Hotel pools better. They also loved the "nick" games and activities. Look, we always stay at the GF and HRH. Nick Hotel is not either of them. But the kids have a ball, they are entertained and after our experience at TL (kids getting knocked down and scraped up in wave pool) even DH figures its better to spend the money on two nights at the Nick at the end of the trip than do a lot of water park days.

Its not the Ritz but if you are looking for a fun place for kids - this is it. I wouldn't stay more than 2 or 3 nights but younger kids can have a lot of fun in that time.

I have also booked the Nick hotel for Oct/Nov05. I have read so many reviews on this hotel, I feel like I'm starting to be an expert! My DH thinks I've gone nuts! Anyway, I have to say, that most of the reviews are good reviews and the bad ones are more related to (1) the cost of the new Nick compared to the old Holiday Inn (2) the noice level, kids everywhere, "amusement park" atmosphere, etc. (3) the food is bad. Current reviews, since the renovation/construction is complete, people are constantly posting reviews that say "my kids loved it", but I...... I tend to doubt that my kids or anyone else's will be disapointed if they love Nickolodeon and water! Personally, I was more concerned with the cleanliness issue, when I heard from a friend about a past "bed bug" problem. Again, I went searching for these reveiws, posted on this board, etc... The current reviews, though, of this hotel always mention the cleanliness of the rooms-about how good it is. Well, I've just decided that it will probably be fine, and we're not eating the food! (those reviews seem pretty unanimous!) :)

YES. That TL wave pool is very rough. I would not send my kids in it at all until they are much older.

I'm sure one night at Nick will be fine. DS can say he went there and I shouldn't have to hear about it again! I'd like to try HRH and Universal one time - maybe next trip (2-3 years from now).

I would probably pay the $166 for the room because if you factor in the water park and it does have 2 rooms it does seem ok for the price but what makes me mad is they told me you cannot cancel for any reason and if you want that option you have to pay $185. That seems ridiculous to me!! :confused3

I keep seeing this, but when I made my ressie for $162/night, they told me that I had 3 days prior to cancel. There was never a mention of a different price for that option. I used a AAA discount....

When you book with the AAA rate you have the normal cancellation policy. If you book with their "internet" prepaid rate, you cannot cancel.

I reserved thru the AAA rate- they charged my ccard for 1 nite and say I have until 72 hrs prior to cancel. If there is another hurricane (9/17-19) then hopefully I can reschedule!

If I could find a rate that was in the area of $160 to $180 then I might consider this place. I agree with yo about not going to the water parks and such.. .but I just can't spend $225 a night. My DS is 5 will be 6. Maybe when he gets a little older I will feel it's worth the expense.

The qoute I got through AAA is $166. I could cancel up to 3 days prior to arrival. I qouted 12/4 for one night.

Although, for a SpongeBob room it is $186 - that we will not do. Jimmy Neutron or someone else is fine.

Again, remember that I believe these rooms have a kitchen (no stove, but a micro), 2 bedrooms and a living room. Sounds like they are a pretty nice size. Living in NYC and having stayed in some very small rooms for $200+, I don't think it's too crazy to splurge for the one night.

Of course, if I didn't have the $$, we wouldn't do it. Whether or not it is too expensive is a person by person decision.

Good luck all! It would be great if the prices went down!

The great thing is that even after you check out (at 11:00), you can stay and enjoy the pools and entertainment all day. I guess we will have to change into our dry clothes in the bathrooms, maybe they have a pool house. So theoretically you could arrive early, enjoy the entertainment and pools before you check in (4:00- I inquired about using the pools before check-in and they said it was OK), spend the night and stay all day the next day-like two days for the price of one night. I am hoping that we will be water logged enough to last until next spring!

I did book through Holiday Inn directly using the AAA rate, not online. So why would anyone book online when you can't cancel it?

I booked online and think I got a bit misguided by the system! I put in for their "best rate" and got the prepaid rate. I thought that was good and booked it. After the fact, I realized that they had a AAA rate, the computer did not show the AAA rate as one of the best rates-it showed their internet rate and regular rates. I think this was a bit sneaky, as it should show all their rates, like most hotel sites-usually they will show AAA rates, military rates, etc.... Anyway, the prepaid internet rate and the AAA rate are the same, the only difference is the fact that you prepay and the cancellation policy. They would not let me change to AAA after I booked this way. I think they don't have a very good reservation system online in this regard, but I am not too worried for myself, as we are not planning on canceling-if something really bad happens, I also have a cruise booked, airline tickets, etc... that are pretty much non-refundable, as well, so we will go no matter what! I have decided this was a learning experience! Now I check the rates with AAA and without and read the fine print! :)

I considered this hotel before they became Nick and ironically while they think they can charge more, I won't stay there because of the change. I hate the vast majority of the shows on Nickelodeon and figure THEY should pay ME more for having to put up with Spongebob!

Besides, we have stayed at Vistana, just walking in off the street for $139 a night. We got two bedrooms with a jacquzzi in the master, a living room, dining room and full kitchen not to mention 7 pools, two kid playgrounds and beautiful grounds. Give me that any day of the week!

I agree, if you don't like Nick, it makes no sense at all to pay even the discounted price of $162/night. You could get a really nice room at WDW, (if that's where you are headed) or where you are staying. I am going totally for the Nick theme and water park atmosphere, both of which will send my DS5 and DS7 into heavenly, soaking wet, slimed bliss.

Us too, I think you really only go here for the kids. I don't know many adults who would visit without kids. Although, there may be some :confused3

We will do the one night, pay the high price, because the kids want to try it out. I'll be reminding them of that while I take my time and snack and shop around Epcot!

Actually, I like the water slides myself.

The Vistana above sounds great too. I'd love more detail, especially how you got that great rate if you wouldn't mind sending me a PM. Thanks!!

We are watching the rates and reviews. Although we will have our pop up camper (staying at FW), DH thinks it would be fun to stay here for a night, for the kids. DS saw the ad in his nick jr magazine (free from preschool) and on tv and has been bugging us. I've already told him no, and reminded him about the disney water parks, so he's not upset, but it would be fun to surprise him.

For now, $165 is just too much to spend with what I've heard about it.

Don't forget though its like getting two days at a waterpark. Plus you get the free entertainment. Its really a lot of fun for kids.

I'm still looking forward to my trip in two weeks- it's not for me- my DD chose this trip instead of having a birthday party. It'll cost the same- but it will be a family memory. They love Nick and since we have a leftover day pass for Seaworld we're going to have a nice weekend trip. While I know it will be overpriced- it's just for two nites and because it's sept -the Monday morning we also get the free Character breakfast. I also love the idea of having more than one tv in the kidsuite! This trip is purely for the kids- just hope DH & I can relax at the pool!

Sounds like we will be there almost at the same time-we will be there Sept 23, checking out on Sunday (but hanging around until about 4-5:00 to get our money's worth!!). We recently moved to Savannah, an easy driving distance to Orlando, so I am using the same logic for a long weekend WDW trip in Feb. DS5 and my birthdays are in January, and DS7's is on St. Pat's day. The expense (and wayyyyy too much hassle) of two kids birthday parties more than pays for a nice vacation at WDW. I'm not really counting on a lot of rest at the pools-it would be nice, but it looks like it will be a lot of work to keep my eyes on them.

I booked the cheapest room-kingsize bed w/sofabed. I wonder if they ever do a free upgrade?? I will definitely ask at check-in.
