Next DVC project?

...Also think the remaining garden wing at the Contemporary is on the chopping block. Probably all studios.

If they take it down and try to duplicate Bay Lake Tower, I'm not sure the support is there for a tower. But if they just gut the wing and convert like the long houses at the Polynesian, it might work.

I heard they really wanted to put up another tower but like you said the support is just not there. Too marshy. Conversion to all studios like the Poly seems likely.

I used to think a 5th park would be awesome....but now I think it's a terrible idea. There is SOOOO much wasted space in each park....but especially AK and HS. As it is, those parks are half day parks. I'm looking forward to the creation of the Star Wars...whatever they call it in HS and Avatar land in AK. I'll admit, I've come around a bit on AK then my first visit...but how long after opening did it take to get any significant attractions? Even Epcot could use a few more solid attractions.

Personally I love Disneyland and CA parks. They offer so much more bang for the buck. Space is limited out there, so they have so many more attractions per park.

I wouldn't be opposed to an addition to BLT with the other garden wing, or extra studios...Poly had me very excited to be only studios (as that's typically what we do). I'm very curious as to what they would do with VWL with less than 30 years left, who would be willing to shell out that price for that little time left.

Yeah, maybe that's it. It's been a long time since I heard about it. The same person who told me about the island also told me about VGF coming (and this was several years ago). Bet somebody is sitting on plans / ideas for 20-25 years down the road. Another park would be great but we gotta get past Avatar Land opening first.

Discovery Island would be an expensive build - there isn't the sewage, electricity, water, etc. run to that island to support any more than what was there - a few hundred guests visiting a zoo type thing - and its been closed for almost 30 years so I suspect what infrastructure is there is in less than great shape (Discovery Island was a really cool place though, I went there once when it was opened).

On the other hand, if the Poly bungalows do well, I could see an very upscale DVC bungalow community built on Discovery Island. Something like treehouse villas or Poly bungalows - individual stand alone units - not too many of them so you don't need a huge support infrastructure. High point requirements, private and out of the way. With Disney keeping some of them as cash units for VIP guests who need privacy.

We would love to see more attractions at both HS & Epcot. But we are beyond the kiddie ride stuff. We like full action rides like coasters…I guess each park could use more of both. The coolest thing about the CA parks (and Disneyland Paris for that matter) is that the parks are so close to each other. There is no time wasted transfering from park to park. It would be cool if they ever added another park to see it within walking distance to HS or Epcot.

That would be cool. Private lounge in the center of the island.

If Disney is going to add rooms to existing property to save money I wish they would take the MAGNOLIA BEND MANSIONS at Port Orleans and make them all DVC with studios 1 and 2 bedroom and GV. This is a beautiful area with 2 pools and parking for each mansion. These could work well with DVC. JMO . Maybe Disney could come back down to earth a little with their pricing.

My money is on FW...well not really, since I don't think we'd add on there...or would we? Hmmmmmmmmm.

What about that space between the World Showcase and Epcot Center Dr, to the ENE. Seems like there is plenty of space there for another International Gateway East entrance leading to a unique property; perhaps something that reflects the one or more of the countries of the WS? Looks like there is plenty of space.

Can anyone see a resort at one of the water parks?

A California Coastal resort was long rumored for Blizzard Beach. From what I read, sections of the resort would be themed to different SoCal beaches.

Somewhere out on the internet there is a map of the land left that is actually buildable - due to water tables and the fact that this is basically a swamp - most of the remaining land at WDW won't support large structures - like hotels or a fifth gate.

A fifth gate is very very unlikely. The point of extra gates is to capture additional vacation days on the part of guests. But, US vacations are already short and getting shorter:

The U.S. Travel Association, which has been gathering data on American vacations for decades, has seen the length of vacations steadily decline, even as people take them more frequently. In 1975, the association reports, vacations lasted on average more than a week. By 1985, the average vacation had shrunk to 5.4 days, and by 2010, according to the group's latest data, the average stood at 3.8 days

If the average vacation is under four days, having more than four parks doesn't really make much sense. There might be a reason to do this for the international segment---they tend to visit longer, because flying to the US is expensive and painful---but we'll see.

Instead, it would be better to support growth by building capacity in the existing parks, and that's what Disney is doing, with New Fantasyland, the Pandoraverse, and whatever ends up happening at Studios between one or more of Star Wars, Cars, and Pixar.

But we are beyond the kiddie ride stuff. We like full action rides like coasters…
You should start visiting Sea World and Universal. Between those three parks there are easily four or five world class roller coasters.

They'd have to completely gut the entire building since the units back up to each other. No balconies/porches. Just an exterior walkway.

Isn't that where the Princess Rooms are? I don't see that happening.

If they can sell at the current prices, they are not going down. Initial buy in prices reflect construction costs, I don't see where construction costs at a moderate would be less. Maybe less points for room nights.

They can't really back down on pricing per point without de valuing the product.
Why spend 180(?) for poly if you could pay 125 for PO and stay at the poly?
eleven-schmeven..(?) People would keep their money.

They could and would have a lower points requirement for the stays......

They do it all the time with incentives but they won't decrease the base price. It's the same way many stores use the "sale" process. They don't care about value though, only perceived value at it relates to sales.

True. Unfortunately at Disney almost all value is perceived.

We were visiting in Dec...stayed at BLT. We visited the DVC table at WL to talk about upcoming plans. When I mentioned the possibility of some of the rooms at WL being converted to DVC, he said he didn't see that happening but that there is a large tract of land that is between the resort and campgrounds that could possibly be utilized. He also asked if I got my info from the DIS which he follows :goodvibes
