If this happens, perhaps it will put a little, probably very little, pressure on Disney to update Epcot.

"A company named Avatron USA has filed plans for Avatron Smart Park, a new theme park concept that would revolve around technology and occupy a 700-plus acre development in the Emerson and Cartersville area, near Atlanta, Georgia. This proposed park has been pitched in official documents as a 'totally immersive, technology-driven theme park drawing on the expertise of Hollywood’s leading visual effects professionals.'

In addition to the new theme park, this new planned development area will include two hotels, a retail shopping area and a music performance venue. The Avatron website outlines planned themed areas within the park, including zones labeled as New Earth, Holoverse and Dino-Time."

Doubtful that puts any pressure on epcot because it's size and the fact that it won't bring in nearly amount of people that epcot will. Half of these parks never make it past planning stage anyways.

Nice to catch up on everything after being gone for a bit. Life has a funny way of keeping you busy, and before you know it you haven't stopped by to see your wonderful DIS family. I should have some more history backgrounds to share in my other thread pretty soon. I have some exciting stuff including the rest of Tomorrowland, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain and even the Backlot Tour. Anyway though I come sharing some news. The Jerry Rees project is still on track ......for now, but don't be surprised if this just vanished one day. I certainly wont be. A good friend of mine refuses to tell me ANYTHING about the project other that it is real...sometimes I wonder if he even knows ;). I wouldn't expect a ride, but I wouldn't expect anything lackluster either. This is Jerry Rees we are talking about. Maybe when they get rolling on all the big stuff for the park with a soon to be new name, they can start the work on Epcot....one day perhaps. Oh Disneyland Paris was the other thing. Its amazing to see the progress already being made around the resort. Clean up is taking place EVERYWHERE and it is very noticeable. Sadly it is going to take a good while to reverse the years of neglect the resort has seen. But exciting times are ahead for BOTH parks as we move towards the 25th. Might be worth traveling over there sometimes in the 2017-18 region.

Rumor has it selfie sticks have been banned from walt Disney world attractions. CMs are trained to look for them and tell guests they need to be stored away on rides. I for one am happy to hear this.
Not completely related to the discussion, but those have got to be the dumbest invention I've ever seen. Why not ask someone else to hold the camera? The whole point of selfies is to be spontaneous, and capture moments in a casual fashion. The selfie stick requires lots of work, and defeats the intention and spirit of selfies. Rant done.

Bless. Hopefully that rumor is true. Selfie sticks are just as conflictive as those iPads you see in the air throughout the parades and shows.

I'm not so against selfie sticks, but I could see where they are a hazard on theme park rides....especially something like a roller coaster or other fast moving ride. Some dimwit gets his arm ripped off because he's extending his camera outside the range of vehicle.

I have to say I find those people that videotape shows with their ipads much more obnoxious. Yes, this is what I wanted to do, watch these fireworks through your ipad, thanks.

Why do people feel the need to record fireworks anyway? A few clips, sure, I understand that. The whole thing? What? It's going to turn out horrible anyway. Then the other question I always ask. Who watches their terrible recording when they get home? Just look it up on YouTube...

I've recorded the fireworks and other nighttime shows myself....but with a videocamera with a small screen, which I hold slightly above me and tilt the screen downward so as not to disrupt others views.

Interesting. Do you actually watch it later? I mean I guess for the sake of the audio, but you can find pretty great versions on YouTube.

Yes, we've watched it many times as part of our trip videos. They're may be higher quality versions out there, but they aren't from "our" trip.

(I admit I don't record them anymore. We have enough versions. If they come up with a new show I'll probably tape it again.)

You're on the right track with the answer to this. The real purpose of a selfie stick is NOT to capture a spontaneous moment. If used properly, you can create a great self photo. Granted, it's probably not needed in a place as crowded as WDW but it is good if there is no one else around to take the picture for you.

I'm borrowing a picture from another DISer here:

It was taken using a selfie stick. But can you tell which person is holding it?

My guess... Girl left hand. Selfie cameras aren't for shots like that though. They're typically lower resolution/low aperture cameras. The quality of the above photo would be significantly better had they used the camera designed for photo taking on a grander scale.

I had the pleasure of standing behind a woman on Mainstreet recording Wishes in its entirety... with her flash ON the entire time. This lit up everyone standing around her and completely ruined the show for anyone nearby. Multiple people asked her to turn the flash off (at first politely... after that, not so much), but she brushed off each and every request with ease and could have cared less that she was ruining the experience for countless other people. My only hope is that all of the people around her calling her a moron was perfectly recorded for her family to hear when they finally decide to sit down and watch the tape.

I had someone squeeze in behind me to video Wishes once with their light on. We were all squeezed in so tight his camera was actually right next to my face. I just kept putting my hand up in front of it. It took several tries before he finally gave up and backed off.

The problem with someone unknowledgeable enough to shoot Wishes with a flash is that they likely don't know how to turn the flash off.
