News Round Up 2016

I was kind of hoping Chris Pratt would take on Indy in a reboot, but I guess Harrison Ford is going to do a pass-the-torch kind of film, similar to SW Ep:7. No harm in that. I doubt Ford is going to be swinging from vines or fist-fighting Nazis, so it shouldn't be too outlandish.

As much as I like Indiana Jones -- and I do, a lot -- I have trouble seeing it encompass an entire "land". As a standalone ride, yes, bring it on.

From what I have heard Indiana Jones stunt show will be leaving no matter what.

Sorry if I missed this, but is there an estimated timeline for the loss of the Indy show?

IMO an Indiana Jones area is a great idea. It is a movie series that does work in several generations, with the generation that enjoys it the most having kids now. The new movie could be just like the latest Star Wars, a movie that will grab more fans of the younger generation while still keeping it's current fan base. And think about how, if done right, it could be a land that really is immerse. I think this is something Disney wants to do, cause there is a lot of potential here, but there has to be the money to do it right and not a quick one like Toy Story Land. I could just see it being a land like Pandora and Star Wars, where you are thrown into the movie like few others (Harry Potter like as well). That to me will draw people in even for those that don't enjoy the movie franchise. I think about the people I see online talking about how they weren't thrilled about Avatar the movie but can't wait for Pandora. Few have seen Song of the South, but the masses love Splash Mountain.

Wdwmagic is reporting that TSMM will have a delayed opening as they continue to integrate the third track after yesterday's one day refurb closure.

I think it mainly comes down to supporting the app long term. Iphone apps are painless because you already know the device types and usually only have to update them when the OS gets a major update.

Then if you look at the Android phones you've got countless companies making phones of all different sizes, speeds and quality. It gets pretty ugly trying to validate things work on all the devices.

It really doesn't matter what size/speed/quality a phone is. You simply design it for the version(s) of android you want to support. Using that argument would be like saying it is hard to make a windows app because of all the different types of windows machines out there. Nobody builds an app with a specific machine in mind - they build it with a specific OS in mind.

For example, the latest version of Android is marshmallow. If you make an app that works with marshmallow, then it will work on every phone that has marshmallow. It's that simple. And it is the same on the iOS side.

Your also forgetting that there are different sizes and capabilities in the apple ecosystem as well. The 6, 6s, 5, 5s,etc....

My point earlier though is in regards to apps that really should be able to run on *anything* based on their simplicity.

2 years ago Little Mermaid came back to theaters and we decided to take our daughter as her first movie. She was 3 at the time. They heavily advertised an app that would allow the lyrics to show up to all the songs, answer questions about the movie, etc... As in, there were actually segments in the movie where things paused so the audience could interact on their device. The problem was, it was for Ipads only. Not Iphones. Ipads. Considering I own a pile of kindles and yet another pile of android based tablets, it was frustrating to realize I had nothing that was compatible with this app. And there was no reason not to port it. We aren't talking some technical achievement here. We are talking about a very basic app that just displays lyrics, facts, and a few other things during a movie. Not only should it have supported other tablets, it should have supported iphones and android phones as well. Otherwise, why integrate something like that into a theater showing to the point that it is disruptive for every family in the audience that doesn't own an iPad. Anyways, sorry to derail, I just see a trend with them when it comes to their companion apps that tends to be frustrating.

In this case, I can thank them I suppose for making it real easy for me to turn down their $200 box of ghost leftovers.

This is where I'm at. I recently switched back to Android from Windows after 3+ years. I had gotten used to knowing that I wasn't going to have every app 1st party, and I was perfectly okay with that. If someone out there can build and better Instagram for Windows (and continue to support it) than Instagram can, let this developer have my money.

Then I switch to Android, and less than a week later, I'm shut out of a program because I didn't switch to Apple? That's completely ridiculous and there's no reason for it.

But I did get a coworker to sign up for it, so come the end of the month I can still see what kind of items the boxes have

You must have a silver tongue if you convinced someone to shell out that much cash for something so ambiguous! hehe. Would love to hear about the packages when they come in though. The mansion is my wife's favorite ride, bar none, so I was tempted to do it just for her... but then realized there were so many other things I could do for her that weren't as... risky.

It didn't take too much, we are cast and suckers for anything marked "collectible" or "limited edition", especially for the Haunted Mansion

What I find weird is that Disney is announcing that all these things are opening April 22nd, but what they aren't announcing is extended park hours. The park calendar still shows AK closing at 6:30 PM on April 22nd. Sunset is at 8 PM, so I'm thinking that that time is going to change.

I also wonder how they will handle summertime when it is light until 9:30 PM. Do they keep DAK open until midnight? Without Avatar open, I foresee problems keeping people in the park so late. Do we start seeing an actual thinning of crowds at DAK, where there are less people during the day because they come over later in the day to see the nighttime offerings.

I've heard AK will be open until 11:30 some nights.

I think people will still split the day.
And...
If word got around that DAK was a ghost town in the morning, people would come just to have the park "to themselves".

Adoption rates of the new Android OS rates are low and there's many reasons for it, mainly due to fragmentation and carrier restrictions. I don't want to veer things too off topic but there are many discussions online about this. That's one of several reasons why iOS has more robust app choices.
