News Round Up 2016

9 o'clock is frankly unacceptable. It's Orlando, for gods sake. Why have a "pool bar" that is open hours after the pool?

Honestly...it should be an hour or two after last park close...that is more than a fair compromise.

But as an aside - are those hours set? And are they universal?

They shutting the pool at the G-Flo down at 9? How about stormalong?

...you see the roadmap I'm following here...

This is silly to me. 9 o'clock is way too early to shut down the pool area. I don't have any issue with adding gates to the pools at all. If it helps save just a single child's life it was worth it. But shutting down at 9 is ridiculous. That almost sounds like WDW's way of saying we prefer you to be in our parks spending money instead of taking advantage of our pools at night (which are included in the cost).

My guess is the pool gates have a lot to do with liability and insurance rates.

The other legitimate angles:
Save on employee costs and force people out of the hotel to higher gift shop concentrated areas...as always

Gee...they've never done that before...

Like how they didn't carry any cable channels in the rooms till about 2005?
Maybe they thought cable was an "unproven technology"?

It's not like they have a retail complex
Opening or anything...::yes::

+100...Those pools should all be open til midnight. I mean, that's pretty much the minimum at all other hotel/condo sites in Orlando...

I think so but even then those rules aren't enforced. Most quiet pools don't have fences yet.

If they do fence all
Pools...and decide "9 is enough"...then All pools will be shutdown.

The reality is that they can post all the "swim at your own risk" signs they want. But they're a corporate monolith and they're gonna get sued every single time. Reality.

I'll agree with you here. I don't care about the gates but closing at 9PM? I can see closing at say 11 but 9 is too early.

I'm right here with both of you on the 9 o'clock closing of the pool areas - I missed that part. Part of me wonders if that's a seasonal thing? It's been rather chilly down here - like 50's or even lower. They've got to have a different plan for when it starts staying hot at night though - we HAVE to have the option for a dip in the pool after a day in that sweltering heat and humidity! I can't imagine that getting taken away.

I wonder if it's survey based. I'm sure the survey question was, "would you rather have a clean resort, or pools open late?"

I can see it being a seasonal thing. Marathon weekend 2015 a lifeguard sat out at the POR hot tub after the pool closed to let people mainly runners use it. Like I said though that was only for marathon weekend. The quiet pools at POR are not fenced and are supposed to close at 11 but I'm pretty sure people were in me past that. This will be an interesting issue to watch.

Ever since I've been going to Disney, the pool signs I have seen stated the pools close @ 9PM. I have never had any issue swimming after 9PM. Most of this experience is at OKW but I have had no issues at BLT, AKL, & BWV. I haven't tried in the last 3 years but I'll reserve my frustration until somebody actually enforces it on me.

I take that was non gated pools though? Most main pools are now gated and times are enforced.

Finding Dory teaser and Martin Sheen is added to the cast.

I am very excited for this movie!

Anything is possible, but I'm in the camp of it being seasonal with the closing time.
I can also see that being one of the value added perks based on the level of resort. "stay at a moderate, they keeps the pools open to 1am!"

BLT was the only one with a gate but I did see people in the after 9PM. The article posted looked like it was speaking specifically about AoA. I don't know. 9PM is way to early to close a pool. I'm curious to see how this will chake out on our May trip to SSR.

We are going on February 21st for a last minute trip. Split stay, All-star movie and saratoga. Be curious to see what the deal is at both places.

Swimming at midnight is really nice even in September/October. I'm fine if their closed at 1am or something, but it's a major loss if you can't end your day with a nice relaxing swim. Not like I can be in their parks at that time anyway.

There are some legal requirements for gates on pools, but that may be for new construction or something.
