News Round Up 2016

I don't drink, but every time I walk past Mexico I think how fun it would be to climb up there.....good for that guy!

Kinda surprised Disney hasn't tuned that into an afterhours event or something ... I bet people would pay decent$ to get to climb up the pyramid

Don't forget the one at Coronado Springs as well!

Despicable Me 3 trailer

I honestly had no idea they were making another one. Is it necessary?

My question is: why do people still watch these? Or the Ice Age franchise... Or Transformers... And Fast and Furious... Anyways, I digress. Sorry fans.

I might fall for that one...but then as soon as i see the Elsa meet and greet next door I would demand a refund ;)

They do...which is why I plead for disney to not make this kinda crap...like cars 3 or frozen 2

Well despicable me is more popular than ice age at this point. I don't understand for the life of me why they are still making ice age movies. Despicable me is at least a decent movie.

Because even though the last one under performed, it still brought in about 200 million for the studio. I ran some numbers from box office mojo and estimated the marketing budget by multiplying the production budget by two.

This last one made significantly less. I hope that means they are done with them.

Profit is way off - studios don't get 100% of ticket sales...while you can estimate about 50% from domestic, foreign take tends to be lower (especially from Chinese sales)...So, Ice Age #5 was probably a break even movie, give or take $10M or so to the positive, since I don't think that movie spent $100M on P&A...

It is a South American hit - likely, if we get #6, it will be made completely for international sensibilities and may not even release in theaters in the US...

Probably. I'm seeing the same thing happening to Ice Age that happened with Shrek. The Shrek series had a new movie every 3 years. Last Shrek movie came out in 2010. This July a 5th film was announced for a 2019 release. I can see a studio sitting on a franchise for X number of years to let all of the turds of the series be forgotten, then bring it back for nostalgia sake.

I thought the reported numbers already handled all that, but in that case....I used an estimated 50% domestic profit and an estimated 33% worldwide profit for some new numbers. These numbers are also probably no where close to reality

That Collision Course "profit"...woof. Yeah, I'm not seeing another Ice Age movie happening any time soon.

But enough about the Ice Age talk. Back to Disney.

They are just trying to shoehorn food kiosks wherever they can huh?

Thinking the same thing. Who IS going to see ice age movies...I guess parents with no discerning taste other than wanting 90 minutes to kill. The last one did pretty bad. I know this is a Disney thread - but some of these other series are surprisingly good. As I said, the first Despicable Me is really excellent, and the second one, while not as good, still has it's charms, so I don't mind them continuing to make them as long as there's room in the well. (We recently watched Kung Fu Panda 3 and I am totally surprised at the level of quality they kept with that series. The first movie I wouldn't call great, but the quality has stayed high, and the animation is impressive, the third movie also tied back to the first one better than almost any threequel I've ever seen.)

Transformers movies I haven't needed a single one since the first one - but they keep making buckets of money for some reason. Fast & Furious movies are pretty fun, so they can keep cranking those out as far as I'm concerned, they're kind of like James Bond movies...
