News Round Up 2016

Just checked on the blog released yesterday again, and am beginning to believe that this new 13-month deal will NOT apply to renewals...most comments have to do with renewal, and recent renewals, and one person said they were told when they called in to renew, that it only applied to NEW APs. The Disney website still is saying expiration is on the anniversary of the renewal, and nothing about 13 months.

Anyone else have first hand experience or an official Disney reference?

Caribbean Beach resort DVC will be 4-5 stories and have a "top of the world" type lounge to watch illuminations from.

I thought there was a rumor that Illuminations was being replaced? Am I wrong, or are they just saying Illuminations as a placeholder until the new night time show is announced?

I could be wrong but I thought it was rumored to be a new version of Illiminations so might still have that name just with something other than "reflections of Earth" as the rest of the name.

Also, probably didn't want to raise questions if they worded it as "EPCOT fireworks show" so used Illuminations no matter what is happening

I assume you mean People Mover not CoP right?

I haven't been able to witness it in person but have watched on YouTube videos of people riding Space Mountain with the lights on and it looked much scarier as everything is so compact and it did feel like you had to duck to not get hit at points (obviously you don't really have to but it looked like that)
Years ago I took students on a Disney YES program for physics. At the end of the tour, before the park opened, they rode Space lights off and then lights on, to compare the experience. Not sure if they still do, but as adults they still talk about it.

Yes illuminations is supposed to be replaced eventually. It's unclear if it will be a new version of illuminations or a brand new show altogether.

Has there ever been another situation where Disney has gone to this length to prevent pictures?

Disney hasn't that I am aware of. But in the months before Kong opened at IoA they had security posted at the two side gates and they closed part of the Jurassic Park play area to prevent pictures from getting out. I also talked to one of the guards at IoA and he expressed a concern that guests would sneak around/through the gates to get a better look.

They changed the program up a bit. When my oldest daughter took the class a few years ago, she got to ride space mountain with the lights on and off. My son took the same class this year and they went behind the scenes for HM, rode Stitch, and watched Mickey's Philharmagic. He was pretty bummed about not riding space.

The email was sent to passholders about renewing for the extra month. I doubt they would send it to passholders if it didn't apply to them.....at least I hope!!

My expiration date is Oct 16, within the promotion dates, and I never got an email. I got a hard copy snail mail reminder to renew, but it didn't have anything about the 13 month deal.

But I now found on the website that the pull down option does say 13 months...so it has been confirmed for my dates anyway.

LOVED this! I don't usually watch videos of rides or shows because I want to experience it new. But, because this has different "moments" (and because I love Muppets), I watched. So cute - I can't wait to see it in person!
Yes I thought it looked great as well. Actual puppeteers and an actual interactive show. Disney entertainment did a great job here.

Just released Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men tell no tales trailer

Honestly, I'm a little excited for this. When I was much younger, myself and one of my friends were HUGE POTC movie fans. We played the game constantly, read all the books, and played with the toys, I even saw the second movie in theaters. I still love the first 3 movies (yes, I know the sequels are no where near as good as the first one, but I still like them) And I remember on my first trip to Disneyland in 2003, the first movie had just come out a few months earlier, so the line for the ride was always super long on that trip, and we unfortunately didn't get a change to go on it until 2011 and that was the trip that made me fall in love with the ride. Anyways, the fourth movie is really not good at all, and this movie has a high chance of being bad too, but I'm still holding out a little bit of hope that it may actually be a fun movie like the first one. I just realized this comment is way longer than it should be, oops.
