News Round Up 2016

I am with rteetz on this, something on the marvel deal has changed. With blatant signage now with Marvel on it. Something has changed. I hope this means more marvel soon.

especially as this coincides with the start of the new fiscal year for Disney, I'd be surprised if something didn't change contractually

Makes me much more confident in teh GotG in Epcot rumor now

I haven't decided if that makes me more confident in that or not. I was pretty confident in that before, but I'm almost wondering if they go back to the idea of putting a lot more Marvel in, and if that is the case I'm wondering if they may move it to DHS (would they really make an entire section of EPCOT Marvel?).

I don't think this means they can add even more marvel than before. I think this just means they can use the marvel name in the parks.

And this is an important element. Branding and brand recognition is a Big Deal.
Being able to use the Marvel title is a huge victory, and opens the door to an actual Marvel Land rather than a generic Super Hero Land in DCA

I guess I don't get the excitement...we are talking about Disney Springs which is not a theme park. Its no different than when they skinned the monorail with a Marvel movie and could only run it on the resort loop since that didn't go inside a theme park. They couldn't run it on the EPCOT loop since that track travels through part of EPCOT. Signage in Disney Springs doesn't mean anything has changed as that is an outdoor mall.

Security outside the walls of Pandora, looks like they are getting serious about no photos.

I'm wondering if the renaming at Disney Springs has anything to do with this part of the contract.

It's Disney still mostly. It's obvious they changed a lot on the 1st and staff is visibly confused. Over staffed in some areas understaffed in others with staff members discussing assignments (new member comes up, hands ticket to departing member, brief discussion about it not being normal rotation). But seriously the trash can situation at MK on 1st and DHS/Epcot on 2nd was noticeably worse than I have ever seen with trash on top of and on ground near multiple cans and people looking around for alternates trying not to make it worse with no options. I'll see what happens over next 5 days. Hopefully it gets better quickly.

I suggest you take pictures and send it up to customer service. Make people aware of the issue. That is unacceptable in my view...when garbage is a problem at WDW, WDW is basically like everywhere else.

That's true, I'm going on the assumption that the rumor you had posted a while ago is coming along as true (that Universal is switching to DC and giving up Marvel). I'm wondering if this is an indication of how talks are going. Or, is it Disney pushing their limits? I don't know, very interesting to see though.

I think this is a wait and see, being allowed to market Marvel is a huge win for Disney, I can't believe they would stop there. I think more is coming, just not sure of which or when

The marvel contract didn't have to change for GotG to be in Epcot.

They aren't covered by Universal's contract what-so-ever.
Yes and no, I have read the contract and can see both sides of the argument. Until it is built, I won't hold my breath, but the fact Disney is now more openly displaying the Marvel brand, makes me excited that some things may change more in the future.

I disagree, and go with what @rteetz has said, if they could do it all along, why didn't they when the store first opened? I will add that the skin on the monorail, also did not include any marvel marketing. Even the m&g done for GotG didn't market Marvel. Now they have the store blatently marketing, and posters for Dr. Strange with Marvel marketing as well. Seems to me there has been a shift.

The signage added the Marvel name. Before it was just superhero headquarters, now it's marvel superhero head quarters. The Marvel name is also on the doctor strange posters around the resort including inside the parks. Before you would not see the Marvel name anywhere including in Disney springs.

No, I don't think they would make an entire section of each park Marvel. I do think that some are missing the tie in with GotG and the energy stone from the current Avenger's tie in. I also think that if there is a change, that you will see some form of Marvel in most of the parks, except probably AK.

The monorail wrap did not have Marvel branding on it at all.

Adding the Marvel branding does indicate that something has changed.
iii. East or West of The Mississippi – permitted uses shall be limited to the use of specific Marvel characters and Marvel may not permit a licensee to use the name “Marvel” as part of the attraction name or marketing.

This part of the original contract prohibits using the Marvel name. Either the contract has been amended or Disney just doesn't care.
