News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

Has anyone heard anything else about the new runDisney Kids Adventures? Just curious to see when/what it is

Nothing I can see. The last thing I saw was it was still in the works but I just went back to the rD site and now I don't see it anywhere. I swore it was under the weekend overview but now I don't see it. I am hoping to sign our son up when registrations opens on the 27th so I hope it is announced before then.

It's still listed here (link) in the non race specific area. I don't remember any reference to it on the race specific pages other than the image of Captain Hook on Wine and Dine with "Kids" on it. I anticipate that it will be much much closer to race day before we hear anything specific on this as it seems like it's still in the infant stages of hashing out what they want to do.

Thanks. I was able to find the announcement but not that page. Sometimes my search skills let me down. Now that we have to reserve our parks in advance I hope they announce what the kids races will be early so we know what day and where they will be. I don't want them to eat into one of the two park days we are planning this trip. Keeping them on Saturday for MW is my hope since we are heading out to the Crayola Experience and then offsite dinner with family that day.

I unfortunately don’t think there will be kids races for W&D or MW. With the CDC calling for 6 months of research data before vaccinating kids under 12, I’m not sure Disney would feel comfortable having that many young kids together. I truly hope I’m wrong on this and kids can do the races.

10K has some availability. if anyone was wanting that, go quick!

I still can't believe these races are open (excluding the 10K which seems to just come and go a bit). I'm feeling so much better about getting registered for MW. Still can't completely get rid of my anxiety about it, but I think this is really encouraging. Especially because my recollection is that W&D weekend is usually very popular and has sold out quickly in the past.

Going back through the major three (MW, Princess, and WD), the longest the 5k lasted in 2020 was 97 min (Princess). In 2019, the longest the 5k lasted was 10 hours (Princess). I did do W&D 2017, and the 5k took five weeks to sell out. For the 5k to still remain three days after opening of registration is good news. Whether W&D sell out rates is completely predictive of MW or Princess remains to be seen, but I'm feeling pretty good.

My suspicion is the late announcement of W&D had an impact as folks probably already decided to “punt” and make other plans (MW or the like). Food and wine crowds probably took a lot of the rooms also making it somewhat difficult if people changed their minds now that they know. The later I think is weak as I’m sure there are some rooms out there and always off site availability, but may play into it. All speculation on my part of course.

Anyone seen any numbers on the number of international vs. US runners for the Disney races (esp. Marathon Weekend)? Given how slow vaccinations are going outside the US, I'd be curious how much that's factoring into the surprisingly soft demand for W&D. But then, I suspected this might happen, based on how demand for runDisney events was already beginning to soften pre-pandemic. The fact the events came back with yet another price increase isn't helping either. Either way, I'm feeling very certain I'll get a Dopey bib in two weeks without much worry.

This was my thought too, we’re looking at Jan at the earliest for kids to be vaccinated which is insane to me

Marathon weekend in-person and virtual event information has been posted just in the nick of time for Club runDisney registration tomorrow!

Loving the artwork for our event host characters and looking very sparkly! You can check out the graphics shown on the Marathon Weekend Virtual Events page.

Getting excited for what the medals will look like!MarathonWeekend2022_Designs.jpg

Ha! I was going to ask if folks miss Minnie as 10k character. 🙂

It’s not that I miss Minnie so much. I think it‘s great that she’s been promoted to equal billing with Mickey for the marathon. There are just SO MANY better choices for the 10k that would connect better with people’s Disney memories than Oswald who really isn’t much more than a curiosity or footnote in the Disney history book.

Yeah, I don't care for Oswald. I like that they announced medals before registration. If trying to decide between 5k and 10k, I would choose whichever didn't have Oswald.

Now if only we knew what the Springtime Surprise is going to be. I can only do 1 runDisney every year or 2, and it would be nice to know the race distances/days for each race.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t it been Pluto 5k, Oswald 10k, Donald half, Mickey full for a few years now? Or is this just the 2nd or 3rd year for Oswald?

Oswald was introduced as a race host in the 2019 MW 5k. In 2020 he was “promoted” to the 10k where he remained for the 2021 virtual series. So definitely a recent addition to the series.
