News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

Charities - does anyone know if the charity they signed with has gotten their contracts signed?

Got an email from Give Kids the World late yesterday afternoon saying they finally got their contract signed and sending out the registration links for charity registration for the three race weekends. Sounds like it's taken longer than expected but finally some movement happening. I would expect to see more charities go "official" this weekend or early next week.

I would also say that if you haven't heard by Tuesday when registration opens, you can go and register and then offer to run for the charity at a lower fundraising level. Most have a "bring your own bib" level. That would take the stress off of you about having a bib too.

Didn't Marathon finishers used to get Mickey ears that said marathon or something on them? is that not a thing anymore?

I don't recall anything like that but it might have been true at some point. I did the full in 2011 and a few halves and don't ever recall getting ears. We did get free admission into a park on the Monday after race weekend in 2011 but that seems to have been a one off.

I do think there are RunDisney ears available to purchase but someone will have to say for sure.

They did ears for three years. The first was a surprise in 2018 for the anniversary and then they had them in '19 and '20 as well. Possible they are just not listed again. Or maybe they were only meant to be a one time thing, but we're really popular.

Here are some pictures. No clue if they'll do it again. But in 2020, I do believe it was advertised as a perk in a section on runDisney much like your screen capture. So maybe not anymore? But no way to say definitively.

They did it again in 2020:

I just missed the ears! Last did the full in 2017 (I don't recall getting anything special, beyond the shirt and medal). Had a kid in 2018, did the half and 10k in 2019, and switched our January 2020 trip to late January to celebrate my kid's birthday. I've got reservations for Springtime Surprise weekend for 2022. Eagerly awaiting info on that one.

In 2013, we got WDW marathon shoelaces, and I got a drawstring backpack for the Princess half in 2011, so maybe some years they just throw in extra surprises.

It’s very interesting that both Wine & Dine and Marathon Weekend registrations were relatively easy… I wonder if it’s a better queue system or just leftover Covid “weirdness” …. it will be intriguing to track
I think it is more about the leftover Covid weirdness. When restrictions began to drop and things opened up, I think many (including me) assumed demand would far exceed supply - especially if Disney limited the number of race registrations. But judging recent comments across multiple media and social media sites, with variants and case numbers rising there is a chunk of people still cautious and pessimistic about the future. I think demand was much lower than anticipated making the registration process much smoother.

anyone having any concerns about the race weekends now that mask requirements are coming back? o_O someone talk me off the ledge and tell me these races are going to happen!
Indoor Mask requirements returning doesn’t phase me (in fact don't flame me but I feel they were dropped prematurely especially for guests under 12) I’d be more worried if there is another mutation worse than Delta that pops up and/or Princess registration gets pushed back

Experts are saying based on data from India and England Delta has a pretty fast peak and then resolution. It is expected to be done in the US by October. And mask policy is still just for indoors. Short of another new variant I think we should be ok for November. At least that is what I'm telling myself.

Good point... perhaps a modified expo?

I am waiting to hear about Springtime Surprise, hoping the surprise isn't that it will be virtual. I can get better prices if I don't plan a March trip, but I am waiting to see what to do.

Not really. I'm vaccinated and healthy so I'm not worried from a personal health point of view. Of course any mutation could change that.

At this point if masks indoors come back I'll just wear a mask indoors. There is really no reason to wear them outdoors but even if we have to wear them in to corrals and then remove them as we cross the start line, which is what a lot of the local races that came back last year did, it isn't really a functional change. Then again I never really had any issue with the masks during the pandemic.
