News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t it been Pluto 5k, Oswald 10k, Donald half, Mickey full for a few years now? Or is this just the 2nd or 3rd year for Oswald?

The 10k and Dopey both debuted the same year, 2014. There was big fanfare from rD about Minnie getting a race at the time (the Marathon had always been Mickey, the Half Donald and Goofy, well, Goofy; the 5k was much smaller and more of an afterthought). They used Minnie and the 10k in all kinds of promotional stuff.

It continued that way for 5 years, but starting in 2020 it seems rD began to believe that Minnie being “only” a 10k host was problematic optics so they bumped her into co-host of the Marathon. This seems to be verified by Daisy being added to Half Marathon theming this year. So Oswald appears to have a full-time race now.

Personally, it all seems really ham-handed and I thought it was more logical in the 2014-2018 races. I’m going to stop worrying about it though. This is just the way it’s going to be.

I miss Minnie, but I like how they are incorporating the 50th theme colors in the artwork.
They had Daisy Duck in 2021 too. I was happy to see that.

Okay so here me out instead of Minnie/Daisy accompanying their counterparts on the Full/Half what it they co-hosted the 10K vs Oswald (Ducks flames)

I wonder if the colors on the logos will be shirt colors as while I have no emotional attachment to oswald (hence getting refunded for 2021 vs doing the virtual) I like the shade of green in the art

im aiming for most random question of the week with this one (But it is a genuine question!)

Why on the images of the 2022 races is Donald running bare footed yet Daisy is seemingly wearing trainers? Just curious as to whether there is a background story to this?

He is still getting useto wearing shorts. Shoes were a bridge too far. ;)

This conversation is so enlightening! I can honestly say I never once looked at the characters on a race and read anything into the distances they were assigned. Like Minnie “only” having the 10k would have never seemed problematic to me. I also find it interesting how many people seem to dislike Oswald. He’s one of my husbands favorite characters because of his history. Now that someone said it, I do find it weird that Minnie and Daisy are running with their partners. I like the idea of teaming the 2 of them on their own race.

I'm interpreting their actions more than anything. I don’t think there was anything problematic about how the race themes came about but it seems rD or Disney felt they needed to bring Minnie and Daisy to “equal” footing with their male counterparts.

I think it sends a bad message about the value of finishing shorter races, but that has always been a problem that rD proliferates during their race weekends. Everyone has heard the “just” or “only” words bandied about freely and moves like this do nothing to indicate that will change.

Then again, maybe this was all about getting Oswald involved and I’ve got my tinfoil hat perfectly tuned to crazy conspiracist.

This is exactly how I feel. He represents the quintessential Disney history of triumph after failure, learning from your mistakes, keep moving forward. I think he seems "shoehorned" or out of place because (at least in the US parks) he doesn't appear in many places. Disney doesn't seem to have a strategy for Oswald outside his nostalgia factor, but I do think there is a contingent of die-hards who would love to see him incorporated more, like when they add a princess. I fully expected him to have a part or a cameo in MRR -- that's a miss imho. Disney just needs to decide if they're going to make Oswald happen or not. If they are, they need to do more and quit teasing those of us who love him!

I was just noticing yesterday that in the 50th promo photos of the characters Daisy is in golden heels but Donald is barefoot so you aren't the only one looking at their feet. Based on this, I'm guessing Donald never wears shoes but Daisy does. 🤷‍♀️44F2BF51-99EC-47D8-9EC9-708ACDA9722C.jpeg

Speaking of shoes, I wonder if New Balance is still a sponsor and if they will have specific WDW 50th Anniversary shoes or featured race shoes at the Marathon Weekend Expo?

New Balance and RunDisney ended their partnership several years ago. There haven’t been any new Disney-NB shoes since 2017 or so.

Charities - does anyone know if the charity they signed with has gotten their contracts signed? I'm starting to get worried about mine (Dragon Foundation) - last I heard was last week that they still haven't signed, and now we are 4 days from general registration and I'd really like to get my fundraising started and get me over 50% so I can hopefully get the bib registration at least within a day of general.

I heard other charities, that didn't initially get bibs and were disappointed were contacted by runDisney and given some - so it looks like they are giving more than the initial allotment they did 3 weeks ago, but to not have finished signing the contracts is surprising and a little worrying. Sorry, I'm not having a very good week with a lot of personal stress so I'm paranoid about everything right now.

Camaker, I am almost certain New Balance had a large Kiosk at the WDW Marathon Expo in 2019.
They had some cool black & white Disney themed designs as well.

I received an email late last night saying ACS is opening charity registration for Wine and Dine, Marathon Weekend, and Princess today. No specific time listed. My plan is to wait for general registration. FOMO is so real for me, but I'm hoping for positive results on Tuesday!
