Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

I found out yesterday that my mother and sisters are planning a small family shower for me. I'm really excited-I wasn't sure anyone was doing anything.

I'm home today. I threw up until around 11. I am so tired of being sick. But the main problem is ds11. He has been sick since Sat, and got worse all wkend. He wouldn't eat (and he LOVES to eat), and has a horrible cough. I took him to the dr today, and he has bronchitis (just had strep throat in Jan) and a really bad ear infection. Also, she said his chest was so tight she is worried about asthma. She gave him a shot (he was not happy!) and a breathing treatment, and I have 3 prescriptions being filled at the pharmacy around the corner from us. And it is 9 wks test week!

Aww.. baby pictures with bunnies and chicks?! That DOES sound adorable!

I'm excited I'll have Lucas for Father's Day. I'm trying to think up something nifty to do for Tom.

Totally jealous Friday was your last day of work, btw. I'm counting down until vacation and trying not to let it slip I'm not coming back!

I am so happy to not be working... and lucky that DH lets me!

The chicks and bunny photos were the cutest thing ever! You buy a package and you get to take photos once a month for the first year so at Christmas they do Christmas photos and for Mothers day you take a photo with the baby and same for Fathers day.

They had these sweet photos of a daddy wearing a sports jersey and then the baby wrapped in a matching one, would he like something like that? Robert is so hard to shop for as it is, having another gift giving occasion is not going to be good for me lol.

Love all the excitment around here!

My big ultrasound is March 27. And my assistant sent out an email to my entire library system to save the date for my work shower. It's going to be huge! We have 4 branches and over the 9 years I've been here, I've worked at 3 of them. It's gonna be great.

Looks like a few of us will be finding out around the same time!!!! So exciting.

I have 6 weeks til our big U/S date. I can't wait to find out what we're expecting. Hoping for one of each. But any two healthy babies will do just fine! :goodvibes

I am the exact same, I just want a healthy baby. We are due 2 days apart, when/how did you find out you were having twins? My mom keeps saying I am but I think I would know by now?

Have you had an ultrasound yet? I had one at 6w and they were able to tell me then that there was only one 1 baby. They had the ultrasound to hear the heartbeat. I would think if youve had an ultrasound at all they would be able to tell you if you were carrying multiples (and would tell you then).

I have had 3 ultra sounds. I am sure I would know but she always guesses right lol. I told her it is impossible but she just says nothing is impossible. I had a scan at 5 wks, 7 wks, and 10 wks, so I am sure it would be noticeable but she says sometimes they hide behind each other etc. No idea lol.

At my fist u/s (not quite 8 weeks) the doc couldn't get a good look. So she sent me for HCG blood draws to see if it looked like a viable pg. HCG numbers came back good.

The next week I had a little bit of spotting, went in and had another u/s, at almost 9 weeks and it was pretty clear there were 2 in there, we could just barely make out the flickering heartbeats. DH & I were in shock. Any thoughts of not telling friends & family til later went out the window, as we just couldn't *not* talk about it at that point.

If you've had any u/s done so far, they probably would have spotted if there were 2 in there. Once you see it, it's pretty hard to miss or mistake. Possible I guess if one is positioned behind the other, which may have been the case at my first u/s. Still not sure why she couldn't see at least 1.

I'm also much bigger than I would expect for 14 weeks pg. I pretty much moved to maternity gear at about 9 weeks. I think I look as big now at 14 weeks as I did when I had my son at 26 weeks. It is quite odd. But I haven't gained weight yet, it's just all moved around. I wore a size 18 pre-pregnancy, so not gaining weight yet is OK for me, I had plenty to go around. I figure it'll start soon enough. Nobody gets through a twin pregnancy with no weight gain.

Just checking in, my big U/S is Wednesday
Hoping and praying that things go well and the baby is healthy and doing well
We will find out what we are having if possible

I feel like crud today and my whole body aches
I think I am going to go home and lay down when I get home

Can't they hear 2 heartbeats?

They can, but it's very hard to tel if you are hearing 2 distinct heartbeats or catching the same one from different angles, unless they are very different rates. (Like one is 120-130 and the other is 160-something.)

My first pg, I was actually measuring large for dates at about 16-17 weeks, and was sent for an u/s to rule out a twin pregnancy at an imaging place that has a more hi-res u/s than the doc's office had. I was able to find out no twins, but I was having a boy just a little bit early because of that.

Well I don't think I am having twins but it does run in the family. I rented a doppler exactly like the ones they use in the office and I swear sometimes I hear two and that they sound different but I think it is just the same heartbeat but I can hear it in a different place. My mom has me all paranoid. I have gained 8 pounds and it is all in the stomach, no where else, so she says I am too big for 14 weeks, bleh, bleh, bleh. Way to make me feel fat lol!!

I guess there could still be a possibility for 2. I did hear at my first ultrasound the doctor tell me "There aren't multiples, your having 1". Twins run in my family as well. My cousin just had twins in January (on my dads side) and DHs aunts are both twins. At your next ultrasound im sure you'll find out for certain. Don't worry about the weight gain too much. I'm sure your doctor will let you know if you need to worry.:goodvibes Ive been eating so terribly. I never thought in a million years I would. All the bad stuff sounds good to me though! LOL. Im hoping for steady weight gain (and no stretch marks)-- but if i keep up this pace of eating what im eating..lol:scared:

I know exactly what you mean, I have had the worst cravings ever! I swore up and down that when I became pregnant I would eat SOOOO healthy and now it is like there is a mad person inside me that is always starving! I have actually done well today so I am really hoping my appetite slows down lol.

Ehhhh, don't listen to mom! ;) If you started out your pregnancy thin or normal weight (not overweight like me) it's normal to gain weight even in the first trimester. If you kept on this weight gain rate, you'd have only gained 24 pounds at the end-- way less than the 35 that is considered normal and healthy for most women with a singleton pregnancy. Even now, you have considerably more blood volume than you had pre-pregnancy, and that means extra weight.

And even though 35 lbs is considered average weight gain -- it's just that AVERAGE. Many women gain less & some gain considerably more, and it's all for a good cause. Plenty of time to shed any extra weight after the baby comes.

Wednesday!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I can't wait to hear.

Melissa, :woohoo: congrats on being a SAHM. It is wonderful, and I feel blessed everyday that we were able to do it.

As far as weight gain, it is gonna happen. I started my pregnancies on the heavier side too. With DS all my weight came in the last 6 weeks. I only gained 15lbs with him and ended up weighing a pound less after delivery.
So far with this pregnancy I am up a pound in 25 weeks. I am thrilled about it but I know it is going to sneak up in the end. I was very sick in the beginning months. If I remember Melissa, you have not had alot of M/S right?

I took a nap when my DS was nad I came back to 2 pages of chatting, I love it.

Sarah, big work showers are great. I worked for a bank 10 years before I had DS. They had a huge shower for us, DH could not believe when they called him to say bring your pick-up what we got for gifts. We had a family shower too, by the end I did not have to buy anything except cute clothes that caught my eye!

Well, I'm having 3 big showers, so I'm doing my best not to buy anything. I highly doubt we're going to need much of anything by the time the baby gets here.

My Dr. told me that stretch marks are inevitable if I've ever gotten one before. (I have)... so I just suck it up and take belly pictures with my shirts still on. :rotfl:
I've only gained 12lbs so far (7 of it was this last month :rolleyes1 ) and they're all over my belly. :upsidedow
Hopefully you can keep them at bay, though. I just didn't bother, knowing I already had some...

Oh..also wanted to say we've had a very active little boy the last two days.
It's like he woke up wanting to jazzercise after a whole freaking week of nothing!

My tummy keeps jiggling, you can see him moving all over the place through my shirts... it's nutty, in comparison to last week!

..and my stinkin OB's office called to say they left a message on MedVoice.
Well, I have a MedVoice password but no user number. So I'm a bit irritated.

I never got any stretch marks from DS. I attest that to being bigger to begin with. I think smaller framed people get them worse.

I never got that line up the belly to belly button either. We are all different that is for sure...Now acne on the other hand, my face is a mess right now.

Thanks. I am not too worried about the weight, I asked the nurse if that was a lot and she just made a silly face and told me to watch what I eat. I was slightly overweight (size 12/14) so I probably need to gain less but as long as I am not blowing up and baby is healthy I am going to relax. My sister keeps saying I am having twins too, they need to shut it LOL before I get a complex.

You're right, I have had NO morning sickness. I was terrified thinking the pregnancy wasn't going to make it because I wasn't sick but everything has turned out fine so far. Also, I am on restriction and not allowed to exercise at all. The nurse even said no walking at my appointment last week. I think my lack of physical activity is going to contribute to the weight gain but as long as I have a healthy baby I will worry about the weight later.

I am so happy to be a SAHM!!! I can't wait and I am so glad Robert agrees and has a job where we are able to do it. I have always wanted to stay home with my kids...now if I can convince him to transfer to his North Carolina office things will be just heavenly (I hate yucky Florida!)

Funny you mention North Carolina...my DH hates Rhode Island and wants to move NC in a couple of years. He is talking about Apex or Cary.

My Dh isn't completely sold on the idea but he is coming around. We are going to take a trip in the Spring and check it out and meet with a realtor. He knows it makes sense for our family but he doesn't do change very well.

I just called my DH, he is driving home from work, and put in my late night craving request earl so he doesn't have to go back out (so thoughtful of me!) Yummmm..... meatball sub!
