Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

:thumbsup2 Good idea. I think we just need to clean out some of DH's stuff upstairs and make it the early baby gift area.

I feel like I need some kind of list to check off, so we don't end up with mulitples of everything. I have an awesome co-worker who just had her 3rd (and last!) child last summer. We're the same size and she's given me a bunch of very nice maternity clothes. Yesterday she hesitanly brough up have an excer-saucer if I wanted it and I told her I had no problem with hand me downs and I'd be more than happy to take whatever she had as long as she didn't mind if some of it might be donated. She was THRILLED! She said she's coming up with a list of stuff she thinks are in great condition and worth me taking.

Another question: Do you all have closets for your babies? We have an issue there. I currently use the closet in the baby's room, because the closet in our bedroom is waaaay too small for 2. We're hoping to get an armoire to use for the baby. Do you think it would be enough?

Our nursery does have a closet... but it's a little weird. It's old pine wood with gaps between the boars, and narrow, narrow, narrow! I want to re-do the inside of the closet to make it look better and I also don't see a point in hanging up some of my little boy's stuff quite yet. Re-doing the inside of the closet, though, is a project that will just have to wait quite awhile for me to get done.

Luckily, when I was in high school my parents bought me a bedroom set that is still at their house. I don't know where else I'd put it, so it'll be perfect for the nursery!! It's the piece on the far left:

It's shelves inside, and I plan to get baskets for some stuff to put inside.

I know what you mean about the list, too! I totally keep google'ing "Baby Checklist" but think I'll just end up at Toys R Us and going off of what I see. They give you 10% off whatever doesn't get bought so I'm registering for EVERYTHING down to bottle liners. People might think I'm crazy but I'd love the extra 10%!!

Laura,

How awesome! Baby showers are so much fun!! I like the idea of boy/girl showers!

Did you register? I'm trying to decide. My mother is throwing my shower and wants me to go register. I didn't register for my wedding because I felt like it was "asking" people to bring me a gift. She says it is different for a baby, because people need to know what you already have/don't have.

This is too funny!!

That is really funny. It is driving my husband crazy not knowing the baby's sex. I have a doctors appt today and I think he is going to ask for an ultrasound. I've got my 20 week app't next month, and he can't wait that long. :cloud9:

DH is over the moon with his little boy.

We've been so busy, though, he didn't really realize how far along I am. It's not really been like I'm pregnant and so it's been easy for him to forget. I called him Thursday and said "Ultrasound is Saturday" and he said "WHAT? :scared1: Already!?"

I don't think there is any doubting we've got a little boy, though!

I think at first we're just going to use a dresser that we already have to store baby clothes. There's a closet in the baby's room, but right now it has a lot of books and things in it. We definitely need to get rid of some stuff. I just don't see the need to hang up her teeny tiny clothes right away. When she's bigger and her clothes get bigger with her, we'll use the closet.

Okay, good...I thought I was being selfish. We hope to be out of our current house by the time the baby is 2, so hopefully I won't need a lot of hanger space.
Are you going to find out what you're having?? If you are, I think I'd wait. I was totally okay with neutral stuff until I found out. Now I'm rethinking everything I already picked out! :rotfl:

My mom is going to combine my shower with my birthday (which is April 7th).. I'm due June 3rd, so about 7 months. I think that is pretty perfect and an added bonus to combine my birthday. I think it'll be me, my aunts, my cousins (three females) and my mom before for a birthday thing and then the shower in the afternoon with everyone else!

Yes, we are. I asked cuz my mom said she wanted to have the shower in late June, which is only a month before I'm due. I think that's too late.

DH and I actually met while working at TRU in high school. So I know EXACTLY what you mean! I actually was in charge of the baby area for a while and I helped A LOT of women register for babies.

Piecey is that picture really dis appropriate!? LOL Just kidding! Congrats, you have a very manly little man! :teeth:

Probably not. :rotfl: :rolleyes1

I think a month before you're due would be too close for me. I want time to get situated and get things in order and washed and returned or exchanged or what not. Based off of what these other mamas are saying, we aren't going to feel like doing that when we're HUGE!

Also, I know of a lot of people who went early and didn't get to have their showers. I like my mom's idea of 7 months. :thumbsup2

7 months is good for a shower; I would have liked to have mine earlier, but that would have put it right around Christmas, so we opted for the first Saturday that wasn't right after a holiday.

Piecey- Congrats on your little boy.

Well, I'm off to the doctors right now. I am going to see if my honey can wait unti Feb 5th to find out. I don't really think he is going to have a choice in the matter. We'll see...

Maybe I can convince them to have it the week school gets out since DH is a teacher. One can have one that weekend and one the next. That would be about 8 weeks or so...

Nah, you're not being selfish at all! It seems to me I can just lay the tiny garments flat in the drawers anyway, so why hang them?

Hello Ladies,

I just found this thread so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Valerie & recently found out I'm pg again. My DS is 5 1/2 years old & is in Kindergarten, so this is a little bit of a surprise, but a good one. :goodvibes

According to my lmp, my EDD is 9/5/09. My first OB appt isn't until later this week. This pg I'll be considered high risk x4. I'm 37, I'm fat, I have high blood pressure & I had my DS at 26 1/2 weeks. Eek, listed out like that, it sounds pretty bad, but I am very hopeful. In addition to a regular OB, I'll be seeing a high risk OB as well as the hypertension doc. So I fully expect to be tested like a lab rat this go-round. If it results in a healthy, fully baked, take home baby, I'll be elated. If I make it into August with this little baby bean, I'l be over the moon, happy.

If all goes well we'll be heading down to Disney mid-March when I should be be 16-17 weeks along. No Mountains or Everest for me this year. :) That's me, in a nutshell.

Welcome Dannysmom! There are alot of us older broads on this thread!

As for the baby's stuff, I think I'm going to put dd9's chest in my room (it is a cheap narrow pressboard one that someone gave us 8 yrs ago after our house burned. I painted it Bibbity Bobbity Blue and Princess Pink and it turned out really cute, but it is small) and get dd9 a new one. Hopefully, that will be enough storage for a little while. I will have to rearrange my room a little bit to get it to fit. I don't know where we are going to put everything!

You guys are making me feel a lot better. Who knew I would stress over closet space?! lol

So did all of you have one shower? or multiple? I know the ladies at work will have a seperate one for me. So I'll at least have two.
With my first, I had one shower.. It was about a month before the baby was due, and worked out great.
This was so sweet, I just had to share it somewhere. My sister is recently divorced which was sad for all of us because in addition to being attached to BIL (and angry that he left my sis for someone else), his family is wonderful and while my sister still sees them; we don't as much anymore. Especially since BIL plans on remarrying at the end of this year. Anyway, my sister went to her ex-MIL's house to pick up her kids on Saturday and mentioned to her I was expecting. The first thing this sweet lady said? "Oh, she probably got rid of everything years ago. Do you think she would mind if I helped you throw her a shower?"

She is such a classy person, her son still has a lot to learn from her.
How SWEET!!

I hear that. I am trying to figure out what to do with all the stuff in our room too. I keep the little ones dresser in my room, otherwise her clothes would be all over the floor..ALL the time. I think I will just put the babies stuff in there for a while. Baby stuff is small, shouldnt take up to much room.

From one old broad to another, Congratulations and Welcome!

I love your greeting :lmao: ... I can total relate.
We are having a welcomed surprise too...I was on the pill when we conceived but we couldn't be happier!!! DS (2) is going to get a playmate.

Mrs. Disney Ron

I went to our local craft store tonight to get letters to spell out his name..

Unfortunately, they only had L U C S.

Bummer. I've got to stalk me a wooden A, now!

With DD1 I bought an old wardrobe at an estate sale and used that as her closet. Once she was bigger, we ended up taking our stuff out of her closet and putting in shelves to make it her toy area; it was super cute and NEEDED because our house was pretty small and didnt have room for all the toys she kept receiving.
We did add a second pole to the wardrobe since her clothes were so tiny we were able to double hang them. Then we skipped the changing table and used a dresser w/ changing pad instead.
This time I really MESSED UP. We live about two hours from Minneapolis. In November I went for a weekend w/ my girlfriends and saw this dresser that was sooooooooooooooooo perfect. First non-antique piece i was buying for one of my kids - I am getting so practical in my old age ;)
Anyway, it was up on a shelf and my tall friend read the tag and said "ok, its 10 inches shorter than this dresser here on the floor" So, we checked that one out - impt to note I am only 5' tall. Got the darn thing into the SUV (major struggle...4 females...long weekend away...shopping at the holidays and I want to shove a DRESSER???? in the car? I have very patient friends ;) )
The next week I came home from Bunco and my DH who is 6'7" tall says...so I got the dresser put together for you....I LOVE it ....what the @$%^ were you thinking???? When I ran up to the nursery I discovered Katie had read the tag WRONG and it was 10 inches TALLER than the other dresser and the top is AT MY ARMPITS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess I will be a. getting a stool or b. changing diapers on the floor this time around?????
Neither of my other girls wants to give up their furniture!! And i am not gonna push it....
Tomorrow is supposed to 40 BELOW ZERO here with the wind chill...I am guessing they will cancel school ... why oh why do we live in Wisconsin???????
sorry. i am rambling.
bought a petunia pickle bottom diaper bag w/ matching stroller blanket on ebay yesterday :yay: I am sooooooooo happy.

That is such a funny story! :rotfl:
I ordered our changing table from Wal Mart... it's not here yet. Nothing is put together, either. We're trying to buy paycheck by paycheck by paycheck but the nursery isn't close to done yet! :rotfl: (Like, it's missing a wall at the moment..)

I have never even heard of a petunia pickle bottom diaper bag..
