New Yorkers - How much is your flight from JFK or LGA?

Do you only fly on Tuesdays? For our dates, I never saw a return flight alone for under $200 (to all NYC area airports).

No we have flown at all days and in all seasons. It's really just a matter of keeping an eye on the prices and being flexible with the time you're willing to fly. We love to take the first flight out to MCO to maximize our WDW time and normally those will fall to $99. This past October though we flew on a Saturday night and Thursday afternoon and got those rates. 2013 was Saturday/Tuesday in April.

To answer another who asked how far out I book, late October 2014 was booked in late August and late April 2013 was booked early March and early April. And I'm always fine with booking 1 way if a price on one flight is better and I think I can get a better deal later on the other flight.

Thank you for the information. I'm a little nervous to wait because we need to be able to get seats together, but we're still about 3 months out from our travel date so I'll watch prices for a bit longer and see what happens. We're flying down on Thursday and back on Saturday.

We live in fairfield county CT and fly out of the following airports into Orlando several times a year (we have family in that area). Hartford, White Plains, LGA, JFK, and Newark. We have even flown out of Newburgh and Long Island (Islip). I am a bargain hunter, and in the summer the lowest I can get is usually about 250 pp. Other times of the year its around 200. In December last year I got it for 160 pp. So, it can vary greatly depending on the time of the year. For the best prices its best to be a little flexible. I have found flying into Tampa is often much cheaper in the summer months. Its honestly only an hour away. If you are already renting a car its really not bad at all and honestly IMO Tampa is a much nicer airport with a much better security set up. This June we are flying out of LGA and back home into White Plains- it was 250 pp and in August we are flying round trip from Hartford- which was one way on points and home was around 110 per person. Good luck! (BTW we fly southwest, Jet blue and Delta). Dont be afraid to fly one carrier down and another home (hacker fares). It often will save you a bunch!

^ We're not renting a car, we're using Magical Express so we have to fly into MCO.

Do you drive to the airport and pay for long-term parking, or take a car service to the airport? We don't own a car, so we have to take a service which I'm sure would be $$ to go to an airport ~2 hours away.

I dont know your specific dates but go on Kayak.com to search flights. You can still very easily fly one way out of LGA and one way out of JFK (and on different carriers).

We either pay a someone to drive us into LGA or JFK, do a stay and fly hotel package, or pay to park our own car at the airport. Not having a car makes it a tad more tricky to go to other airports but White Plains is certainly not 2 hours from Brooklyn (maybe in horrible traffic but not by distance!).

If you are needing to be specific on the times of day you want to fly and only flying direct, with certain carrier, be prepared to pay the price the airline demands. If you are flexible, you will likely get a better deal. Good luck!

Also, you live in Brooklyn, and I know for a fact that there are buses that run from Manhattan to EWR. So that gives you another option to get to that Airport. You could even take NJTransit straight to the airport if needed. I just saw $50 for three people and 2 bags per person from NYC to EWR.

I fly out of Philadelphia on SW, to MCO. For Fall, it was about $128 each way, I think. (I used points, but that was the $$ cost). Lately, around $120 has been average from PHL. I can live with that, but keep looking for less of course. (I only post this, because I would expect/hope to pay about the same from NYC, $125-140 each way?)

Our round trip flights are about $300 pp. I saw them for less in the days leading up to when we booked. Our outgoing flight, from JFK to MCO, departs at around 8:30 or 9:30 am. Our return flight is from MCO to Newark and departs MCO at 9 or 10 am.

This plan works because we are staying off property and renting a car. If we wanted to depart MCO in the afternoon or evening it would have been over $400 pp round trip. We decided to stay an extra night and leave in the morning. Our hotel has a great rate so the extra night's room rate was much less than the higher cost of leaving at night the night before (we are a party of 6; our villa is $142 per night; the airfare increase would have been $600-$900 all in). The additional day didn't add any cost to our car rental. And we dont have to leave for MCO four hours before our flight departs because we aren't taking DME.

Lately the fares have become really high from the NYC area. I jump at any ticket I can get below $300. My current tickets cost $350 and I was grateful to get them. The fare is now $650 - and that's for coach. I wanted to make a quick trip this weekend and when I looked last weekend, the fares were over $500. This is from EWR. The last inexpensive ticket I got was for last January flying out on a Sat and home on a Wed.

It seems that Jet Blue and United, which are the only 2 majors flying from EWR keep their fares about the same.

If you want to travel Sat-Sat or Sat-Sun or any other combination, good luck finding a good fare.

I've actually trashed plans to take a weekend trip because of the fares. We have APs and would go far more frequently if the airfare wasn't so high on the weekends. Flying from Philly or JFK adds at least an hour to the trip making us lose almost half a day of an already short trip.

I have no doubt that with the lack of competitioon there is now because of all the mergers, that the few remaining carriers are engaging in collusion to keep prices sky high (pun fully intended).

I got JetBlue flights on 8/26 from Westchester to MCO for $89. It was a while ago though. I got returning on Sept. 7th for $109/$149 from Tampa. I booked returning from Tampa because the return flights on labor day weekend from MCO were really high. I got a rental car for around $35 to pick up at Disney and return to tampa for $35, so it was worth it.

Personally, I think the price of the JetBlue flights out of LGA/JFK will come down, when you look at the taken seats in the planes, the planes are mostly empty. I would wait a bit longer, I think they will come down.

We always need a rental car since we visit family when in Florida. I fly into Tampa because I save a decent amount of money. We are flying from Boston though. For our trip this September, I got direct flights between Boston and Tampa for $105 each way. Same flights into Orlando were $160. If you will be getting a rental car, then I suggest Tampa. This is for JetBlue.

It may be a bit far for those coming from NY but for those in North Jersey who would usually fly out of EWR, SWA has nonstop flights out of Philly for just $73 each way. Not sure about August but definitely for Sept - Dec.
If you don't mind a bit of a drive you could save a lot.
HTH.

Looking for February 2016 for a DCL cruise. Right now the fare is $335 RT from Newark. I'm going to wait.
Just got back from visiting family in FL and I paid $224 RT. Fares are crazy right now.
We are seniors and prefer Newark with a car service.

If the dates you're looking at include President's Day, then I consider $335 a decent fare. It will only go up from there. But you probably can wait a bit to see if they will come down.

Checked out the summer sale on Jet Blue, but it looks like the low fares from NYC are only through mid-June. I'm also still keeping an eye on the Southwest itinerary that makes a stop in Nashville but no plane change. Right now that's $310 RT. It might be worth the extra 2 hours each way on a plane to save $360. There's also an offer for a $100 statement credit and 10,000 bonus miles when you sign up for a SW credit card.

I booked my flight when on the day of release for this late August. $226 round trip Delta from JFK to MCO, Mid morning Tuesday to early evening Wednesday. My family is normally JetBlue people but the price was $100 more for each ticket so Delta here we go. I don't check the same flight everyday but every time I looked, the price went up. The same flight is now $485. It is getting harder to know when to book. The price may go down but also may keep going up. I guess if you travel in a busy time (holidays/summer) then it is better to book sooner if you are comfortable with the price.

My friend who is flying JetBlue next week told me that JetBlue is now charging a $60 fee each ticket if you want a credit for the lower price. (She was getting less than $10 credit after the fees)

Yea apparently that's a new rule, which sucks. You used to be able to get the credit no matter when the price decreased. Now it's only a free credit if the price goes down within 14 days of buying your ticket. From their site:

In the event that a fare on a JetBlue-operated flight decreases after purchase, customers may rebook travel at the lower fare on the same flight with no charge if rebooked within 14 days of the date the original ticket was purchased, and prior to departure. Any difference in fare will be returned in the form of a JetBlue credit, good for one year from the date of issuance. Effective August 14, 2014, there is a $75 fee associated with honoring a lower fare on tickets exchanged 15 days or more from the original purchase date.
