Thanks, Nancy

I ordered two pairs - I get hot spots and have problems with blisters on the 10-15 mile walks. Thanks again, I do hope they help :thumbsup2

Wendy: Nancy and I are doing the Panama Canal crossing with Disney Cruise Line this summer and we were just planning some excursions in Mexico. That's why I said wrong thread. Our "Pirate" thread (as it is called) has thousands and thousands of pages and gets anywhere from 20 to 40 pages of posts a day. We both gave up on it long ago! A little sad to not be one of the group, but it is way too much for us to manage. So we usually do all our discussions via PM. And Nancy is on my team, I am going to make sure she is out there walking the deck every day!
Too funny about your daughter....I know some kids like that! :rolleyes1 Funny how you and I don't have that problem. Hopefully, as they age they will realize it's the journey, not the destination. My neighbor that you met is a little like that. She only enters small races where she can place for her age group. No sense of fun! (I still can't believe she didn't take her Krispy Kremes!) Oh well, to each his own!
Gotta run and get my bathing suit on for water aerobics!

Good Morning team!!!

Crazy weekend, still got my cough but I think I am well enough to start training again.

Weather here has turned bitterly cold so I think it will be TM workouts this week.

Hope you are all having a great week!!!

Kim

Are you going to run ten miles or walk ten miles?

One of the best racewalkers in the world, Dave McGovern, says this about crosstraining:

If you are walker then train to improve your walking with your cross training. If you train racewalking, then the best cross training is regular brisk walking or hiking. Stretching is also required to be a strong walker.

A walker uses more of their body in walking than a runner does running. A runner runs by pumping the legs up and down. A proper walk stride uses all the leg muscles as well as the core muscles and the arms.

Walker Panda:hippie:

This question will really show what a newbie I am.:) Would you please explain the difference between regular fast walking and racewalking.

Hi to all the rest of the team!:cheer2:

Morning everyone. We are also in the deep freeze in central PA. Can someone close the door on this cool air that is blowing at 25 miles/hour? Lynn are you the one sending it my way.

Margie--- Hope the socks work well for you. Beth and I both love them.

Wendy--- What a great way to celebrate DDs 16th Birthday. I still hear from DS#1 how we had to wait until 11pm to have his 16 th birthday cake because I was away with DS#2 at a hockey game.

Jeanne---For some reason I have not been able to get into the part of DCL website that has the information about the excursions. I put all the information in and nothing happens. Will try again later this week. I'm glad that Fran is eager to go on an adventure. We will just have to leave the men fend for themselves.

Kim--- Have fun on your cruise. I have done Carnival and actually I think they have the best food. You are right about DCL being more expensive but I try to book on board the ship to get the discount and onboard credit which helps. Our May 2009 reservation is from a reservation that I changed twice and still was able to get the discount and credit.

Dave--- I guess we Jeanne and I will just have to fight off the Pirates ourselves since the men won't be there to protect us. Maybe it will be Capt Jack who takes us away.

Duckie--- I used Baumgardner's plan for my first half marathon, but I was already walking nearly 20 miles/week before I started her program. JB's plan was more doable when I trained for the full and it must have worked since I did finish the Mickey.

Dave I just want you to know that I am loving the challenge that you started. I know there was some heated discussions about it and I didn't even read all the threads. The big thing it is doing for me is getting me to XT more, which I tend to avoid doing. It will only help me to get stronger. A big :grouphug: to you.

All training today will be indoors that for sure.

Nancy

We registered on line yesterday for the 2009 WDW Marathon. Erica said she couldn't find where to register for the 5K that's the same weekend. Can someone put a link up for her.

Long Distance Panda:hippie:

Dave, The 5K hasn't opened for online reg yet. It has only been open for mail for DVC/Cast Members. It is supposed to be open by end of month.

We signed up on 1/18. :thumbsup2

Everyone have a great week.....

Nancy: Just go to the Ports of Call for our cruise...after that you can click on excursions. It should work.

I wonder if I can find some way to scan that wonderful photo of us with Captain Jack.....you know the one where I was trying to look sexy and you had those Mickey ears on! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: (My kids always say "please don't show that one, Mom!" They are completely mortified by Momma and her friends behavior!)

Walker Panda:hippie:

So, this is why my arms were sore after my long walks just before the half? I also noticed how tone they were getting even though I was neglecting my strength training. I guess I must be doing okay if I'm using the right muscles, huh?

I'm hoping to go back and catch up, but I just find these threads move so fast. I did read something about a cruise though. Fabulous. Can we come? We went on our first cruise last fall, and I was thinking after 7 days we'd be ready to get off. Nope.... I could've easily turned around and gone out another 7 days. It was all I could do to not cry getting off the ship. My 5 yo still talks about it almost every day and says she wants our next 1 to last forever.

Here are my girls on pirate night.

Good afternoon everyone!

Sheesh this thread moves fast!

Nasty cycle this winter -- bitter cold (yesterday -2 with -20 windchill) then as it warms up a little it snows (today's high 18 and have snow advisory). I can't wait until I can walk outside again! We have no sidewalks in our neighborhood so with all the snow and ice it's really dangerous.

Got fitted for shoes Friday night. Boy do they make a difference! Feels more fluid while walking and actually less shin pain (am doing exercises to help with that). Also picked up a Garmin on eBay to use for walking/biking and can't wait to test that out.

Hope everyone has a good week and I'll try to check back in more often.

Can't wait....sounds like fun!

:lmao: Let's hope those pirates look like captain Jack! If not, you ladies can throw them overboard to swim with the sharks!

Nancy - we were not directly affected by the tornadoes. One hit about 10 miles from my home. We did get the wind effects (roof damage and some minor flooding) but all is well with us. Luckily, the tornado missed the more populated areas but sadly, took some lives and damaged around 60 homes and businesses.

Dave - I think I mentioned that I love the weekly team challenges. I didn't realize there were some heated discussions about them. I've just seen mostly positive things from everyone. The only negatives I saw weren't really negatives but more concerns about staying a WISH team vs. individual teams. I can certainly understand that concern. However, I think the smaller teams are a good way to get more people involved in the the WISH team concept to get healthier by being active and accountable for their activities. Now if I can just figure out how to take down thundrmatt. He's SUPERMAN. I need some of those pills he's taking.

All those going on cruises - I'm jealous! Kim - have fun! One of my fondest vacation memories was when I went on a Carribean cruise with just my girlfriends. We had a blast. I need to do that again!

For those with bitter cold weather- yikes! Sending you guys some virtual hot chocolate to help keep you warm.

Good Afternoon!

I'm trying to keep up, honest. It's just hard for me to do more than 2 or 3 long posts a day at work, and I'm on too many threads that move too fast -- this one, lean meaners, 150s club, Team Ohana (plus the occasional one the Panda starts just for fun) -- this is becoming a serious hobby!:surfweb:

Liz -- I'm freezing w/-20, too...It sounds like you love your new shoes. I wish you many hours of walking fun:cool1:

Eva -- We love cruising! We've done the eastern and western Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Mexican Riviera. They were all great, but the best entertainment was on DCL. I love their shows, and I couldn't get ds out of the kids club!:cloud9:

Jeanne -- What a fantastic trip you have planned! I am really looking forward to hearing about all your adventures!pirate:

Nancy -- Just like you, the challenge has got me actually doing my XT. I was faithful about the long walks, but I convinced myself that was all I needed to do. It hasn't been a week yet, and I already can see where more XT will be a huge benefit. We're going to have so much fun!:dance3:

Sam -- I will let Dave explain racewalking, which is a separate sport. I will say that XT is really important, no matter what your goal. I learned this the hard way, by not doing mine...:rolleyes1

Kim -- Please be gentle with yourself, we want you pampered and well!princess:

Dave -- You are a naughty panda! You have started most of the threads where I'm spending my work day! I'm blaming you for my lack of attention at work...I guess I'll have to set a time limit, 'cause ya'll are addictive!:rotfl:

Duckie -- I too love the shiny objects...and there's a new medal design this year, how can we say no?!:lmao:

Wendy -- Consider yourself lucky your daughters will do some races with you (well, at least the one). My ds is 10, and I tried to get him to do some local children's races (he's actually one of the fastest kids in his class, he has his father's lean body), but he wants no part of it. Not enough Nintendo on the course, I guess:rotfl2:

Ok, so I'm on the TM for 60 minutes tonight. I'm hoping to break my record (it's nothing to be excited about, trust me), and go further than 4.215 miles. Wish me luck!

Maria

Eva--- Cute picture of your girls.

Susie--- Glad that you and DH made it through the storms. The pictures I saw had so much damage. Thanks for the hot chocolate.

twoWDWfools--Good sneakers do make a big difference.

Jeanne--- I can't even get in that far to get to the port of calls. Will keep trying. Sent you a short pm. Nice to know that I not only moritify my own children but yours as well. :rotfl2: Isn't that part of our job as parents.

Maria--- I have several WISH threads going and LOST threads. It is hard to keep up. At least the LOST thread only moves fast the day after it is aired. The others are way to fast some days for me.

Plan to do the TM and Pilates tonight.

Nancy

Duckie, please tell us a short bio of where you are right now as an athlete? Your age, physical condition ect. How much exercise are you doing now and for how long have you been exercising.

Have you been fitted for shoes at a good running/walking store? Do you have clothes that work goos for you and don't cause any chaffing?

How far is the longest regular walk you are doing now?

Inquiring Panda:hippie:

Okay, I'm 36, at the low side of "healthy" body weight (I think that means they consider me "thin" but that's another story), and in good health overall (I am treated for asthma, but I've been so healthy that the dr took me off the maintenance meds and I just have a rescue inhaler that I use before workouts). I have been working out several days a week for the past month (!). I am walking about 3.5 miles several days a week, and my longest walk so far is 5 miles. This week my long walk is 6 miles on Saturday. The race I'm looking at is on March 30. It's a 10 mile walk. :) I am scheduled to do a 10 mile training walk the week prior to that.

My shoes were fitted at a running store and I have happy clothes to wear for workouts (wicking, coolmax clothes and excellent socks that are not only wicking but don't have a toe seam!). No chafing so far. *fingers crossed*

I've tried several gels (I like the gu the best--the powerbar gel tasted like cough syrup--in a bad way).

What do you think, Panda? Too much? I don't want to disappoint myself, but I also don't want to be so worried that I don't try stuff I should be trying, either.

I meant to ask if anyone has heard from Karla - klh-or (I think) lately? I'm just wondering how she's doing. I don't want her to get discouraged because she was making some good progress. Karla, are you out there?

What an adventure: The Panda Family do Nashville

To start we had an uneventfull drive down and meet our girl friend at her hotel. Then we went for a wonderful dinner at the Brentwood Grill, the girls got "lobster in a can", which is like 2 big stuffed shells with a lobster and mixed cheeses filling. I was good and got a shrimp with pasta with a marinara sause, great food.

Then we headed down town for some drink and rowdy country music fun. At the first parking lot we got ripped off of our $10 parking fee by a vagrent. You you supposed to put your money in the machine, (a big sign that we missed said so), but our friend handed the money to the guy and got a fake ticket. Oh this was after I got lost and ahd to drive on the sidewalk for a bit, but we ain't going there.

When we got to the bar, The Stage a Country bar with a live band. The were pretty good some of them play on road trips with "Big and Rich". Any way we asked the bartender about the parking thing and he said it was a scam and our car could get towed. We moved the car to a parking garage about 2 blocks away. The guy in the little house said it was open till the bars close at 2am.

We drank and had fun, I drank mostly water since I was driving. About 1am we decided to call it a night, so I gathered my drunk princesses and headed back to the car. When we got there the garage was locked. A big sign said it closed at 1130pm and any cars left after that would be $50 to have someone come out and open the garage so we could get it out. Well we committed a little breaking and entering and rescued the VW. I suppose it was just a tad illegal but the fellow lied to us to rip us off for $50. The mission impossible team would have been proud.

But after a good night's sleep of about 4 hours, I drove my princess home and put her back to bed and our friend headed off to her home in Cincinnati. All in all a super good time and a typical Panda adventure.

Now I'm resting and icing my achillies I whacked again stepping off a curb the wrong way.

Have a great day y'all

Adventure Panda

Good Afternoon!

A quick post for me today -- I could not find my rhythm last night, so although I was on the TM an hour, I didn't go very far.

Oh, Panda, Our Wild and Wooly Panda -- Everywhere you go is an adventure, isn't it?! I don't think you should be allowed out without supervision! Glad you had a good time, even with the parking woes!

Duckie -- My only advice to you is to not try to do too much too soon. Take it from someone who learned the hard way...increasing your mileage too fast leads to injury and disappointment.:sad2:

Life is to short to follow all the rules, don't cha know. You should have seen Erica, she was going to be medival on someone if she didn't get her new VW back. I haven't seen her that livid for a while. Not since the dentist did a $4000 bridge job then told her he didn't take our insurance anymore.

But we rescued it and didn't have to pay the ransom. "Think John Belusi in Animal House".

 $4,000?! He is lucky he is still breathing (I'm assuming he is; you didn't actually say what she DID to him...)

As long as you had the bail money, it's all good. :cool1: Glad you had a good time.
