Here is a link to some good walking video:

Check out the site and the links.

Thanks! The site had a good description of racewalking and some great video. It almost looks like the racewalkers are barely touching the ground; it looks like a very 'efficient' walking method. Very cool!

Good morning Walker friends.

I'm trying real hard to not get discouraged right now. My left achillies has been bothering me a lot since the Goofy. I'll have days when it's not to bad but lots of days when it's really sore to. I've decided to take a few days this week to just rest. I have to get by this and back to normal and trying to still get even a little training right now is not working.

SamSam, glad you liked the link. I taught myself to racewalk and there is lots of good information out there to help you.

You may not like this but do you think you should have it professionally looked at??????????? A sports Dr could possibly give you some exercise to relieve some of that pain or send you down a different path.

I took last night off and sewed, at times we need to rest our bodies and last night was one of them, I was scheduled for a massage and she cancelled because of the flu. So I still took it off and boy I do feel great today. Rest is a great way to make you feel ready to go. I know Dave, you've had enough rest but their may be more to this and to relieve your mind, a professional may help.

Good luck.

Snow, freezing rain, and plain old rain today in New Hampshire so it will be back on the TM tonight. I have my manual for the machine and will check the circuit breakers on it, that may be the problem. An uninterrupted workout, wow no more math!

My time is improving steadily doing racewalking. Took me some time to learn, so many parts to keep track of! But over the last year, I have shaved a couple minutes off my time.:goodvibes

Is anyone else making an effort to enter more local races? I am entered in one for March 8 and hope to enter another for the 15th. I want to get in to the Red Bud Classic before my next big race too, at the end of April. I actually joined the two closest running/walking clubs, so that I would know when the races are coming up and when I can enter them. Locating "local-ish" races was my biggest problem.

I also signed up my husband!! LOL I even bought him a Wish Alert shirt! Now, if the procedure on his back just works, he won't have an excuse, anymore!

Today is a rest day. I will do a little cross training!

Happy Walking, Everyone!

Denise, I have had it looked at. I had some torn tissue that has healed and left scar tissue which is easily irritated. I have some pain and swelling from the Goofy. What I need to do is stop trying to train on it and let it heal back up. But I promise if rest and ice for a while doesn't help I'll seek medical advice.

OK, then your miles will suffer but your times will be fine with your other work outs. Even with your sore foot, you still managed to beat me in miles last week. :confused3

Take care

I was going to head to the pool today and have water fun but the roads are ice covered with a layer of snow on top of that. I'll chance going to work but not the gym. Although the gym is more fun.

The Wisdom of Yoda, "Do or Do not, there is no Try". That so reminds me of Robert. He is like the bee, he flys because he believes he can. Even with all his physical problems he did the Goofy and you couldn't tell he was having any pain at all. To bad you can't bottle that.

Most of the rest of us had near death experiences during some part of the race but Robert just kept chugging on. He is surely the master of being there for the pure Joy of the experience. He is insane but quite the inspiration.

I can't wait for the TOT and be there in the land where people believe in the magic again. Does anyone have a link for the registration for the ToT? I can't ind one and we need to get our registration sent in.

Who is planning the MNSSHP this year??

Dave: Thanks for the nice comments. Take care of the Achilles! We both know what happens when you dont!

I went to the pool yesterday morning and did an 1 hr (1/2 mile swim and underwater bike action) to try to get my knee back. Pain but not too bad. Went on slow 2 mile walk in afternoon to work out sore knee joint. Did PT excercises and portable Stim unit on knee.

BTW, ToT reg isn't up yet. It was up until April last year. EEC reg goes up on Friday so don't expect overlap for a few weeks at least.

Hope everyone is out there having fun. Will be doing some recumbant bike today as it is snowing. 1st time since surgery. I don't think this will be too fun:sad2:

Get your legs healed Robert, we have a bunch more memories to make.

Dave and Robert - hope you both take some time to heal and feel better soon. I tried to overdue it after tearing my ACL and paid for it. Hoping to walk with you at ToT. That is until you leave me in the dust...

Steffwalks - congrats on the time improvement! We're still looking into some local events. There are quite a few but most seem to be downtown Chicago or north of the city and we're southwest. However there is a Wrigley Field Cubbie 5K that I believe I must do. :cool1:

We got another 3" of snow during rush yesterday afternoon so blew my time getting home which then pretty much had me not wanting to go back out. Gave myself an extra off night (bad, I know) and watched the rest of Westminster.

Sun is out today, bag is in car and a good gym workout on tap.

Hi, my name's Sarah. I have decided to do the Disneyland Half Marathon Aug. 31, 2008. I am not a runner in any sence of the word. I have started walking on the TM in the gym and sometimes jogging for a few minutes. I try to walk at about a 15 min. per mile pace. Just looking to chat with people who have done a Half Marathon.

I mentioned that I joined two running clubs....One is 100 miles from here the othe about 150, in opposite directions! I was having trouble finding the small races and not being able to register in time. Now, I get the newletter so I can stay up-to-date! The club fees were absolutely nominal, $20 and $25 for an annual family memebership. I had thought of joining for a couple of years, but I wasn't sure I qualified! No I find I just WANT MORE races!! :lmao:

Good Afternoon!

Ok, I don't have much of a heart to post today -- I'll try to make this short. I ended up going to bed with half a pizza and no exercise. When I went to pick ds up from his After School program, the lights were off and the doors were locked. The teachers in charge *forgot* him and left. Fortunately he was with his former 3rd grade teacher, helping her in her room. She had no idea they had left, either. He's fine, I'm fine, but last night when I finally got him half an hour after we arrived (no, we were not late), I was a shaking blob of Mommy goo.

No heart for exercise or eating right, just feeling a bit rattled.

Welcome to new folks, and I promise to have a positive post tomorrow!

OMG, I would have had to have a bottle of wine with that pizza. Today will be better,

Welcome Sarah, jump right in on any of the conversation. We love company.

Maria, I want pizza to.

Denise, got any more of that wine?

Hungry Panda:hippie:

Connie-- You are so lucky that the race clubs in your area support walkers. I asked about the one in our area which was started by the owner of where I buy my sneakers and the response I got was less than welcoming. So I never joined. I just thought doing some of the races would be a change of scenery.

Dave--- Well you had quite the adventure in Nashville. Seems you had trouble dealing with just 2 overly zealous princesses how are you going to handle all of us at ToT.

Robert--Your recovery schedule is amazing. I also was amazed in Jan how you could walk the Goofy and not look like you were even struggling and in pain. I looked like I feeled. It is just not right that someone can look so good and being feeling so much pain.

Welcome Sarah:welcome:

Maria--- You have every right to be upset about what happened.

Denise-- I'm with you I want the pizza and wine. Then I would feel so much better.

Liz--- Wasn't that beagle Uno so cute that won Westminister. Of course I am partial to beagles since I have one.

Yesterday my only exercise was ice scraping and shoveling slush. Until the ice melts there will be no walking outside for me.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE

Nancy
