Good Morning!

Yesterday was a rest day, so I started my strength training. A half hour is a long time with weights, but I stuck with it and did some stretching, too. I don't feel sore at all today. I even went from 5 to 8 lb. hand weights, and I still feel good. I couldn't do as much with the 8s, but I'm going to get there!

Dave -- you are our prankster panda! You're right about the high cost of living in NE. The 2br condo we bought in 1998 recently sold for much more than we paid for our house in 2001. I'm not moving again until we are empty nesters, and then I'm hoping it's to a warmer, less expensive climate!:thumbsup2

Kathy -- The Warm FX sounds great, I'll be looking for it!:yay:

Nancy -- Alas, I think your welcome is premature. Dennis is my dh, and I haven't been able to drag him on here yet. Mike belongs to Kim:upsidedow

Jeanne -- We know you are busy with your captaining duties, just keep leading us and we will follow!:woohoo:

Wendy-- What, you can't spend your work day posting with us?:rolleyes1 Yep, I am a bad, bad employee. I do try to limit myself somewhat, some days, it's just the nature of my work -- I either have free time or I am totally deluged. Luckily, the free time is pretty good Dec. - Feb., so I can post more then.

Sam -- :cool1: You'll be nice and comfy with the Body Glide!

Robert -- I think I'm a'scared of the tips you guys might be sharing. Ya'all ain't right, y'know...:rotfl2:

Duckie -- Thanks for sharing the exercise, I will try it!

Mike -- Welcome, our north of the border pal! The fellas can always use another one to balance all the pretty princessesprincess:

Everyone have an awesome day!

Good Morning team!!!!

Dave: Take care of your achillies

Maria: WTG on getting in those workouts!!!

Nancy: No this cruise isn't with DCL, I am going with Carnival. However, we are cruising with DCL again in October. I did love our first crusie with DCL but honestly the price different is huge, only reason I am going back with them in Oct is that it is a double dip at Castaway Cay and I love it there.

Yikes, sorry gotta run, will post back later
Kim

Morning everyone. We have been having a heat wave here in PA with temps in the 60's. To bad I was working and couldn't do my walks outside. It still gets dark here before 6pm.

Jeanne-- You are turning into a racing machine. Soon you will be doing as many races as Wendy. I know my pm was long, and would take time to respond just checking that you got it. I wish Lehigh Valley hadn't been the week before Minnie as I would have like to have done a half in the spring. Got my airfare for Minnie. Now need to start looking for the cruise.

Kim--- I didn't realize you were doing a cruise. Is it DCL and where are you going?

Welcome Dennis:welcome:

Kathy--- Does that Body Glide Warm FX smell like Bengay? I have so many aches and pains during a long walk, I might have to coat my entire body in the stuff.

Regarding socks, Beth and I attend a seminar where we received free samples of X-Static socks. These are socks which have silver imbedded in them. They have alot other properties also, but are used by the military and diabetics to help with heat control, moisture control, and athlete's foot. After I got them I used them for all my long walks and the marathon. I had no problems whatever with blisters or any hot spots on my feet. I plan to buy more of them as they were wonderful. It was one of the few products that I get at conferences that I can use myself.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Nancy, Where do we get these socks?

Hi everyone.

Busy day today on the boards with everyone posting their miles/hours. I curious to see how we all did.

I'm going to try a little racewalking tomorrow, I think the achillies is up to a little bit at brisk pace.

How is everyone else feeling, everyone who had the flu doing better?

Happy Panda:hippie:

Here is another aweful picture of me racing last year, I already posted one on the aweful pics thread but this one is worse. It's was a 98 degree day with a 100% humidity though, that's why I look near death.:)

I tried to post this one before but couldn't figure out how.

Oh well didn't work sorry. I am picture challanged.

Dave,

Your link is missing the ".jpg" and that's why it isn't working.

Good Morning!

I am very pleased to report that despite how tired I was last night, I got on the TM and did 4.2 miles in an hour, which is a very good pace for me. It really is a case of just getting on the TM and seeing what happens. I could have talked myself out of it, but I had to do my best for Team Ohana, since I didn't have a real excuse:goodvibes

It's Xtrng for me today -- stationary bike and weights. I'm excited about how much more fit I will be for the Half next year, just by actually doing the crosstraining. I really skimped on it last year. I'm also already eating better. It will take longer for that to show results -- why do I always gain initially when I start exercising like I should?!:confused3 But eventually it will work itself out.

Dave -- Let us know how the racewalking goes!:cool1:

Anyhoo -- Everybody have a great day, and a wonderful weekend!
Maria

Maria do you feel like the team competition will help you to get your miles in and your goals met?

Hi guys the forum is really moving fast today, a thread can go from top to bottom in one day. When I first joined you could go all day and just get a few posts except for the weekly thread.

How's everyone feeling. My achillies feels like it is going to let me walk tomorrow.

Have a super evening y'all.

Robert thanks for figuring out what I was doing wrong with my picture posting. You are doing great keeping me out of trouble.

I made an adjustment to the game rules. If you compete in an organized race like a local 5K your miles for the race count double.

I'm doing this to encourage people especially the ones new to exercise to get some experience with the little ones and get the rookie mistakes out of the way. That way they can enjoy the Disney races more. Nothing like going out to fast at the beginning and suffering the rest of the race.

Walk strong dear friends.

Good Morning!

I did my biking yesterday, and in a few minutes I'll get going on my long walk. The team competition is definitely helping me. It is very easy for me to decide not to do my scheduled work out, but with an entire team relying on me, I just can't do that. This was my most consistent week in months -- completely because of the team competition.

Dave -- This has to be one of your best ideas, ever! I love the pic, you keep us on toes, Windwalker!

Everyone have a great walking weekend!
Maria

Thank you Maria. Let's all make this year a turning point in our fitness journey.

I have a secret reason for wanting to go to a new level myself. I want to medal in 2011 at the National Senior Olympics and go to the World games. It seems like an impossible dream right now with my naughty achillies but it gives me a direction to focus.

Wise Panda (or anyone else who knows the difference), I picked a copy of "Marathoning for Mortals." When I checked out the half-marathon walking training plan, it is very different from the other plans as far as mileage-building. According to Bingham, the 3-mile walk should be my long walk this week because I did 5 miles last week. Higdon has me doing another 5 mile run this week (novice plan).

Any preferences on which will get me there with the least chance of injury and still supporting my success? :confused3

I mall-malked 3.5 miles in an HOUR this morning! Much faster!

I noticed that this time, it's the center of my calf muscle that is complaining when I walk fast--my shins had nothing to say the past couple days!

Thank you to anyone who has any idea what I'm talking about and can give me some context to consider this....

I just came in from a sweet little 6 miler! I saw some fascinating signs of spring, believe it or not! I saw a teeny-tiny grasshopper. Of course, he will be lucky to get big enough to have off spring...at least we can hope so! A few little birds hopping about looking for grain, too! But the really neat thing was a brand new baby calf! It was getting up on it's feet for the very first time. It was still wet and you could still see the little swirlies where it's momma had been licking it. It was awesome!::yes::

That is so amazing! When I was in high school, my parents took my brother and I to Lancaster, PA, and we saw a fresh-born baby calf--the mom was still licking it and it wasn't "clean" yet--so cute!

If spring is coming to Texas, maybe she can swing through the northeast at some point, too! :)

Duckie, I used the "Marathoning for Mortals" when I did my first 20K and it was a trail race. (no pavement and barely a trail!) I didn't have an injury and I finished with quite good time considering it was a pretty brutal introduction into racing!

Hummm that's nice:cool1:

Thanks for asking Dave, the flu is gone, but now its the head cold/sinus.

My area has lots of snow, slush, and ice. Our roads are terrible. I was able to get in a nice 3.5 mile walk out side today. :yay:

:cheer2: I THINK WE HAD A GREAT WEEK TEAM IN BOTH MILES AND TIME!!!!

Duckie - I swear by Marathoning for Mortals, I have done 3 1/2 marathons with it and have done well in each one. Do you have a 1/2 marathon planned for the weekend of April 12?

I am doing the Cap City Half in Columbus Ohio that weekend and am in the same spot in my Mortals training schedule.

I'm either planning for the new jersey half on 5/4 or the Minnie that weekend, and my dh is SO wishing I would decide that the lehigh valley is what I want to do the last weekend in April (he's from there).

I only started walking three weeks ago, so I'm working on building the mileage right now.

Thank you for your feedback. I read the first 180 pages or so of the book this afternoon, and I think I'm going to stick with this plan. According to Bingham's perspective, my initial training regimen has been too aggressive, so I'm going to follow his plan more closely, I think. It seems like a better, safer way to go.

Duckie - it is really easy to get too agressive and end up hurting, I think you will really get into the Mortals plan since it lets you train and have life :rotfl2:

I am doing the Minnie 15k - would be cool to see you there

That's what I got from Bingham's book--too much, too soon (I am one of those Type A people he talks about-when I decide to do something, I go overboard). It's good to know so many people found the advice not only helpful but worth using as a primary guide.

I am SO hoping we can go to the Minnie. I had found airfare for $298 r/t for dh and I a couple weeks ago and he balked. Now I can't come close to that!

He's also giving me a hard time about whether there will be AP discounts for that weekend--of course, it is too early to tell!

I really want to do the Minnie with my WISH teammates!
