Interesting article. Did you see the comment some idiot posted that if you can't get pregnant the way God intended, then you shouldn't have kids. If that is true, then it should also be true that everyone that gets pregnant is supposed to have kids and we all know that is FAR from the truth!

I haven't used the CBE. I honestly rarely ever used OPKs. I did temping for a while and then realized my cycles were pretty regular so stopped even doing that. I'm doing the OPKs for the IUI since they recommended that I do it. I bought a pack of the cheap dip sticks (30 of them) and then a pack of the digital sticks (7)...$50!! I should just get the darn CBE thing!

AF arrived today so I'll be starting my clomid on Thursday and probably have the HSG sometime this week as well. My Dr said before CD10, but the nurse said she usually schedules then on CD6-8. I'll know more on Tuesday since my Dr and her staff are off on Mondays. THis will be a busy month. Hopefully a lucky one, too!!

I don't think I've ever been SO excited to see AF. I'm also nervous, because I know we don't plan on going any further than IUI, so I sorta feel like I'm in the "home stretch." I guess DH would do the surgery if the IUI doesn't work and then we'd see how things go. But if he has decedent sperm for the IUI and it doesn't work, then I'm thinking the surgery would probably be pointless.

Courtney...have you and your DH made any decisions about where to go from here?

My OB wants me to think about clomid....are there any bothersome side effects??

For me it was just like having bad PMS. Moody, sore, etc. Others have had more bothersome issues.

I took Clomid for 8 cycles to get pregnant with my son (unsuccessfully). I then used it for 4 more cycles trying to get pregnant again. The longer I took it, and the higher the dose, the uglier it made me. I had no physical side effects, but I was so moody and had a wicked hair-trigger temper.

I'm starting with a very low dose (50mg) since I am ovulating, just not having good ovulation according to my Dr. I'm expecting the worst re side effects, and I've already warned DH. Hopefully it won't be too bad! I'm starting on Thursday, and on Saturday my cousin is getting married. Last thing I need is to lose it in front of my entire family!

My OB put me on Aygestin(a synthetic hormone) to stop my irregular bleeding and it really messed with my body.... I got nausea, sore bb, moody, and I gained 8lbs of water weight!! So I am really cautious taking anything hormonal....

Skuttle (and anyone else), have you tried the CBE fertility monitor? I haven't but am thinking about buying one to see if it's any better than the regular OPKs I've been using. It's so pricey that I've avoided it, but when I think about what I've spent on OPks so far, I'm sure I more than paid for it already.

I used the CBE fertility monitor, and it worked well for me. I bought mine used off Ebay for $75, and ordered the sticks from Amazon (cheapest prices I found -I think it was $35/box). I realized how quickly it would add up just buying regular OPKs, and decided to go right for the monitor. I printed directions from online about how to reset the monitor, and it was just as good as new.

After I got pregnant, I was able to sell the monitor and an unused box of sticks for $100 on Craigslist, so I almost broke even. We're not planning on trying again for about 5 years, so it made more sense for me to sell it at this point, but the other nice thing is you can hang onto it to try again in the future.

skuttle- I can imagine it's reassuring to have a plan - I wish you luck with your IUI this month!

for me I only had hot flashes. That's it, no moodyness or anything, DH even said I was NICER!! lol
I do ovulate but my RE said I had some bad ovulatory cycles and clomid would fix it. I did have 2 previous m/c's before my dd was born. I took one round of clomid and that did the trick!
I wanted to add that I noticed you said "your OB wants you to think about clomid" I just want to say make sure that you are monitered and not just handed a perscription. When you are taking clomid you really need to be closely monitered throughout your cycle. This is why I saw a Reproductive Endocrinologist.

What was the purpose of the Aygestin? I mean, obviously to stop the bleeding, but what was the cause/effect of the bleeding? I'm wondering if this is something I should ask about as I also have irregular bleeding that began about a year ago and I have no idea what the cause is.

I also decided to go ahead and buy the monitor. I figure the worst thing that happens is that I get pregnant this month and then feel I wasted the money. ;) Oh if only that would be the outcome!

My HSG will be tomorrow morning. My dr is actually doing it. I start the clomid on Thursday. Nurse said I need to confirm with my dr when we'll do the first scan.

I feel like a veteran Clomid user. When I first started on them I called them my "crazy pills" because I was expecting mood swings. I take it at night to avoid stuff like that and have only noticed that I have had night sweats.

Right now I am 4 days "late" and did a HPT tonight after work but it was negative. So now I am bummed and feel really defeated because usually the tests show positive right away for me. I will try again in the morning with FMU and pray it works for us.

Hi everyone. :)

Clomid just made me very bloated and uncomfortable. I was fine the first few days, then I guess it kicked in or something. I was on 50mg.

Good luck with your test tomorrow Skuttle, we'll be thinking of you. :goodvibes

Kiki mouse, I've heard of people that don't show positive till a week late. I'm sending good thoughts and lots of babydust your way. pixiedust:

I've got nothing going on right now, but expect to be starting a new cycle any day now.

On iPhone . Just finished. Wasn't bad at all. Slight cramping but that's it. Tubes clear. Saw something on uterine wall. Dr. Not sure if do iui or wait to get better look at wall to see if can scrape out to have best possible iui. She'll let me know lAter today.

Heard back from my Dr. Not good. :( No IUI this month. She wants to do surgery to try to clear out the scar tissue. I'll need to be knocked out for the procedure, which freaks me out because I've never had that done before. It is outpatient, though. We can't do it until after this cycle is over because we can't squeeze it in this month. They are going to try to do it early next cycle so that I can do IUI next month hopefully.

I don't know if my insurance will cover the surgery. If not, I can't afford to do it soon because the nurse said it would be at least $5-6K.

I'm so upset. I was so happy, having the IUI stuff going on. And now it all came crashing down today.

I can't even do the clomid this month because of the chance of eptopic pregnancy due to the scar tissue. So I'm stuck until I have the surgery.

I'm so frustrated that this wasn't discovered sooner, but I understand that they didn't have reason to think there was something wrong with me since I've already had a baby and then my DH's results came back funky.

I'm frustrated that this has been so difficult. I thought for sure we'd proceed along with IUI, which I was super excited about. And now this.

Then she said if she can't get all of the scar tissue out with surgery, then we'd have to be referred to an RE. So I could go through all of this, and it STILL not work. :sad2: I'm starting to wonder if this just wasn't meant to be.

OB says that the bleeding was caused by not ovulating. So she put me on the Aygestin to reset my cycle...first to stop the bleeding and then restart it hoping that would reset my cycle. Anyway, I FINALLY stopped bleeding!! And I am NOT taking those nasty pills(Aygestin)... The next step is to get my Uterine Septum removed(outpatient surgery) which could be causing my miscarriages. THEN put me on Clomid to get me to ovulate.....wheww.....too many steps to have a baby...and it is not even guarenteed!!! soooo frustrating!!

Allison,

My HSG also showed scar tissue in my uterus. I suspect it was there from the D&C I had after an ectopic pregnancy. My scarring was like a string from one side of my uterus to the other, and if a placenta had attached there, there could have been terrible consequences.

The procedure I had was a hysteroscopy = they went in through my cervix with a camera and some tools. They wanted to do it laproscopically at the same time, but didn't get the consent before they knocked me out, so they just went through the cervix.

They ended up just breaking the band of tissue. It didn't take long, but I was knocked out, too. It was cool to see pictures of the inside of my uterus.

Before the procedure I had to take hormone pills for a certain period of time, and I am pretty sure I had to wait for a couple of months afterwards to get back to business. I was pretty sore for a day or two, but felt well enough to work in my garden the afternoon of the procedure.

I wonder if the scar tissue is the reason for the chemical pregnancies. It looks like you are making some progress - as scary and daunting as it seems. Lots of luck!

Hi Skuttle. I'm so sorry for the unexpected news.

Is the surgery a hysteroscopy? I had that in September to remove uterine polyps that my RE thought might be affecting implantation. I had it in ambulatory surgery. I was asleep and don't remember a thing. There was some discomfort for a couple of days, but not too bad. I would think your insurance would cover it. Even insurance that doesn't cover infertility issues, will usually cover medical procedures like a hysteroscopy or laparoscopy.

I know you are disappointed about the IUI. Once the surgery is done, you will be right back on schedule within a cycle, either with your regular gyn or a new RE.

:grouphug:

Oh Allison...I'm so glad the procedure wasn't too uncomfortable for you. Don't give up! I bet your insurance will cover the surgery. That's not a fertility procedure, I wouldn't think. I understand. Isn't the waiting and doing nothing the worst part? Being knocked out isn't so bad. You really don't even see it coming. I had to for my wisdom teeth, and if we ever have enough money, I'll have to for the egg retrieval. It was scary beforehand, but it's basically just getting an IV and then you're out.

I'm going to post at some point the pricing and what it includes for the IVF at my office and get some input on if it seems pretty standard. But for now...waiting. Oh, and I love the stupid holiday coming up this weekend. Can't even stinking go to church, which should be the most comforting place, since they almost all do baby dedications or other equally difficult things. Ugh ugh ugh.
