New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

According to guest services, it is programmed into the barcode. I'm not sure when it is programmed but that is what is done. An agreement may be made with Universal and the 3rd party reseller before the tickets are shipped to the retailer as to what price will be charged to the consumer. This price could then be programmed into the barcodes of those tickets.

Yes, I believe this is true. We have had AP's that we purchased with a military discount. They looked exactly the same but when we would put them through the old entry turnstiles, I noticed that they came up as "military AP"...and I'm sure the price is probably stored with that info as well.

Does anyone think there is a possibility that you can still upgrade tickets that were purchased before the ticket increase and this new rule has supposedly went into effect? It just seems like it would be such bad PR for Disney and all the third party sights for Disney to change the rules and not honor tickets purchased before that date. I bought mine through Orbitz and am not familiar with what their policy is, but doesn't UT say that their tickets are upgradeable?

I really like going to Disney, but it seems to be getting more and more complicated all the time. I know they owe no one anything, but if they would just communicate with their customers it would help. If I would have known, I would have bought my extra days up front. It's like the whole FP+ thing for offsiters. I am onsite at OKW in June but traveling with family staying off. Right now it's a guessing game on whether they will be able to schedule fp ahead of time.

Just tell us Disney! Even if it's bad news - just tell us for goodness sake.

Ok rant over.

I got my non-refundable tickets from Air Miles who don't offer tickets with PH. So I sure hope I can add the PH.

Edit: I have just gone to the Air Miles site and printed out where it says we can add the PH just incase they say no.

If you know what days and features you want, why wouldn't you buy from the discounter? Nothing to lose, if you change your mind you end up paying the Disney price anyway.

This is what I'm thinking. I HIGHLY doubt that you can no longer upgrade tickets purchased from authorized resellers. I think the price-bridging is what is probably being discontinued. So, if you know the exact number of days (i.e., type of ticket needed), you're still getting the discount through the reseller. If it just so happens that you upgrade for one reason or another (add a day, add a park hopper, etc.), then you will just pay Disney prices -- they won't price-bridge (thereby losing any discount you may have originally gotten through the reseller -- but not paying any more than what Disney charges). If you don't anticipate on upgrading, then I don't see any reason not to use an authorized reseller and get a discounted ticket.

Serious question... I'm not being snarky: So, you printed out the statement from your air miles site. If Disney says that the site is incorrect, what precisely do you plan on doing? I can see where you might have a complaint with your air miles site, but not where you would have one with Disney. I can post whatever I want on my website. It doesn't make it true. :confused3

Is that the same site that mentions visiting Pleasure Island? It doesn't matter what you print out from some website, if Disney says no, they say no.

Thanks for clarifying that. We always buy exactly what we want and barring unforeseen changes in travel plans, this shouldn't have any effect on people like us.

I've bought the tickets with the biggest discount before and upgraded from there. Might need to change that strategy moving forward, and buy exactly what I need.

Great:eek:. I bought a 4 day PH+WPFM ticket from Undercover tourist. I wanted to add days when I'm there since the amount of days I need depends on how many times I'll attend mnsshp. Bought the ticket now because the €/$ exchange rate was pretty good. If I had know they plan a change like that I'd have bought from the disney website. It would be a bummer if I couldn't add more days to my ticket just because I saved like 25$ by ordering through undercover tourist. Might send the ticket back and uy from Disney if the policy really comes into effect.

WRONG! Disney does NOT know what YOU paid for it. They know what THEY sold it for. Do you think that Maple Leaf or UnderCover Tourist are selling you the tickets for what they paid? Or, do you think they may be a business and are charging you some middle ground so they can pay their costs and make a bit of profit?

All Ears isn't saying no price bridging, and what would be the point of upgrading if you have to cover the difference between what Disney sold the ticket to a reseller for and what you bought the ticket from the reseller for? Most likely, you will lose money. All Ears is saying they won't upgrade at all.

Disney ticket prices have doubled since 2005 Disney room rates have tripled. Disney entertainment has been cut. Disney park cleanliness has gone down. Attractions have been cut (although promises of new things are coming). Lines have increased. FP riding abilities have been cut by two-thirds. This is the straw. Disney has talked me out fully. Our Thanksgiving trip had already been modified to less Disney and adding in other central Florida attractions. Next trip I had thought would be in another 3-4 years (instead of annual as in the past). Now I'm thinking never. It's not that I've been priced out by being unable to afford it, but I've been priced out by lack of value. IF this is indeed true.

Disneyland knows. And considering what has happened when you get a cm who doesn't know to bridge, where they try to charge based on what you paid, wdw knows, too.

I'm not worried a out any of this. A guest relations cm said its not true. A dis'er upgraded to APs while keeping the discount, so the no-bridging cha be doesn't seem to be true.

Sites have gotten it wrong before.

I would want to ask UCT about this. As one responder here (and everyone who read her epic thread a few years back) UCT has contacts at wdw and cares a great deal about these issues. They would absolutely want to be I top of this and could clarify it on a more official level more easily than any of us.

No it doesn't mention Pleasure Island.

I highly doubt they will contest this as it is listed in the Terms and Conditions.

This is going to be a huge problem. Take it from someone who has probably won a medal and gone down in DIS history as having the worst upgrade experience ever.

Disney has no clue how much YOU paid to the authorized seller. They only know the wholesale price that the 3rd party seller paid for the ticket- which in many cases is a difference of at least $100.

So you'd not only lose your $15/$20/$35 discount, you'd be paying $100+ more than if you had just bought the tickets from Disney.

This is really bad, if it's true. We bought 5 day tickets from Orbitz, but now have extended our trip and will need 7 days. I figured it would be no big deal, and we could just add the extra days for roughly $10 per person, per day, like we did on our last trip. But if it's going to end up that I have to buy new two day tickets for all of us for those additional days, then we're just going to go to Universal for those days instead. I was already on the fence about trying out Universal for those days anyway, and this would make the decision for us.

Are those Disney's Terms & Conditions? If not, it won't make a difference. Disney only has to adhere to their own and not those which are written on another company's website.

I hope this isn't true. We were possibly going to add another day to our (guess we won't if this is true and Disney won't get us in a park on another day). I was also going to add DQ but wasn't sure how many of us were going so I was going to wait until we got there. Uggggh!

I am sure Air Miles and Disney have some sort of contract and it's not just something someone put on a website.

If they don't honor it, I am sure Air Miles will have a lot of very unhappy customers. And they will discontinue offering the tickets.

I am not going to worry to much about it until I hear this is for sure and not just a rumor.

And if it is true, Disney won't only lose the money I would be giving them for a park hopper, but I specifically booked at the Beach Club so I could go to Epcot often. If I can't hop, then I will rebook at Pop (1/3 of the price of the Beach Club) and only do one park a day. It will be a different touring style than I am used to, but it won't ruin my trip.

Again, I am sure Air Miles and Disney have some sort of contract that they (both Disney and Air Miles) have to honor.

And as I said, it won't ruin my trip, but Disney will get a lot less money from me.

Oh no hope this doesn,t turn out to be true. :scared1: going to follow this site. we purchased some of our tickets from UT months ago because we are taking a big family trip for DD 's sweet 16 in august. In order to budget I was buying tickets as I come up with the cash for them. Anyway - I got 3 of the tickets as 7 day park hoppers because I had planned on leaving earlier on our depart day but when our airfare days were finally posted the latest evening flight home was significantly cheaper so now we have a whole day on last day. So I emailed UT about changing tickets & they said no problem & would wave the restock fee because we were ordering new 8 day from them (this was last week) the very next day we got a new email from them saying they couldn't take them back because they now carry the new chip tickets & don' t carry the old tickets anymore BUT that there was no problem with upgrading at the park! I had since gotten 2 more tickets but they are for the right days (8) since this was our new plan. I don't know what to do if I can't upgrade at park as a 1 day ticket for 3 people would cost me an extra $300 roughly. I have been buying from UT for years because of their policies & how reputable they are -I trust them. Hate to lose out on a whole day in park because of this & now some of my tickets are the 8 day hoppers so I will have wasted money on those ! Hope someone has more information on this.

Yes, I agree with you stargazer. It has been established fact that the resellers can sell the tickets for whatever amount they want, it is not controlled or even known by Disney.* I think we will just have to wait for confirmation (or not) on what's really going on before panicking.

*not to say they couldn't change get that going forward - having resellers report their sales prices back to Disney- but that seems unlikely to me.

My resort confirmation from WDW reservations for a package trip, shows that I got 2 vouchers for Mini Golf and 2 vouchers for Disney Quest. 2 people on our reservation. If they're still doing that, and you reserved a package, maybe you won't have to worry about purchasing DQ.
