New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

Current Disney policy is as I stated in my post. There has been no official notice from Disney about a change of upgrade policy. When there have been official Disney policy changes in the past, this website had the info that day or the very next day. UCT cannot confirm what you will get from Disney in the future. That can only be decided by Disney.

One rumor of potential change is to give third party tickets the gate value of the ticket based on its original sale when doing a ticket upgrade at a WDW ticketing facility. Does that mean the date UCT bought the tickets from Disney at wholesale or the date UCT sold the ticket to a buyer at retail? In your post, you write that the gate price would be from the date you bought your tickets. However, Disney does not know when UCT sold you or me a specific ticket. I think we all need to hear from Disney officially, the sooner the better.

Yes, but Disney isn't exactly going to put out a press release on the change. And the CM who kept this board up-to-date on ticketing procedures hasn't been heard from in months. So when one of Disney's business partners confirms there's been a change, it's probably okay to put some trust in that.

Actually, CF hasn't posted on the DIS since January. I hope all is well.

Sorry for the delay in updating - my schedule doesn't allow me much time online. My friend was not allowed to upgrade her tickets from UT - she wanted to add hopping. She tried at all 4 parks with the same answer from them all and one cm had to check with a supervisor because he didn't know and the supervisor said no. She's just using them as base tickets as she originally bought them.

Someone else had also asked -

She bought them last month and yes she used one day on them before trying to upgrade as she was told she had to do that first by UT when she bought them.

Well obviously something is going on!!! Did she contact UT?

Maybe she could contact UT for help, but at this point, she's probably ready to give up! Also, maybe she could try at DTD.

This makes me super nervous. Has anyone had success adding additional days to your ticket since all this new "information"??? I leave Sunday and need to know what to do with my undercover tourist tickets, either save them for later or use them and take a chance!

I know this is a pain for people who just purchased tickets prior to the latest price increase, hoping to save a few bucks. But for some of us it's a little more.

I still have a 6 day hopper I purchased in 2011 for a trip I was planning then but had to cancel. I originally had two such passes, but went to WDW in 2012, and on my first day entered Epcot, proceeded directly to guest relations and upgraded to an AP. Price bridging happened as I expected. I was happy and took two more trips on that ticket (including during Food and Wine) and dropped what I consider serious coin in the parks.

For my remaining ticket, I was thinking I would go some time next year and use it - maybe during Food and Wine again. In the meantime I want to go other places for vacation, but I have that ticket, so I want to use it eventually. 6 days is kind of a short trip to WDW for me, especially if I'm not planning another trip any time soon, so I was thinking of adding a day or two.

If I went today, there is a $102 difference between the gate price when I bought that ticket and today's gate price for the same ticket. It will only be more later. I will not pay that for the privilege of spending an additional day, and more money, in the Disney parks. I mean - $10 for a hamburger?!? Even the ballpark doesn't charge that much.

I really think if this is the new policy, they are being "pennywise and pound foolish" if I have that expression correct.

Not sure whether this helps or not. I purchased resident discovery 3day ticket through my employer discount program website, I thought I got a deal, but I ended up finding the same price on DWD official website after purchasing. Anyway I called WDW to find out whether I can upgrade to 4day or weekday select AP, the answer is yes.

So when one of Disney's business partners confirms there's been a change, it's probably okay to put some trust in that.

But what change?

I'd put more stock in the answer given by UT (et al) if:

A- There was at least SOME attribution (to the Disney source) for the info.
(If not a name of a person, at least a department name.)

B- The answer was actually something that could be DONE by a front-line ticket CM.

As it stands now, the CM at the ticket booth could not possibly know the DATE on which a guest had actually purchased a third party ticket.
Since that date is crucial to figuring the upgrade cost (if we are to believe the "new rules" we are discussing,) and since it is an impossible-to-accomplish task... I think the whole idea is fishy and I can't shake off the thought that it
is not the final true answer.

C- We did not have posts from other guests who have been able to recently upgrade with the long-time
SOP of the price-bridge to the CURRENT WDW gate price as part of the transaction.

All of the above is tempered by the fact that at WDW, anything is POSSIBLE, logical or not.

.

But they know when the reseller bought the ticket and that is what matters. UT is saying that the guest will get credit for the gate price of the ticket at the time the ticket was purchased from Disney.

That's not what was posted by MouseSavers- in this thread HERE.

Pull quote...
There is a small change to bridging policy - they will no longer bridge a ticket to the current gate price. They will bridge the price to the gate price as of the date you bought the ticket.

Also, the date that a reseller bought a batch of tickets from Disney is not something that the GUEST can know,
and if that's the case, the guest will have no idea if the ticket CM is giving the proper amount in the upgrade transaction.

But what change?
.

I think, many of us are a bit hypersensitive at the moment. There was a time, that I would shrug this off. Now, I get a sick feeling, this may be another undesirable "enhancement". Although, it makes no sense...

The issue is this: for years, guests have been treated inconsistently by CMs when it comes to price bridging. If you do a search for the term "bridge" or "bridging" you'll see the issues DISboarders have been having for years. It had nothing to do with what Disney's policy is, but rather how/whether a given CM is trained on the issue. There was one report from last summer where a DISboarder was told she couldn't price bridge her ticket by a manager who had been working for Disney for THIRTEEN YEARS! In almost every case, though, the guest was able to get their upgrade at the correct price eventually, but it's always been a game of CM roulette.

Then throw into the confusion a posting by a site (Allears) that typically has fairly reliable information saying bridging is ending, combined with the disappearance of the DISboard's resident ticketing CM expert, and people getting upset and calling DISney and getting conflicting answers, and then using all this to declare/decide that the policy has changed. I'm sorry, I don't believe it. We have the summer case of a DISboarder, who I believe dealt with six different CMs who all told her the same thing (no bridging, even back then) and were all wrong, which is no different than the friend of a DISboarder's experience that is being relayed in this post. We have no idea if the policy is really changing, or if that person is just getting untrained CM after untrained CM, which is exactly what happened to another board member just a few months ago! It is possible that NOTHING has changed, and regardless of how many people call Disney to try to confirm, until we get an actual CM in here who can verify that they have seen an updated policy or bulletin, then I'm not going to believe that anything has changed.

I swear I remember Cheshire Figment once posting the exact citation in the ticketing manual (or whatever it is), telling someone on the board where to tell a CM to look if they didn't know how to bridge tickets, and I've looked exhaustively for that post and can't find it. Does anyone else remember that?

Yes.
He posted this info several times.
I may have even saved the info.
I'll check my files.

Copy this sequence.

Ask the CM to log onto The Hub. Go to

Work
Ticketing
Processes and Business Rules
Upgrade Guide to WDW Tickets (near the bottom of the page)
Promo Package Tickets (about halfway down)

In that sequence. It will get to the exact information they need.

I had it printed and would take it with me to the parks... but I cannot find it tonight! :) Thanks Robo!

There is a date printed on the ticket I purchased from UT in 2011.
