Kat, i'm glad to hear school is going well for your kids!

Our Bear sure does get around.....

Green-Colored Polar Bears Puzzle Visitors at Japanese Zoo

Green-colored polar bears are drawing questions from puzzled visitors at a Japanese zoo.

Three normally white polar bears at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in central Japan changed their color in July after swimming in a pond with an overgrowth of algae.

The sight of green polar bears has prompted many questions from visitors concerned about whether the animals are sick or carrying mold, zoo official Masami Kurobe said Sunday.

"Visitors seem to be shocked by the color, and we are asked every day why they are so green," he said.

High temperatures in July and August and less-frequent water changes because of the zoo's conservation efforts caused an algae growth in the bear pond and safety moat, Kurobe said.

Algae that enters hollow spaces in the bears' fur is hard to rinse off, he said.

The bears are expected to return to their natural color when the algae growth subsides in November, Kurobe said.

Yay for Chris!!!:goodvibes

THANKS!

Stormie is a cute name for the Kitten, but I think it should have been named PD!:rolleyes1
:scared1: :lmao:
Well Em made it through orientation week without too many bumps and we're pleased with that. In fact she came home to see her counselor on Friday afternoon and begged to be taken back for the rest of the weekend (OMG not at all what I expected from her) Meal times are beginning to bother her as I think i spoiled her and she is not sure how to cook much beyond Kraft dinner & tuna!! I bought her a "1st timer cookbook" and we will look at it together this weekend. Every Friday she will be coming come to see her worker (none of us wanted to start with a new person at school) so we will see how long it will last before she wants to spend every weekend back at school with her roomies?!?!?

She had her 1st classes yesterday and found them both scary, today she has had one and really enjoyed it and thinks the prof is a riot. Cross your fingers and toes that all of this continues working out for all of us.
:woohoo: I'm glad it's going well! Hope it continues!:wizard:
Jacqueline, great to see that it is going so well for EM.

Nancy, ya never know, I fully expect Meag to manage it, really animals are her first love (other than Mommy) and the one long term interest for her. She never played with baby dolls (she has one, Thomas the anatomically correct newborn :confused3 ), but she has a TON of stuffed animals, animal books, animal figurines, etc.

:scared1: :sad2: :confused3 :lmao:

Sounds like all is going well for the kids Kat!! Good luck with the homework...althought it's probably done by now!

Homework is ok, for both kids. Still not much. Jeff got overwhelmed in class today as it was moving to fast for him. working in a small group in what he termed a timed event. They were catagorizing things in Science. He may have been ok, bu tone of the boys started teasing him. so trying to not get further behind, keeping his mind on track & trying not to lose it getting teased got the better of him. He called me, with teachers permission, and Chip & I got him calmed down. She, the sped teacher, wasn't in there at the time but the regular teacher & aide were, just helping out outher kids. The teacher will work it out and no more calls. So hard haivng a "troubled" kid cause you want to help out so much, but know he has to go it on his own some. Argh pirate: ... mommie guilt!

Oh and Stormie is so named cause she is a Calico, black with the gold coming thorugh underneath, like sun coming out of a Stormy sky. I hope to get copied of some pictures of her that Chip took. Her poor little tail stump.

Kat and Jacqueline...good kidlet news!:thumbsup2 Glas things are going well! I know that takes alot of stress off each of you!

Dani~ good to see you back! How's school this year?

SO everyone....here is the ltest update on my life!

Most of you may remember that last October Winnie sprained her thumb at soccer practice...she missed a week of Gym and SOccer.

Than in January she slipped i the shower and sprained her knee....missed a week or so of basketball.

In APril she tore her meniscus at track practice and needed to have surgery and then was in Physical therapy until the middle of July!

Well yesterday, it was an extremely rainy day here. She was at school and was walking into one of the buildings for a class, when she slipped on a wet floor and fell. She reached back with her arms to break the fall, and the nurse called me to say she needed to go to the doctor because she couldn't bend her fingers and had alot of pain in her wrist and hand.

So I went right into Mommy mode, called the doctor's office and talked to a nurse about whether we should come to the doctor or directly to the ER. SHe said bring her right in to our office, we'll have someone look at her right away. So I called DH told him to go get WInnie (DH works at a hospital directly across the street from the high school) and I would meet them at doctor's office. I was very worried but being a very good mom about handling all this. Well I got into the car and I just started laughing. This is absolutely absurd, that she has had 4 injuries within a year. I could not stop laughing.

So I met them at the doctor's office, where they immediately took her in and checked out her wrist, hand and arm. Doctor said everything felt like it was ok, but did some tests where Winnie had to close her eyes and then her poked her gently with a paperclip, sometimes with a sharp end and sometimes with the curve of the clip. She was supposed to distinguish which poles were sharp end and which were curved end. Well she couldn't even feel the poes below her elbow, but could feel them and distinguish them above her elbow! SO Dr. called ER and said we're sending her down to you. They took xrays at the ER which show no broken bones. However there is apparently one tiny littel bone called the Scaphoid bone in which a fracture may not show in the first set of xrays. However, it can be one of the most serious injuries and when the did a physical exam of her hand and wrist, the sections where she was feeling intense pain were consistent with this type of injury! SO they put her hand in what they called a splint, but what I would think of more as a soft cast, and we go to the orthopedist tomorrow for him to do a check. Hopefully it is only a sprain or bruising, but who knows! If it is the Scaphoid, there is surgery followed by a 12-14 week recovery period! That would take her out of the remainder of soccer season and basketball would be out as well!

I told her it is good that she gets most of these injuries at school, or social services would be camping out at our house!

Well, I guess we are all getting used to these injuries... everyone's immediate reaction is "oh are you ok honey?" followed by uncontrollable laughter. WInnie is even laughing about this through her pain! NSalz laughed as did TOTP (Winnie's best friend!). SHe did go to soccer practice after the ER yesterday, to watch and learn, even the coach laughed when she saw WInnie. SHe's getting a reputation!

Doing great :) I love my electives, but schoolwork is much. Too much!!

I know how she feels with hurting herself; I was the same way last year. Ouch about surgery. My friend has to get surgery on her knee, she was sliding in volleball and she messed it up big time because it was a day before they'd get knee pads. She had to get it put back into place, but it's still messed up, so she can't dance either :( I miss her so much!
Other than that, life is good. We're going to Disneyland in 65 days!

Flyby, but wanted to catch up real quick....

Nope, VA I don't think so. Only Dis Bears are green!:woohoo:

PD, aside from giggling at Winnie's string of bad luck you must be worried sick about her! I sure hope everything turns out ok, nothing worse than watching our kids hurt and knowing we can't really do anything for them. Give her a "northern hug" from the DUCKIE
