Hi All,
I am looking for a new point & shoot camera. I currently own Kodak Easy Share c533. It has been a great camera. But now I need something that has a better zoon. Oh yea, I am not that technical.

But I would like something to....
...bring to Disney in the fall
...shoot son's sports events
...take holiday pics, etc.

I would like the optical zoom to be at least 10. This way I can take good pictures from the football bleachers. Last season I was not able to get any close up pictures of son while he played football.

Thanks.

I picked up the Panasonic Lumix tz5 as a backup to my DSLR and love it. I ended up using it more days than the DSLR in Disney because it was easy to just toss into the backpack. Photos were very sharp.

If you are planning pictures of a night football game, do not expect too much. That is a challenging situation for $1K+ cameras. You will have to bump the ISO way up (probably the highest) and that will mean lots of noise in your shots. You really need daylight with that kind of camera to capture action shots. If this is your primary reason for upgrading, I personally would recommend against it.

Thanks for responding.

My DS is only 6 so no night ball games for us. I read good reviews on the Lumix TZ5 and nikon coolpix p90. I am going to best buy today to look around. Do yall have any opinions about either of these?

Thanks again for responding.

I have my eye on the Sony DSC-HX1. It has a special mode that takes 10 pictures/second for sports. It also has a built in HD video recorder. I think the zoom is around 20x. It was released a couple of months ago for $500 but I found it online for $415 (no tax, free shipping) which makes it really tempting.

I really like the Panasonic cameras. I have an FZ28 and several of my friends have TZ3's. The image stabilization is really nice. You really can get better shots with good stabilization. The TZ5 is being replaced by the TZ7/ZS3. The price of the TZ5 is a lot lower. Amazon has the silver for $213 and the other colors for $299. The ZS3/TZ7 is going for $399 at Amazon. The ZS3/TZ7 is a 12x lens, a really nice lcd screen and it has HD recording. Most reviewers are not impressed with the HD recording so don't put a lot of emphasize on that part of the camera.
