New pirate makeover experience!

We are wanting to surprise our son with a visit to the pirate league, but we are wondering should we purchase a costume for him prior to the trip or should we wait until we get there?

Does anyone know of any sites/links that show what the costume choices look like? We have seen some costumes on ebay, but are really interested in knowing what the ones there look like. Any help would be appreciated.

My experience has only been with the BBB for my daughter. We have always purchased a costume and accessories at the Disney Store or other retailer before going. The costumes at Disney are a little better quaility but much more expensive. My daughter is usually walking around in it for a couple days and it tends to get ripped, stepped on, dirty.

I also would interested in what the pirate costumes look like at Disney.

Do you get the photos taken at The Pirates League on a photopass card so you can add them to the photopass CD later on? Not sure what is done at BBB Boutique.

Afraid not - you will get to take home either a single picture or three pictures all from the Treasure Cache (based on the package you purchase), but no photopass card.

I've been listening to this request!!!! I went to the shop today and took pictures. My camera batteries died (figures) so I took them on my two-year old cell phone. Sorry the quality isn't the best, but at least it's something!!

Still no image of the Pirate Wench dress, it's not available to the public yet. But it's essentially a pink and black princessy dress.

And as a bonus... here's the front door to The Pirates League - which legend says was originally an East India Trading Company stockroom that Pirates took over and turned into their recruitment center!

Thanks for all the great information you continue to provide and share with us! I absolutely can't wait to book this for my little pirate at the end of the month! :cool1: As another poster has mentioned, it'd be nice to say hello to you if you're there in Sept/Oct when we go! :) I can't wait to see the official launch!

Great pictures, thanks! I have my daughter booked for the Empress package or whatever they're calling it. I bought her the Elizabeth Swan outfit from Disney Store for like $10. How much do you want to bet she'll want the pink and black princess-y outfit??? Figures. I'm such a pushover for this stuff too...guess it lets me relive childhood a bit!

Thanks for all the info!

No problem! Any more questions out there? Love to help!

Aargh! And we don't mind that one bit!!! :rotfl:

We pirates appreciate any treasure you want to throw our way!

iv'e got one seeing as your asking. |Can I buy the hook and acesseries without buying the costume?? I bought ch for 10 from disney.com but no acesseries

I have been reading this thread all day and just booked it for my two daughters, aged 5 and 9 when we go in Aug. I just clicked on your blog, Brenna..I couldn't believe it when I read your name...my youngest is a Brenna as well!! It's not a very common name so I think that's pretty cool. I also think it would be pretty cool if Brenna could get made over by another Brenna!! If it's not asking too much when we get closer to the date maybe we could ask for you if you are there that day? I have it booked for Aug 29th at 4pm. PM me if you think it would be okay? What a coincidence?

I love meeting more Brennas! You're right - we are a rare bread!!!

If I am working that day you are definitely welcome to request me! As Pirates we rotate through four different positions, but I may be able to request the makeup application specifically that day. I am putting in my schedule request next Monday so I should find out that day when I'll have my days off!

I just reread your date... I'm actually in a wedding that day so I'm afraid I will not be working - SORRY!

We're booked for Aug 26, hope to see you there too! I love hearing about the girls wanting to be pirates. DD9 loves this much more than the BBB.

I know this may be "rude" to some to ask, my apologies...but I'd really like to know a good tip amount for the make-over people here and at BBB. Anyone with suggestions (Would love to hear from you on this Brenna...btw I don't have any children named Brenna only because I told a friend how much I loved the name, and she STOLE IT for her little girl! :lmao: Oh, and /jedimindtrick You want to work Tuesday, July 21 around 10:30 am /jedimindtrick!!!)

I'm sure Berlioz will chime in shortly, but when I took my DD to BBB last year they WOULD NOT, no matter how much I tried, take a tip from me. And believe me, I can be persuasive, ;) but they were insistent that they would not take the tip.

I thought I remembered hearing in the last few months that this policy had changed, though. I'm thrifty (okay I'm a cheapskate) but I do really think that if someone goes out of their way with a positive attitude and lots of attention to make the experience more special for your child, they really do deserve a tip, just as we'd tip wait staff.

Em, I completely agree and hope the rules have changed. My feeling on tipping is, if I want to, they should be able to accept it without feeling their job is in danger or that they will get in trouble.

Oh well...it would have been cool, but a wedding is pretty important, I guess...:thumbsup2.
Thanks again for all your help and info on this thread, it totally changed my mind on this experience...my girls are gonna be sooo surprised!!!:yay:

I'm not sure when the policy changed, but yes the Boutique does accept treasure (tips) and so will TPL. However, we're not sure what to expect since it's more customary to tip at a hair salon and not to get your face painted. All of the Pirate Masters will split any treasure you give one master, but I really don't have an amount to suggest. After we're open for awhile I can let you know what the average seems to be - even a dollar is more than nothing, so really anything would be appreciated.

Not that you need to give treasure at all - because it's NOT necessary by any means - but we can only accept treasure in the form of cash, it cannot be added to a Credit Card.
