New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

HollyJoy, thanks for the heads up on the BRU clearance! I've been meaning to get down to our BRU this week, so now I've got even more incentive to go.

Owen is a skinny and long baby, but he's eating like a little piglet. DH calls him "Mr. Chow" (we have a chinese restaurant chain out here called "Mr. Chau's" so it's also a little play on words). But this kid is still a little string bean; I swear there's hardly an ounce of fat on him. :confused3 He's getting too long for some of his 0-3 clothes, but they hang on him width-wise. Fortunately, I've got a bunch of onesie extenders, so those are starting to come in handy. And he has the most enormous feet! His toes are so long, they almost look like little fingers! Neither DH or I are tall - I'm under 5', and DH is just barely 5'10", so we're wondering where this long, skinny child came from! :)

I thought about buying those onesie extenders.. do you like them? I'm about to send an email to Gerber, complaining about their onesies!!! I have two packs of plain white ones, and 4 of the onesies have completely torn, down by the snaps!! They were gifts, so I didn't waste any money, but still! I find the Carters brand to be much better. Anyone else finding this problem? Amanda is outgrowing her clothing in length too.. funny though, the 3 month clothing, she still swims in!

I like the extenders - Owen has some really cute onesies that are still loose on him width wise, but are just a hair too snug length-wise, and the extenders mean he can keep wearing those without having to swim in the next size up. I swear I would lose the baby in the bigger clothes! :rotfl:

The only trick is that not all onesie snaps are the same size, so you have to make sure you get the pack of extenders that has 2 each of 3 different sizes of snaps. Someone gave me a set of extenders that had 4 of all the same size snaps, and they only work on a few of Owen's onesies.

A friend of mine is a sewing genius, and she now makes onesie extenders and sells them at craft fairs. She said if you know how to operate a sewing machine, they're reasonably easy to make and you can customize them however you want. Just make sure the snaps are the right size for the onesies you need to extend! Since they're hidden under other clothing, they don't have to be pretty, but she makes them in all kinds of prints and colors out of scrap fabric left over from her quilting projects.

Omigod that is the cutest pic EVER!!! Grayson is such a cutie-pie!!! :goodvibes

Ditto Holly.....I only buy the Carters brand. They don't shrink, last so much longer, and the snaps are nice and strong. :thumbsup2

I think i'm 2 weeks pregnant cause i'm on my honeymoon and i had a feeling cause my aunt flow was the week before my wedding. I tried over 5 brands of pregnancy tests all say pregnant. This is my first child am so excited am going to doc to confirm on friday. Hubby wants a boy lol I want a girl. He praying for twins so can hopefully have 1 of each. I just have to watch my health cause I'm considered a high risk pregnancy with my mixed connective tissue disease. I just want healthy baby.

Congratulations Lisa!!!!!!!!!

I love all the pictures of the little ones. They are all so sweet and precious :)

Dom is also tall for his weight. I think he was in the 75% for height and around 50% for weight. The doc told me he was 25% weight to height ratio. But he's been that way since birth. So we also area dealing with the too long or too baggy problem. I guess that doesn't bother me near as much though. The issue though, is more of the pants I want him to wear. I swear I will need a belt but they don't make them for babies :rotfl:

I also am not a fan of Gerber outfits either. First they do run small IMO. Also I have had several tear at the seams as well. Fortunately most of the clothing we got from people were other brands and other types of items.

Starwatcher, congratulations!!! Just so you won't be a bit "off" when you go to the doctors to talk, most do pregnancy in weeks starting from the first day of your last period. So if they say you are 4 weeks now, don't be worried, just how it is done since every one can ovulate differently.

:jumping1: :welcome: Welcome starwatcher! :welcome: :jumping1:

Congratulations on your wedding as well! :goodvibes Please let us know when your doctor confirms and gives you a due date!

Hi ladies! My OB appointment went well today. I saw a different OB, who I don't click with in the slightest -- our conversations were awkward, we had nothing in common... but she is approaching my pregnancy as if I were having twins (go figure!) so I'll take it. It was by far the best appointment I've had yet, even if we didn't talk about Disney, etc like old friends! We of course have our Level II on Tuesday, and are on every 4 week visits this one more time. After that (starting around 24 weeks) I will be seen every 2 weeks, and will have an ultrasound every 4 to start. What a novel idea, to follow the standards of care for a particular field.....

The other news that I always look forward to hearing (just so you know, about 50% of the time that would be sarcasm, the other 50% I'm totally serious! ) ..... at 18.5 weeks, I'm measuring just OVER 28 weeks! I was 3 weeks ahead, then 5.... now about 10! Eek! Still, it makes me feel so much better about how many secondary issues I'm having this "early" (anemia, {ironically} low blood sugar and blood pressure, to name a few). I would be 3/4 finished with a singleton pregnancy! As it stands, they are still looking at 37 weeks as a goal, but this OB was much more realistic about my body frame and the ability to get there -- what it might take, the fact that it really might not happen, etc. Maybe my previous OB didn't want to "scare me", but I'm a healthcare professional for crying out loud. I already know these things, I'd love it if my doctor would pretend he/she does, too!

So all in all a good visit. I have finally gained just about 5 pounds which was her "requirement", so no Boost/Ensure just yet! ( ) I'm still to drink this nasty electrolyte drink stuff for calories, hydration, iron, etc and will likely start an additional iron supplement soon, but otherwise things are stabilizing some. An apparent kidney stone is not that, but a kidney infection -- somewhat more concerning on the surface, but MUCH easier to treat, thank goodness! Now if the nausea and vomiting would go away for good, and if i could sleep an hour or two here or there!

So there you have it. The entire recap of my appointment, whether you wanted it or not! :rotfl:

I'm new here. :) I just found out yesterday I'm pregnant (from a home pregnancy test) for the first time! I'll be going to the doctor to confirm this Friday morning. If all goes well, I'll have a baby around October 22nd (or so the due date calculators say). :goodvibes

I'm planning a disney world trip for the end of July, and I plan on keeping it, but it will be interesting starting my third trimester in the heat and humidity!

Leo's adorable!!!

Welcome all newcomers!!

tink2020 I'm glad you had a good appointment. Can't wait for your U/S on Tuesday!!

Awww, Leo is absolutely precious!!! What a cutie!!!!

Welcome Suzie, I do hope everything goes well for you!

Tink, I am glad to hear that your appt went well. I hope that you'll continue to get good medical care from that group. Though I admit, I would find it odd not to see the same doctor myself every single time I would go in. I love and respect my OB/GYN a lot!

Congrats to all the newcomers!

I love all the pictures. Everyone has the cutest babies. :cutie:

I am now 37 weeks and had my appointment yesterday. She didn't check me again, so I have no idea if I dilated more. She did say things are looking good and it could be any time now. I am terribly uncomfortable so I am hoping for sooner rather than later. I have another appointment Monday and they will do another ultrasound to check fluid levels. I am so nervous about labor, but we are so excited to meet him. I was hoping for a Valentine's Day baby, but that doesn't look promising. So, I am just waiting...

well hopefully today is the day!!!:thumbsup2

I had my weekly apt and I'm now 4 cm and she stripped my membranes for me ( which put me into labor w/ dd). I've been having small contractions since my apt. so I hope they will start to get stronger and closer this evening. woohoo!!

:cool1: Go for a walk if you can! It's the only thing that really helped my contractions become more intense. One walk around the block and I was ready to go to the hospital, after having had my water broke for almost 9 hours and sitting around the house with minimal contractions!
