New Military Discounts update

Reading thru this thread I get the idea that the discount isn't available for all resorts. Is this true? I realize that they probably only have so many rooms per day per hotel but it would seem to me that if you call on the very first day the discount becomes official you should be able to get the hotel you want. I have rez at SoG for June 1-11 (Junior Suite) and would like to jump into two rooms at POR if the 35% discount is available. Probably wouldn't take advantage of the discount tickets since the 10 day ticket available thru SoG is cheaper than 2 4-day discount tix.

I personally have never had a problem getting the resort I want with the military discount, unless you are booking very close to your travel dates. :thumbsup2

Not for AD only but no matter what the military member has to go to be able to activate the tickets....but that being said if you have your military ID you being his spouse can go and get the tickets and room, as long as you have your ID, he doesn't have to be there.

Qualify if you have this: Honorably discharged veterans with 100 percent Service-connected disability. ID is DD Form 1173 or DD Form 2765

I just got home from a 8 night 9 day trip using Military Discount. My step-dad is a military vet but he did not go (not interested in WDW but wanted us to enjoy it), my mom otoh, did go and she is the spouse dependent. We got a 35% discount on our cabin at FW and my mom bought our Military Tix at SOG. The cast members there were emphatic that only my mom needed to be there to activate, not my step dad himself. We did two 4 day passes for me, two 4 day passes for DH, one 4 day pass for mom, and then 8 day MYW park hopper tix for the kids bc that was cheaper. We had no problem activating at all, just needed step dad's bday and mom (his dependent) present.

I think the Military Discount info can be a bit confusing so I wanted to share my experience. It was flawless and everyone was very patient with all of our questions (and we had A LOT :rotfl2:)! :thumbsup2

That's ok - you started to confuse me! :lmao:

Wednesday is the "unofficial" word of when the "official" announcement will come out. *crossed fingers*

I almost called to make a change on my ressie this weekend, but don't want them to discover that I have the "secret code".... I'll just wait and make my changes after it actually comes out... :lmao:

I also have one booked, and in looking over my confirmation, the rep has my kids' ages all wrong. :/ So, I need to call and change that (should be 11, 9, 7 at the time of the trip...and they have 10, 10, 6...no clue how that happened exactly). So, I'm waiting until it is official to call to fix it...it should be a difference in price also because of the dining plan.

It honestly depends on what they release. They release a certain # of rooms/views at the resort for the discount to my understanding .

I may sound stupid, is the Military discount for active military only? Does the person in the military acturally have to go, of could their family just go? My husband is 100% disabled Vietnam Vet and just wondering if I would be eligible.

We don't have the details yet so we don't know but the last 2 years was for active duty and retired.

The link you posted is for an entirely different program offered by SOG not Disney.

You are correct, it is not available for every date at every resort. I booked for this past May right when it was released last year and when i inquired, YC was not available at all, BC only had one room type available, and AKL only had a couple of room types. I had no issue though booking the Poly, which had pretty nearly room type available. This was for early May, not a particular busy time period. It's not a blanket "sale" like you might find at a retail store. HTH.:thumbsup2

I believe in the past more than one room can be booked using the military rate. Does anyone know if this is still true? I have 3 rooms at Poly booked for Oct 14-20th. I am hoping to save 40% on all. :goodvibes

Right as long as the spouse or someone in your party has military ID you are good to go!

Can I preface this by saying that I'm usually really good at keeping up with how all these types of things work? But this has me so confused. First, I DID know there was a SOG resort but I had NO idea about other military discounts at other hotels OR for tickets, etc. DH is an Air Force veteran so this whole thing has peaked my interest.

We are going to WDW next April. It will be my kids first trip and my inlaws are coming with us and have already booked the hotel with their DVC. But what I'm interested in now is park tickets.

So... I'm sure it's been answered a few times but I'm still confused... sorry. As my boss will say to me sometimes, okay, please, like I'm a 6 year old.

1) Is there a military discount on tickets only for Veterans (not active duty)? Or I realize this can be released so... if not released for next April, could it be???
2) DH doesn't have a military ID but does have a valid DD-214. Is that valid identification?
3) IF all the above is yes, then we have to purchase these tickets at SOG? Do they have to be reserved? Can they run out?

Thanks everyone!!!

I'm not 100% sure on being Veteran, my DH is still active duty, but you can find out more from disneymilitarysales.com or if you google disney military tips there is a guy who runs an amazing website to check out on that.

The tickets for next April are $156 (or so I hear) for the 4-day park hopper and I think they put a limit of 6 during the life of the promotion on them (not 100% sure since they havent released it yet). You can get the tickets right at the gate of any of the parks, or I am sure SOG also. You don't need to reserve them, and they don't run out. You can also add the water parks fun and more option for a little extra $$.

sorry I could only partially answer your question- but I am sure someone else will fill in what I missed or just go to those websites I mentioned!

The answer is dependent on your husbands status. My suspicions based on your post is that he is a prior service member who did not retire (example: Served standard 4 year tour and got out). The official Disney site says this for eligibility:

"This offer is for active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard."

The military tips site (not official Disney) says this:

"Eligible Service Members" are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard,
Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Permanently Disabled Veterans are also eligible for this offer. These military personnel will have a military ID
with a DAVPRM status.

Spouses of eligible members are able to participate without the member being present.

Not eligible are: unaccompanied dependants (children), prior service members who did not retire,
foreign military members, and DoD civilians.

Service members who did not retire may be eligible for other discounts."

Based on this info I would venture to guess that if he is not in possesion of a miltiary ID card (active or retired) he is not eligible for the Armed Forces Salute offer. But I am NOT an authority!

Okay, this has been very helpful. He served 4 years and served overseas during the Gulf War and then did Reserves for two. He's no longer active but as far as I know didn't retire. So, sounds like he wouldn't be eligible, but the final line of "service members who did not retire might be eligible for other discounts" is interesting. He used to still have his old military ID in his wallet just as another form of identification but I believe it's long gone now. He belongs to the local American Legion post, and is an active member there. I wonder if they do anything? I suppose when we get closer I will contact Disney directly to see what kind of "official" answer I can get. Thanks!

Tixs don't have to be reserved they do not run out.

SOG states this for non-retired military vets, which would apply to your DH since he served during the Gulf War

The Fort Bragg MWR has posted the new codes for hotel booking. I called to book, and the castmembers are still saying we can't book. I even tried to give her the code, and she would not try it. Just have to wait a little bit longer I guess!

But here is what was posted:

Booking codes:
W97 for stays 10/01/12 - 12/31/12
Q5L for stays 01/01/13 - 09/28/13

There are blackout dates:
11/22/12 - 11/24/12
12/23/12 - 12/31/12
03/25/13 - 04/04/13

They also posted the ticket information, but that is all the same as what's already been said here.

That is correct. he would be eligible for the SoG (Shades of Green) offer, but not for the Disney sponsored discounts. SoG is a fantastic option with some of the biggest rooms in Disney and the Stars and Stripes tickets for admission to the parks beats the Armed Forces Salute disney offer for longer stays. Just to clarify:

Shades of Green(SoG) - Military owned hotel across the street from Poly
Stars & Stripes (S&S) Tickets - Disney park admission tickets sold exclusively thru SoG

Armed Forces Salute - Disney sponsered discounts for military (active & retired). Includes discounts on room-only reservations as well as a discounted 4-day admission ticket. Note: ticket is for 4 days only and cannot be extended for more than 4 days. This ticket does beat the S&S tickets for 4 days, but two 4 day tickets will cost slightly more than an 8 day S&S ticket.

So if we bought 6 tickets under this promotion last year, does it mean that we can not buy another 6 for 2013 promo year?

So if we bought 6 tickets under this promotion last year, does it mean that we can not buy another 6 for 2013 promo year?

Although all the details aren't out yet... they should be considered two different promotions since the prices of the tickets are changing. Also, this year you can do up to 12 tickets, so that also makes me think that the new one will be considered a new promotion.

Latest word on the street is that the Armed Forces Salute announcement has been delayed until Friday while they "fix some numbers"

Just got off the phone. No luck booking it today. Maybe Friday then.
