New Military Discounts update

Since we're discussing tickets, may I also ask about the military discount for the Annual Pass? I thought at one time I found the discounted price on the SOG website and now I can't find the information anywhere! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Basically, it's $561 at SOG compared to $574+tax ($611.31) through Disney, so a savings of $50 per AP.

If I want to try to book a 2 bdrm villa at BLT for next May (which it is showing available on the WDW site for those dates, so I guess they are already taking cash reservations, not just DVC), does my father (the retired military member) have to make the reservation? Can I make it for all of us under his name? He would much rather I handle all of the reservations, but I didn't know the logistics (that is, if this room type is even available for military rate at that time, etc)?

You can make the reservation. I would be calling ASAP, because I don't think they offer the discout there often (if at all), so if it's available with the discount you will want to jump on it!

All WDW resort properties give the military discount for the length of the promotion, including DVC properties, but only an allotted amount of rooms for any given time.

I guess a better thing to have said was that I hadn't heard of anyone being able to get a 2 bedroom at BLT with the military discount, so I wasn't sure if there have ever been rooms available with it. There are certainly resorts that are easier to get than others - for example, every trip for the past 4 years I have enquired about YC and it has never been available for my (non-peak) dates. I know that they say that the discount is good at all of the resorts, but like any other discount they are only going to offer on rooms that aren't selling well without it. I just wanted to encourage the pp to check quickly because if it is available, I can't imagine that it will be for long.

If you're looking for a 2BDR there is always more availability at BWV than BCV than BLT. Getting any discounts on these is tough but not impossible. But the higher the availability, the better your chances.

I think that there is something like over 20 million veterans alive. I imagine that likely has something to do with why they don't extend it to all who have served.

Well I think Disney doesn't feel that way, I understand where you are coming from but how can they prove they served??? Too many people claiming they served but in the end didn't. We had a guy that claimed to have almost every medal the Navy could give out for his service during Viet Nam. He even said the years he was on a destroyer & the named of it. He was getting discounts after discounts on things. (He lives in same town we do) My husband served during the same period of time on same destroyer & knew the guy. The guy was kicked out of the Navy for hitting an officer the first month the ship sail out of Pearl Harbor, didn't even get to Viet Nam. They shipped him off the ship to another ship going back to Pearl. So it would be hard to prove that you served. But as I said I understand where you are coming from.

How can I prove it? Well we have a DD 214 and military ID cards. We did over ten years in the army and 18 mos in Iraq.

Why? Just curious. What makes an active duty or retired better than a veteran? My brother is active with one year of service. So he is more qualified than a veteran with 10+ years? Wow I thought military people supported each other more. Very disheartening knowing how many years we sacrificed but others don't feel it is "deserving".

Your word, not mine. And I never said anyone was "better" than anyone else, nor was that implied. And you are no longer "military people". You no longer collect military benefits, including the benefit of the military discounts at WDW.

You implied it. We enjoy many military benefits, but thank you for reminding us that we are no longer worthy of being called military. You are welcome for our service. I will always treat all service members the same - active, retired, veteran. To each their own.

I have to agree. Just because I personally served 7 years in the Army does not and should not "entitled" me to every discount under the sun.

It isn't about someone being more deserving or better, nor does it mean your service was not appreciated. csidisney, thank you for your husbands service and your sacrafices. But, it's no different then any other entity that receives various discounts. When I graduated college I was no longer eligible for "student" discounts. Just because I graduated didn't mean I should continue to get them. As for why someone who is retired should or does, well, its the magic number, the year they are eligible to retire with benefits. My husband just hit 20 this year, is getting one last promotion later this year and will retire with 23/4 years TIS around 2016. Now, again, it's not saying anyone who only served a few years is not good enough or less deserving, but there has to be a line somewhere.

If he has an ID card & can use the exchanges etc then you can use the discount. I wasn't being nasty

you are entitled to this discount which I think is pretty decent. While I tend to agree military is military. There will always be some that feel AD is even better than Guards and Reserves.....to me when duty calls they ALL respond and are faced with the same dangers. But this is just my opinion. Anyway SOG has this offer for all Vets:
