new miley cyrus video

I'm not thrilled about the video at age 17, but what bothers me more is her comment about it, something like "It's not about being sexy but about being free." WTH? It's like putting on overalls, milking a cow, bailing some hay and saying "it's not about being a farmer, it's about being free." Just tell the doggone truth, Miley!

Oh I think she meant its not about being sexy, its about her being free to be sexy :lmao:

i think it's tacky. and i'm glad that my daughter is not interested (nor has ever been) in hannah montana.

the only thought that comes to my mind is that she seems to keep biting the hand that feeds her. she needs to realize that without disney and HM, she'd still probably be a nobody. thanks to disney, she's got millions.

instead of wanting to be free and not caged in, maybe she should be a little grateful instead.

LOVE MILEY!!! LOVED the video too!! I thought it was gorgeous and she looked gorgeous in it. Did she look "sexy"...sure. But it was a music video. She wasn't going out and about dressed like that! And I am pretty conservative with what my kids watch. They just thought it was wierd that she was a bird!!:lmao:

I watched a snippet of her explaining/defending/whatevering her new video. That alone was painful, since every other word was interrupted by a gum-smacking "YaknowwhudImean?....KnowwhudImean?"

I don't know whether she actually believes the BS she is shoveling or if she's just managing to keep a straight face when she proclaims something alone the lines of, "My video inn't about sex or bein' seductive. I mean, when OTHER people make videos like that, THEY are trying to be all seductive and make it about sex and showing their bodies, but that's not whut I'M doin'......KnowhutImean? Whut MY video is about is THE MESSAGE.....I am explainin' THE LYRICS...it's not about being sexy or nuthin'....KnowwhutImean? That is whut OTHER people do in their videos, but not ME...I am about the LYRICS and the MEANING." :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Sure, you are. You are soooooooo deep. The grinding and T&A mean absolutely nothing and you are in no way attempting to sell sex like those other skanky singers that you are so obviously worlds away from in character and talent. Riiiiiiiight..... For crying out loud, just 'fess up and quit trying to straddle that fence. If you don't want to be virginal Hannah Montana, fine and good. If you want to be "bump and grind, ta-tas thrust up high Britney", go for it. But just be honest about what you're doing and don't try to pretend the video is something OTHER than what it is.

She rode the Hannah Montana gravy train all the way to the bank and did it happily. Once she became famous, she no longer needed Disney. It's an old story. Her talent is limited, so she's going to make the most of her "assets" to appeal to an older audience while she still can. Again....an old story. But this whole bit about pretending it's all about the music is a crock. There's plenty of hoochie being tossed around, because hoochie mama sells. Every time she goes on some self-righteous rant about how she's getting out of the music business because it's "so contrived" or "so artificial" I laugh until I have an asthma attack. First, she said she could never do country music because the industry was too artificial and contrived. Then she was getting out of music period, because the entire industry was too artificial and contrived. :rolleyes1 Well, she ought to know. She's the walking definition of an artificial and contrived musical "artist." Good luck with that acting career.

BTW, congrats to the editor for slicing together that video in 3-4 second bits so that it is less than obvious that the poor girl can't dance her way out of a paper bag. Excellent work! :thumbsup2 Britney did have a leg up on her in that respect. The spin she is putting on this video is making me dizzy. It's not about trying to be sexy........Good one. :woohoo:

Huh. I always thought being grown up meant mature. Turns out it just means the right to be sleazy. Good to know. :thumbsup2

The concept of the video is good, but the whole bird thing is lost after the first minute, and it becomes a slut fest. The first minute is nice though!

She shouldn't have grown up SO quickly, IMO. She should've let it go on for a year or so. Kind of like Britney, Rihanna, and P!nk, they started out all sweet and sunny and over the course of quite a few albums they got gradually darker and more sexy. I think this would be Miley's 2nd REAL album (not counting her Hannah Montana stuff), maybe 3rd.

For being so mature...she's not especially articulate that's for sure.

Oh..and the whole bird thing...:scared:

And think of the millions Disney made off of her... Business is business, and she's been sad having to be Hannah, but had no choice. Her teen years are almost over - let her act out a bit, like a normal teen.

She's one that proves money can't buy class.

This is just silly. She didn't break her contract, she IS finishing it.... but she chose not to extend it.

Many, many entertainers work multiple products. A singer being in a movie or a TV actor singing is not in the least unusual.

I didn't say she broker her contract, I'm saying she needs to finish off being Hannah Montana before she starts sleazing it up as Miley. Those two worlds apparently don't mesh together at all...

I can tell you right now dd13 would sign up for a role of a character like Hannah Montana in a heartbeat, never realizing that it wouldn't be fun to play a role where your fan-base is the under 8 crowd when you are 17. She fullfilled her contract - I'm sure she would've ran if Disney let her out early. An 18 year old girl IS a woman - parents, let your kids grow up! I'm glad mine considered me an adult when I turned 18. No wonder why we have 28 year olds still living at home. And with her experiences, Miley probably has more maturity than most 25 year olds.

I don't think she has more maturity than most 25 year olds - have you ever heard her speak? Making money doesn't make one mature at all...

i certainly hope and pray that my kids don't "act out" like that when they are teenagers.

Its the year 2010 isn't it time to get beyond that madonna/slut complex? Why is it any woman who doesn't try and act like a cutie little girl is a skank? As for doing other things as well as fufilling her contract, while acting in CSI New York Gary Sinise has been in 4 films I suppose doing that makes him immature or why didn't he wait til csi had finished before starting other projets.

The whole 'slut' complex is very complicated, as I don't use such words. For me, I have had the same conversation about Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Britney, etc. as about Miley. Can't they just sing and dance? No, because their talent is in question (although Christina can sing, but due to the others, she has to follow suit, or she'll lose money). Do they really need to tell us that they have a body? Oh, I didn't know that, so it's a good thing they reminded me - LOL! Seriously, it's old, tired and fake...It actually makes them less of a woman in my opinion, as they aren't able to rely on their own talents or abilities...

About Gary Sinise, or any other actor who is in several contracts. No problem, until they start biting the hand that feeds them and complaining how unhappy they were or are in the original contract. If Gary Sinise had run around complaining about his gig on CSI: NY, I would say the same thing. It's immature, plain and simple, as he signed up for that contract. Unless they did something wrong like not pay him, then he has no right to complain until he finishes that role. Many actors play multiple roles and work under several contracts - it's once they start complaining about them, and acting totally ungrateful, that's when I have problem. If working for Disney was so bad, why was your Daddy a star in it with you, and your baby sister in it from time to time? Oh...that's right - money!!!!

When anyone pretends that they have integrity and it's all about the talent, etc. and not about the gimmick, when clearly, that's what it's about, I don't support that artist at all. That's my problem with the whole thing - we aren't stupid, you can't trick us into believing Miley or Madonna, or anyone else, that it's all about the 'music' because from what I see, that's about the last thing it's about these days.

In our home, there are no issues. We don't watch HM, and don't buy Miley merchandise. DD watched HM for the 1st or 2nd year, and that was it - we have had tons of HM crap around the house thanks to my mother in law who loves that stuff. My DD saw the Party In the USA video by accident one day as we were watching Handy Manny - our Family network decided that was an appropriate video during preschool hour. We switched it off pretty quickly, but she immediately asked who that was? I said it was Miley, and she was stunned. She commented on the fact that she was not acting her age of 16. No mention of HM as she knows that's a character - I taught my kids at very young ages that actors play characters. Just like the actors who play characters at Disney Parks. Even at a very young age, my DD knows that Miley and HM aren't the same person - HM is a character that Miley plays. That's why she had a problem with the video - she didn't like how Miley was acting in it. I said it wasn't age appropriate for us, but apparently her parents are ok with it, and we haven't spoken of it again. Am I worried that if I let her watch or listen she would change somehow? Nope, not at all. We don't watch music videos as most of them aren't appropriate - at almost 7 years old, my DD's role models live among her, and can't be found on TV...

Tiger :)

First thing that came to mind when watching the video was Britney Spears.

why does growing up mean you need to make a trampy video where you are telling everyone you have grown up?

I liked her as HM and I like her as herself. It must be hard to break that disney mold and no matter what she does people will complain and dislike her choices. But the truth of the matter she is 17 she isn't totally grown up.

To me this was too desperate. She is a very pretty person who has some type of talent. I don't feel she has the best voice but something about her voice is likeable.

I wish her well and hope she is grounded and can survive the next phase of the music industry.

Because she's acting like a skank in the video.

So, you don't complain about ANYTHING???? I complain about my job almost weekly, I complain about my mother, I complain about my children. So, that's immature??? HM was a job for her, and if I remember correctly, it's a free country and we all have free speech, if she wants to complain about her job- who are you put her down for that? I think it's time to get off your high horse.

Easy...there is no high horse. If I'm complaining each day at my job, and impressing upon people what a terrible thing it is, I totally expect someone to say that maybe I should look for another job.

She can complain all she wants...but when she implies that somehow Disney has harmed her as a person and was so horrible to work for, and she can't wait to get the heck out, then I say give back the millions you made while working for that company...I remember reading an article in which her and Billy Ray implied that Disney and the fans were 'lucky' that Miley had decided to sign on to finish her contract as HM for completion of Season 4. Really...that's a person of integrity and someone who is proud of their work?

We all complain about little things here and there, but when you start biting the hand that feeds you, then it's hypocritical, IMHO. A mature person would keep their mouth shut, finish the job, and go on their way! Or a mature person wouldn't have signed up for a gig they knew they would grow to hate. This is obviously Miley's real personality...we get it, she's a rebel. So why did she think she would enjoy playing a young teen character marketed to 8 year olds for 4 years - someone whom she is obviously so bothered by? Because she wanted the money and fame. Some actors play the same character for 20, 30 or 50 years. She's only played it for a few short years...is it seriously that bad being Hannah Montana?

Like I said, Miley can do whatever she wants...I'm not her manager or parents. This discussion is about her new video and her new attitude about life. It's hypocritical and tired to myself and others...it may not be to you. Such is life!

Tiger :)
