new miley cyrus video

The problem is that people are expecting her to stay Disney's version of Miley and she isn't, she's being herself.

No she's not. She's being what she hopes will broaden her appeal beyond 12 year old girls.

All these 17 year olds trying to act all trampy like Madonna and having a tough-girl attitude is not them being themself. If it is, they must be very lonely people.

At 17, I was out of HS, living on my own, active duty military and going to college part time. :confused3 I wore short shorts and went to clubs and danced in ways that my mom wouldn't have approved of, but you know what, I'm a normal, productive member of society 11 years later. My life wasn't ruined and I'm sure hers won't be either. My girls and I love listening to Miley, I'm gonna miss her music, but I'm glad she is trying to grow up and find herself as a young woman.

That's what I was thinking too. If she wasn't a celebrity she would be finishing up high school in a few weeks and either going to college or out into the real world. In 6 months she'll be an adult.

I thought the video was really good and I liked the song.

If someone's 13 yr old daughter decides to wear knee high boots and booty shorts out in public that's all on mommy and daddy, not Miley.

So am I the only one who thinks that juuuuust maybe she's going down the sexy-tough-vixen route because the Hannah Montana well is drying up?

I agree b/c while Miley is almost an adult 13 years olds are not and should be told no and when they bring up but Miley does it, I tell them Miely is not my kid and she is a LOT older than you too. :thumbsup2

Like I said, my problem with her 'new' image is that it's trashy and fake. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that she's putting together an image to capture sales. I can't stand this - I like singers who sound good live as they are talented singers. No props or gimmicks necessary!

Tiger :)

I think this image is more real than her Hannah imagine, which she really resented for the last couple of years. There was nothing real about Hannah Montana - just a gimmick to capture sales.

Well, she does have to make a living and think and plan for her future...but remember, SHE is the 1 who decided it was time to put an end to HM, Disney still wanted her for a few more seasons. So, if you're insinuating that because Disney dumped her she's gotta do something, I think you're mistaken. She has said that she is done with HM, she will be done with music, and she just wants to focus on acting in more adult roles. I see nothing wrong with that.

Not a kid, but how about age appropriate? She's only 17, so she's in between being a kid and an adult. Tiger :)

I would say 13 would be in between, not 17! When I was 17, I'd go out dancing with my gf's, and we certainly were not wearing the same clothing we would wear to school, and dancing to songs like It's Raining Men and Too Turned On, shaking our booties! Miley is almost a legal adult.

I think we as a society are letting the media be the main influence on our kids lives then we need to. Yes they are going to see it but it is up to parents to teach our kids that it is not real life and that just b/c they see someone on tv wear certain things that they can wear them too. teach your kids YOUR morels and values and what is expected of them and what is not. that way when it comes to what Miley does or doesn;t do will have no effect on your kids B/c they know at their age mom and dad will say no.

She isn't almost an adult she is one. She has grown up and people just don't like it. I don't think the video was at all trampy but then again childhood has as far as I can see been extended to the 20's which is way to long to consider a person a child. Let her enjoy her life as an adult it isn't being trampy to want to be a woman not a child.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't consider a 17 year old teenager to be a woman.

And she isn't an adult (legally) until she's 18.

I agree with you, I just meant legally she is almost 18. :hippie:

Then why did she do it? Oh, because she didn't mind raking in all of the cash doing so. Very hypocritical...it was good enough then to take millions of dollars from kids, but now, it's not good enough anymore? I'm not saying she needs to be Hannah Montana forever, but she is still taping Season 4 of the show. So, a mature and responsible adult would know that she should finish with this committment - see it through to the end, in a proper manner. She can be trashy and rebellious Miley when she's done with Hannah Montana, IMHO.

I don't agree - I'm not one who thinks that just because you turn 18, you are magically an adult. She is still only 17, and in my world, that's still young. As a highschool teacher, I can tell you that in my world, many 17 year olds are not even close to being considered men or women. Now, Miley has grown up fast, and I hear she has purchased her own mansion, and will be moving into that very soon, so she has had experiences that many of us at 17 didn't have, but she still has a ways to go before I consider her a full grown adult woman.

She was probably still bound by a contract to carry on. Why can't people just let her start her adult career without wishing harm or failure.

Well, I'm a highschool teacher, and so if our girls do come to school like this, which isn't often, they are sent home. Time and place is what we teach them - short shorts are for the beach!

As for my own daughter and nieces, it's the same thing. They could watch Miley and it wouldn't have an effect on them at all - they dress appropriately for their ages and for what their Momma's buy for them to wear. That's not my issue with Miley - what she wears is her business. She is also not a role model to my children, but for many she is. Here in lies the problem...Clothing companies use these to create fads and clothing lines for kids, and so it's difficult to clothe children nowadays. Now, I don't think anyone is going to outfit their kids in a bird costume - LOL!, but the styles reflected in videos are copied by clothing companies, and that's an issue for me.

She's a 17 year old performer, its her job to entertain. Its her job to know what the current trend in the music business is, and right now her image is a relflection of whats "in". Personally I think she knows exactly who she is and what she needs to do to be successful and she's doing it. Playing a charactr in a music video doesn't make you that character.
I also find it funny that her "new" image is being based on 1 video and if it isn't and you are basing it on what she's done in the past (outside of HM) then its not new, its just different from her fictional character's image is and what you expect from her. Like I said, I've seen her live on her HM tour and her recent Miley tour, she is edgier than her HM character so I really don't see what is so "fake" about this new image and this 1 video. Does she put a little more sex appeal in it than before, sure but thats probably because she's 17 and she can not because she's being fake.

Well, a mature and responsible adult would know that you finish one contract and see it through to the end, before you start another one.

There are many people who want to quit jobs, etc., but they don't because they are bound by a contract. Committment is something that comes with age and experience, so perhaps she should have thought about that when she signed. I'm sure the dollar signs were in the way of her having foresight enough to see that she may not want to play that character for 4 years in a row. Having foresight is something else that comes with maturity, so again, in my world, by the absence of these values, she's not ready for the adult world just yet.

This is just silly. She didn't break her contract, she IS finishing it.... but she chose not to extend it.

Many, many entertainers work multiple products. A singer being in a movie or a TV actor singing is not in the least unusual.

I agree and there are LOTS of people that have 2 or even 3 jobs all different and all have their own contract to a certain degree. Nothing wrong with it at all. everyone does what they think they should, she is doing the same.

I can tell you right now dd13 would sign up for a role of a character like Hannah Montana in a heartbeat, never realizing that it wouldn't be fun to play a role where your fan-base is the under 8 crowd when you are 17. She fullfilled her contract - I'm sure she would've ran if Disney let her out early. An 18 year old girl IS a woman - parents, let your kids grow up! I'm glad mine considered me an adult when I turned 18. No wonder why we have 28 year olds still living at home. And with her experiences, Miley probably has more maturity than most 25 year olds.
