new miley cyrus video

DH and I both think Miley will be in Playboy within 5 years. It's too predictable. She started out a manufactured Disney product with precious little actual singing talent and was mass marketed to little girls and tweens. Now she wants to appeal to an older audience and by and large, I don't think it's going to work, no matter how much she sexes herself up. As her music sales start to fall off, so will her clothes.....in direct proportion. Good heavens, you'd think she had just now discovered she had T&A and that she alone had them. :rotfl:
:scared1:

:lmao:Love that line- As her music sales fall off so will her clothes! That is so true. You can be certain that will happen as I agree with many she has no talant. Very much a product of "at the right place at the right time sort of thing".

I'm not a big fan of Taylor Swift, but Taylor's actually a musician who doesn't use technology to cover her voice.

Oh no, I think she can sing, I just think it's sad to try to still sell yourself as a pure teenager when you're in your twenties.

The thing that I find hilarious with people, and I mean people in general, is that everyone has such this big problem with the way Miley looks, dresses, and acts in public, OMG she's got a bf who's older (20 right?) she posts pics on Myspace, typical teenager stuff. But anyway, there's such an uproar about her actions, but what I say is, look at Taylor Lautner, at 16 grown women were drooling over his shirtless pics in magazines, at 17 he was dating Taylor Swift WHO WAS 20 at the time! These same women have a problem with Miley's pics in a sheet with just her back showing but they are going gaga over a MALE CHILD! Grow up and get over it! It's such a double standard and I hate it.

Sorry for the rant!

When my dd16 almost 17 was asked by one of her many non-virgin friends why she was still a virgin--her response was that she has integrity.

And you'd have to see my dd--she has looked like she's been in 20's for years and yes has the height and looks to go with the package--it's been a long couple of years trying to keep the road straight.

Integrity--I just don't see it in this video--and this video certainly will not be helping all of us mothers out there who it seems have to give THE talk almost on a nightly basis :sad2:

I hope your kidding or majorly exaggerating!!!! My DD is 12 (and is mistaken for 16/17 because of her build) and I don't need to keep going over this stuff. I showed her the video yesterday with no worries. She already knows the difference between what 17 yr olds are allowed and what is appropriate for her age - and she already knows the difference between Hollywood/music stars and what is expected in her life.

seems you are doing the right thing - so why is this ONE video that big of a deal? You kids have done really well this far and they are pretty mature age wise....I don't see you having that much to worry about.

The idea that videos by these young singers will have so much influence on our kids just floors me. My daughter was ten years old when Brittney came out with her video "Hit Me Baby One More Time". I thought she was dressed a little skimpy and wasn't crazy about the lyrics, but DD loved it. She really wasn't paying attention to the way she dressed or the lyrics. She just loved the melody and the dancing.

DD remained a Brittney fan for quite a few years. As Brittney got older, the dancing and lyrics became edgier. After awhile, DD out grew Brittney. She still thinks she is an incredible dancer, but really doesn't care for her music and certainly doesn't approve of the way she's lived her life.

I think we worry too much about the affect of performers on our kids. If we've raised our kids well, watching a music video really shouldn't make a difference in their moral behavior. It didn't for my DD. She is now 22 and has a great deal of integrity.

I think mothers need to worry more about the influences on our kids in their everyday life. Most kids are smart enough, by the time they reach their teen years, to know that what they see in a music video is not a reflection of real life. The things they see in their own schools are much more damaging than what they will see in a video. My daughter certainly knew the difference and grew up just fine.

I think Miley is quite talented. She doesn't sound like every other performer out there. She has a husky quality to her voice that I really like. I think she will be a good actor once she can get away from the silly plots she's had to deal with on HM.

As for Taylor, I think she is a really beautiful, sweet young girl. I like a couple of her songs because I like the lyrics. I don't think she can carry a tune in a handbasket. Everything she sings sounds the same, but each to their own.

In the end, I think a lot of the outrage over Miley has to do with parents who see it as a reminder that their little girls are growing up quickly. We'd all like to keep our little ones sweet and innocent. That's not going to happen forever. Miley is growing up. Our daughters are growing up. Just because Miley is moving away from HM doesn't mean she will lead all of her little fans down the path of destruction. If so, the parents haven't done their job. JMHO.

Edited to add: I don't think Miley is doing edgier things to make money. She has enough money to buy and sell all of us. I think she truely enjoys performing and wants to push the boundaries. Seems like a perfectly normal activity for a young performer.

You took the words right from my keyboard!!! lol :cutie:

I was in no way implying that my dd would be influenced by this video. She's past that--it is the peer pressure. But it's the society at large that has to set the moral compass for civilization to survive.
And this video ain't cutting it. Just sayin'
And for those that take the high road and insist that it's the artist's right to sing and act however she wants, this video will influence many young girls out there who do idolize her. And many parents don't need the added pressure from someone their young child idolizes to talk about how she goes through men.

One thing that needs to be repeated and pointed out again is that Miley is almost 18, in a few short months she will be 18!!! I really think she is not going to be a Britney, sure she may make a few mistakes but she is still young for goodness sake! But she is still old enough to be on her own. Heck when I was her age I was about to give birth to my oldest and married! the way she is dressing and acting is nothing new for any girl ion the biz or not! she is finding her way and if she can so it in music that is better than the alternative! sheesh you'd think that it was expected for her stay a kid! :rolleyes1

Really? I think you are missing a segment of the population that listens to alternative music.

Now that stuff is much more influencing than a bunch of chicks in sexy videos. That is all I am saying.

This is where parental control comes in! and a good time for a chat with the little ones. Just sayin'

Oh c'mon. Give the poor girl a break. She will be 18 in 6 months. She is not a kid anymore. Accept it. 17 year old girls do all sorts of "adult" things. This is mild....trust me.

Lots of good points made so far. I agree that it's only natural that Miley has to grow up and the kind of entertainment she provides is going to change. Afterall, she's a real person not a Kim Possible cartoon character. And what I've seen her wear and do so far really isn't that bad. I just wish she had allowed a little more time and distance between her HM days and the new, edgier stuff. It can be difficult to explain to my 7yo why she isn't allowed to listen to all of Miley's music or watch all of her videos or performances. Nothing that I can't handle but it is kind of confusing for DD.

I haven't seen the video yet, but my girls have and they think it's a little skanky. They like Miley's music for the most part, but they aren't fans of the video.

My thoughts:

Professionally, it looks (and sounds to me anyway) too much like Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Cassanova" video.

I thought she just recently stated she was hoping to quit music for a while and focus on her acting. So, why the need for "edgier" songs if that isn't going to be her focus?

Whether or not she is growing up or needing a "grown up" look, she has expressed a certain faith and there will be people who see the changes and believe it conflicts with what she has espoused in the past.

17 is Hollywood for 24 I think. She won't be the first person to try the transition and I'm sure she'll have some missteps.

The problem is that people are expecting her to stay Disney's version of Miley and she isn't, she's being herself. Good for her :thumbsup2
I wouldn't call that posing, I think before she was able to express herself, she was a poser, because Disney owned her and she had to be the image they wanted her to be, not just as HM but as Miley too. Now she is free, hence the edgier song and the meaning behind it.

Actually, they do. I always find the threads about her clothes funny. I was a teen in the 80's and I had mini-skirts as short as her short shorts in her Party in the USA video and my generation was not the one to invent the mini-skirt! Watch an old Brady Bunch show and see how short Marsha's skirt is!

Well, I'm a highschool teacher, and so if our girls do come to school like this, which isn't often, they are sent home. Time and place is what we teach them - short shorts are for the beach!

As for my own daughter and nieces, it's the same thing. They could watch Miley and it wouldn't have an effect on them at all - they dress appropriately for their ages and for what their Momma's buy for them to wear. That's not my issue with Miley - what she wears is her business. She is also not a role model to my children, but for many she is. Here in lies the problem...Clothing companies use these to create fads and clothing lines for kids, and so it's difficult to clothe children nowadays. Now, I don't think anyone is going to outfit their kids in a bird costume - LOL!, but the styles reflected in videos are copied by clothing companies, and that's an issue for me.

Like I said, my problem with her 'new' image is that it's trashy and fake. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that she's putting together an image to capture sales. I can't stand this - I like singers who sound good live as they are talented singers. No props or gimmicks necessary!

Tiger :)
