New Magic Kingdom Welcome Show & Main Street Opening UPDATE: Page 15 - Post #281

There really doesn't seem to be many more characters in this show than were in the train show. I know that we have seen Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Pluto, White Rabbit, Fairy Godmother, Alice, Snow White, Mary Poppins, Anastasia, Drizella, and Tiana all at one show before. Don't remember seeing Belle or Rapunzel so I guess they might be new. In any case, I don't think my daughter will be any more excited by this show than the previous one just because of the characters. She will like getting into the park earlier instead of hanging out in the front, but then won't be happy when she sees $300 worth of things she just HAS to have and I say no, though.

Personally, I prefer the train show with the citizens and mayor or fire chief. But, they didn't ask my opinion so I'm guessing they don't really care what I want or prefer.

Reports on Twitter said PPO breakfast folks were let in at 7:50, just like they always have been. It only gives a 10-minute head start on the rest of the folks, though. I think this greatly affects Crystal Palace people, because even if you are done with breakfast early, you're held with the rest of the folks until the ropes drop at 9. CRT and BOG guests are in the lands themselves already.

That's good to know though about getting in at 7:50 to at least have a few minutes for the "empty Main St" pictures

Do they rope off the lands near the hub so you have to watch the show or are they roping them off farther down the paths to the lands? I ask because if Mine Train is #1 priority will you line up near hub or down near Cosmic Ray's waiting for the rope to be dropped?
Just my personal opinion, I love the idea that Main Street opens at 8 and guests can wonder around. I never did like waiting in a huge throng of crushed humanity out near the turnstiles. Yes, I enjoyed the old opening show, but hopefully they can make this new one just as good or better.

I agree...I just did a random youtube search of the old opening and there were at least 11 Main Street citizens/dancers and at least 13 Disney characters, so I def. don't think there's more characters in the new show...more princesses yes, but not more characters.

In my opinion, this feels a lot like the rope drop at DHS which I'm not a fan of.

Was posted on twitter that there is security table/metal detector machines on path from Contemporary today. Couldn't see after but they'd have to have you in queue or rope until next gate or pointless. Could see lots of security like they might have been along line.

I just think entering the MK is going to totally change this year since so many different things are happening/changing. Time will tell.

user mikepizzo mentioned on the "News Round Up 2017" thread that he read an article today regarding some changes in security including the bags check tables brought further out and that Contemporary had a separate bag check for guests that walked over from there.

Yes, I stated that I saw security was by Contemporary (with photo). I rarely go to the "Rumors/News" Board anymore and guess many folks on this board don't either so I was sharing info I saw with Theme Parks readers.

Note: LOTS of security. This kinda makes no sense to bring in this many to maintain a line for Contemporary. I think it's just a step towards some bigger changes.

Well the last few times we saw it, I saw nothing like this. What I saw was less folks than was in the new show and a third of them were dancers not characters. Add the crush of humanity, we just didn't get the popularity.

Yes, I think the CP people are really going to end up being at a disadvantage, as they're going to be behind everyone else.

I had planned my morning to do breakfast at Crystal Palace and then on to Splash/Big Thunder. I do enjoy the breakfast there but I think I'll pass this time. I don't want to get stuck behind a bunch of people. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

I hope you don't think I was trying to be like "go to this thread not this thread". I was more or less just elaborating your post and put in where I found the information for a reference point. A lot of times people put in some information and then the next thing you know someone says "Where did you hear that?" so I was trying to put that in proactively not trying to step on your toes or anything like that.

Thanks for adding in the picture. I do agree seems more like a step towards something big (maybe separate security points than what is being done now as it has been mentioned in the past).

Are any of the Main Street Citizens out greeting guests as people mill about Main Street?

But if their goal is empty Main Street/castle photos (as opposed to early access to rides), they could possibly still get those before they check in for their ADR.

On the plus side...I like the CM who does Sir Sterling. He's one of my favorites (loved him as Guano Joe in Flights of Wonder too). The characters are nice, thought not really more than before. The FG was a nice touch.

The downside, WAY less energy in that show. It's missing music, action, suspense building. It's not as fun or charming.

On the whole I would say it's not an upgrade, but at least they replaced the show with SOMETHING rather than just doing away with a welcome show all together.

PPO is going to be about "having breakfast before rides open." As it really should be. It shouldn't be this secret way to buy access.

This is really the only reason I liked PPO, I didn't want to miss ride time eating. We usually eat breakfast at our resort but I do like having one breakfast in the park. I hope they are now easier to get.

Agreed. You could see anywhere from eight to a dozen characters for the opening show on any given day. No consistency and I wonder if that'll happen with this show? But I liked the new opening. More space to spread out, the castle as the backdrop and Fairy Godmother on the balcony doing the opening, no squishing through the arches. I prefer it.

I think it's def possible given this photo was this morning for folks entering at 8. BUT I would say that there are lots (like me) who would not make the effort for rope drop or the show BUT if I could get this picture without a PPO ADR, I would. That said, I think moving this show will increase crowds.

This actually kinda makes me mad .......... cause now in two weeks I'm gonna have to get my butt out of bed and see this emptiness for myself. #ThanksShanghai ..... :rotfl:just kidding.
