New Magic Kingdom Welcome Show & Main Street Opening UPDATE: Page 15 - Post #281

So I guess this would increase the "value" then of PPO ADRs since it gives guests even more time to beat the crowds to the standby lines at popular attractions?
That remains to be seen. For BOG and CRT, maybe. Not for CP, where you'll be stuck behind the hordes of people in the Hub.

Yeah obviously different for CP but BOG and CRT really gets a bump here so long as the open show stays at 8:55 am and guests are held at the hub.

Wow. The new show can't hold a candle to the old one. That is extremely disappointing. I watched the new one followed by the old, and it's not even close. What others have said about the lack of energy and excitement is totally true. I understand the security improvements that this show allows & I won't mind walking Main Street early on, but watching the old show after the new, I can see where there is tremendous room for improvement in adding the energy and excitement. The Fairy Godmother part was really the only part that really provided any spark at all. Hopefully, this is just the start, and they can do something to make it better.

Yes, I stated that I saw security was by Contemporary (with photo). I rarely go to the "Rumors/News" Board anymore and guess many folks on this board don't either so I was sharing info I saw with Theme Parks readers.

Note: LOTS of security. This kinda makes no sense to bring in this many to maintain a line for Contemporary. I think it's just a step towards some bigger changes.

It could be that they're planning here what they just did at DLR. There, the security tents used to be on either side (east and west) of the common esplanade between DL and DCA. Recently, they moved the west security tents all the way back to the entrances to Downtown Disney from the on-site hotels, effectively making all of Downtown Disney and both parks one giant secure zone. Given the recent staging of off-site guests at the TTC and the shuffling they're doing with the security tents/tables outside MK and on the path from the Contemporary, I wonder whether they're planning to make the entire MK esplanade/transportation hub area a secure zone along with MK? All they would need to do to accomplish that is to put security tables at the MK resort (CR, WL, GF, and Poly) and TTC monorail entrances and boat launches, and at the area where arriving bus passengers exit towards the entrance esplanade. That would effectively distribute the security checks away from the MK entrance area and allow security staff to deal with any potential issues in less-crowded areas away from the park. It would also be little different than what they just did at DLR, which is essentially to screen every on-site hotel guest as they exit their hotels into Downtown Disney.

So basically you won't see the show if getting a major attraction done at rope drop is a priority.

That's exactly how it was before. If you positioned yourself as close to the ropes as possible, you couldn't see the welcome show above your head.

I'm not complaining about it, just getting the info out.

Besides, it's not exactly how it was before, you would see the opening show and then be let in to go to the ropes. I never remember being so close I couldn't see it.

No, you wouldn't. Your point was that by positioning yourself as close to the ropes as possible in the current opening procedure, you would not be able to see the welcome show. My point was that by positioning yourself as close to the ropes as possible in the former opening procedure, you still would not be able to see the welcome show. That hasn't changed. January 8th or January 9th, you could hang back and see the show, or you could arrive early and position yourself right at the ropes and see none of the show because it was blocked from your view.

Like I said, I don't remember being so close you couldn't see the opening. However, I'll take your word for it. I know being back 5 feet you could see it no problem, however in the new configuration if you're waiting for Mine Train rope drop you will not see it, even if you stood back 5 feet. I realize it's not that big of deal, but you'll need to compromise front of line or park open show if you are going to a major headliner on a busy day. If you're doing Pirates at opening, then go watch the show and walk slowly to PotC after it. Not a problem.
