Dh and I are in need of some new luggage. We need several sizes, must have's good rollers, and possible a garment bag.

We take alot of long weekend trips, and then 2 week long vacations. But we are planning on going to Europe next year, and I want to start getting some of those items bought ahead of time. So I need something that well work for traveling abroad.

Hard side verse soft side???

Thanks in advance

The best "brands" are typically going to be Samsonite and Travelpro. They tend to offer the longest lasting luggage IMO and have 10 year warranties and can take a pretty good beating without much concern. Other brands that typically receive good reviews are High Sierra and Victorinox.

I personally enjoy the soft cover more because I feel like I could "stuff" more into them and because its easier to stack in the back of a car.

If price is a concern I would wait for the Macy's/JCPenny/Dillards sales. They typically mark down luggage sets 40-60% during their special one or two day sales. You can also try luggageonline if you want big discounts and dont care about color/brand.

International carry-on sizes are smaller than domestic so I purchased Tumi's international line of luggage. I travel a lot on business, including international. This is not a budget brand however I highly recommend it. I prefer soft side as it's easier to stuff more in and it's lighter.

I had Samsonite spinners before and did not care for it because the wheels take up too much of the dimensions (lose suitcase size as a result) and it was heavier than Tumi.

Bought Samsonite at Costco last year, couldn't beat the deal anywhere else.

I bought 2 of the Ebags Mother Lode rolling duffels based on recommendations from this board. I wasn't necessarily looking for a rolling duffel, but one of the posters suggested watching the video on ebags.com and I decided to give it a try. The 21" carry on and 25" Junior have held up beautifully over 3 trips. My daughter's old suitcase is going to be replaced by one of these, too, before we travel again. Oh, and I can jam the 25" full and not go over the weight limit.

We have been looking at this for a few weeks now. We have two expensive pieces that we needed wheel replacements for. I've looked everywhere on the internet for replacement wheels and they do NOT exist! I didn't want to spend anymore time having to send them somewhere to be repaired, so we bought new ones. I was most interested in how they could be repaired after the airport threw them around and broke the wheels. I was very pleased with HeysUSA luggage. They have great reviews and after we bought them I looked closely and found the wheels can be easily replaced with wheels from Menards with just a few bolts :) Even better, we found them at Burlington Coat Factory and only paid $180 for three pieces - 30", 26", and 22". They have a sale on them at Kohls too, but they are priced at $535 for the set. You have to search the name on Kohls website, it doesn't come up under the luggage search. We haven't used this luggage at the airport yet, but I feel confident that we will be able to repair just about anything that goes wrong. Oh, and they also come with a 7 year warranty :)

I like the website ebags.com

I bought a set from there 2 years ago. It came to me dented. I called and explained my situation. I was able to return without any hassle. They sent another set ASAP!
