Didn't they send an email saying to come back monday?? So they should be doing it...

Yes, they did sent one after that e-mail glitch that they had earlier on Friday. I don't want to be negative Nellie as I've been here all day the same as almost everyone else trying to get the week of my DD BD, but I really don't think they planned on this many people sitting there all day. I really DO hope I'm wrong!!

I agree it is very deceptive. They did not say anything about this in the terms and conditions. If you were actually paying a $1 for the room they could not make you pay income tax on it. I think people are going to fight them when they find out that they have to pay income tax on the full cost of the room. This can be very expensive for some people. If you book a $1000 a night villa or something equally expensive it can push you into a high tax bracket. Some people may even find that this pushes them into having to pay alternative minimum tax next year whereas without this they might have just missed it. May not seem like such a big deal until you run the numbers and find that you are paying way more than you ever could have imagined for this so called "free" room.

I think I'll try for my usual value resort, just in case!

Not only can I not exit this train wreck but I can't even take a few moments to see what else is on the budget board today. I've been here since page 1 - every time I attempt to pop out for a minute the thread grows by another 4-5 pages.

It sure is hard to keep us with all this nothing happening. Help meeeeeeeeee....I think I've fallen and I can't give up!

I just got back from a meeting.........so I'm guessing I didn't miss it??? And what's that other website again?? With the chat room?? The one that gives fake pops all the time and scares the crap out of me!?!?!:crazy2:

The whole tax thing kinda worries me now, it may not be such a great deal after all.....

I just went to HR Block and went to the tax calculator...if I were to add $2000 (hotel) to the place for the 1099 form, I would pay 15% tax on the total.

Most lodging tax is 10-15%, so that is pretty right on target.

ok- question on chatango- i signed up for an account but it's still logging me out every 25 minutes- what do i do?

If i am awake when this happens today... I have the results screen open.
Do I watch the video first- then push the modify my results on the search page ?? or as soon as the video pops up?
oh so confusing, and now I have 4 kids to put to bed as Dh is as work. ahhh
it's going to be real quick tonight and bedtime stories at the computer

What I'm curious about in the tax issue, how are they saying that the rooms are free when some people are having their cards declined? I mean why are they charging the cards at all!

just refresh that page every so often and it won't close on you. I refresh every few minutes on it and it hasn't logged me out yet.

I have been on chatango for a while now and haven't heard many "pops"... have there been any or is something wrong with my computer?? i cant afford to miss the pop after this long!!!!!

It is explained well somewhere waaaay back there. It would be the value of the stay at the regular rate and that would have to be claimed on your taxes as income. So say it was really a $200 a night hotel and you had 7 nights, you would get a 1099 with $1400 in income on it. You would then have to add this in to your income when filing your taxes.

We won a TV this year and got a 1099 from the appliance store for $1100. We have to include this when doing our taxes as income. It is a similar thing I believe with this hotel thing.

They offer to sell you a room at $1. You buy it. You enter a contest to win a hotel. You get a 1099. I know for sure you do not pay sales tax on the going rate, which some have said.

I get rooms on Priceline all the time for a fantastic deal. I don't get a 1099 for the true value. How is this any different?

Good question, anybody have the answer???

way at the bottom of the right hand side there is something to click on and it then says "Log Out" as the words instead of whatever it said before. Sorry I've been logged into that thing since Thursday so I'm not sure what it said before.

Been patiently waiting with all of you. Quick question. What does Standard Club Level Access mean. Conceirge?:confused3

I am just telling you what a read in a posted email from LMT Customer Service that was a million pages ago. The gist is that this is being treated as a sweepstakes or contest and therefore it is different. Not everyone will be able to buy a room at this special price where as on Priceline anyone can go do it.
