LOL - we're Pat's fans (sorry about last year!) but since our team isn't playing this weekend we're supporting the Steelers....along with our good friends from Pittsburgh!

As for the fridge, I'm referring to a RENTAL fridge. The fee will be waived upon request due to a medical necessity (meds must be kept at a constant cool temp). Since the temperature in the in-room "mini-fridge" is too volatile and can not be truly "set" using any dial (as it can in the rental), this can not be safely utilized to store your meds. The environment of the mini-fridge subjects the meds to fluctuating temps resulting in compromised integrity of the chemical composition. Please, give them a call and reserve this in advance.

??? We won't have "meds" per-se. Formula and bottles, which could be ruined tecnically if they get too warm. Do you think they will waive it for that?
With regards to the room request, I'd change the "standard view" to a "preferred view" (just my personal preference). This will improve your chances of receiving the corner turret as well.

We paid for a "standard room" or a "club level room." Didn't have the option for preferred view, and DH's company won't buy club level. I will plan to call a little closer and speak to someone about our situation just to be safe.

I omitted an important factor in the room # post. The corner rooms numbered 5015, 5017, and 5019 are all DOUBLE balcony rooms. In any of these specific rooms, you will have the turret balcony along with the standard balcony overlooking Epcot

Are these rooms larger, too? Or just with more view?

Thank you thank you for your help!

Can you address this for me? I think it got lost a few pages back (62).

Great to hear about toys and sippy cups!!! I will have to remember that. Esp. the babyproofing items. Did you get these at the Dolphin?

Also, can someone tell me about refillable mugs at Tubbi's. Have you done this recently? How much are they? Can I get Starbuck's and Diet coke with them? Can I use them at the other S/D restaurants?

The mugs are great. They can be used for coffee, tea, and soft drinks and can only be refilled at Tubbi's - which happens to be open 24-hours! I think they cost about $10.00 each

Someone posted recently about using their DVC at SHULA'S STEAKHOUSE for a 20% discount. This is incorrect information, and they must be mistaken. I contacted SHULA'S (as I was personally interested) using their website. I wrote to the GM of the Dolphin location, and received a response today. Here is the full email sent/received (Feel free to contact them with any questions you may have):

Lisa,
Thank you for your support of Shula's Steakhouse. Unfortunately we do not accept the DVC cards here at the Dolphin Hotel . We are not a Disney hotel and have no way of processing payment for these cards. Our hotel is managed by Starwood.
All the best regards,

Comments: Someone recently reported Shula's is now accepting the "DVC card" (Disney Vacation Club membership card) at the Steakhouse. Shula's honors the card for a 20% discount off all food and beverage. Is this true? I never knew Shula's to accept ANY discount, which is fine by us. We enjoy the food and experience so much, we do not mind paying the bill (sans any discount). Thank you, for your assistance with this query. Sincerely, Lisa

We are staying at the Swan in July. I keep reading about the mold problem and am really worried. Do all of the rooms have this problem? Do you think it would be proper to request not to be put in a room with a mold problem? Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.
This problem was SUPPOSEDLY ameliorated with the renovations, completed more than a year ago. Therefore, the post submitted by hookedup reflects the 12th floor as being one of the LAST on the renovation schedule. :thumbsup2 Therefore, all the rooms should now be CLEAR of any mildew/mold. If you ever detect anything NOT to your liking upon entering your room---please, promptly pick up the phone and call the front desk ASAP (before you unpack, or use the bathroom--preferably). Explain your problem with the room, and you will be moved to something more suitable. :goodvibes

Thanks dreamflight for all your great answers. One more quick question for now...Do you just ask for the sports bottle, coloring book or foam bath toys, or is it with some special promotion?
You're welcome, glad to be of help. :) You may simply ASK for this package during check-in, and any associate at the front desk should be able to assist you with this matter. If not, refer to housekeeping (by dialing *66 on your phone once in your room). They have some great "other" items in these packages, which your children should LOVE (some are Disney resort specific)!

YES!

Also, can someone tell me about refillable mugs at Tubbi's. Have you done this recently? How much are they? Can I get Starbuck's and Diet coke with them? Can I use them at the other S/D restaurants?Yes, as Gail replied! These mugs are fabulous, and can be filled with everything including hot cocoa and FLAVORED STARBUCKS coffee. They may be used between both resorts! We use them by the pool too. They will fill them for us (nice peach iced tea this past summer!). :cloud9: I've only used them inside at Tubbi's, but I'm sure others would fill them if you asked kindly. :confused3

??? We won't have "meds" per-se. Formula and bottles, which could be ruined technically if they get too warm. Do you think they will waive it for that?
You'll never know unless you ask. They have done it in the past. They also waive a roll-away, if a member of your party finds the beds uncomfortable (or prefers the rollaway over the bed for any reason). This is a little-known factoid as well). ;) Of course, with the heavenly beds...who would be uncomfortable? Well, you just NEVER know! :confused3

We paid for a "standard room" or a "club level room." Didn't have the option for preferred view, and DH's company won't buy club level. I will plan to call a little closer and speak to someone about our situation just to be safe. Yes, this is your BEST choice. Also, please STRESS to the person you speak with that this is a PLEASURE TRIP for "YOU and the KIDS" (even though your DH is traveling on business). Let them know if he were all alone on this trip--he would not give a hoot about his view. BUT, since he is bringing his family along, he would appreciate the best view of the KINGDOM and WATER, etc--available. It would make all the difference in the world to you and your family. :wizard:

Are these rooms larger, too? Or just with more view?Actually, a bit of both. Schematics have reflected they are larger by a few mere square feet over the other rooms down the wing. There are other rooms which are "larger" too...(standard rooms also), and these are the rooms which connect with the EXECUTIVE PARLORS at the beginning of the inside/hall.

The numbers of these rooms are as follows: (5033, 6033, 7033, etc). They are all connecting rooms with the corner parlors (5009, 6009, 7009), and are a bit larger by design and location. These rooms are devoid of a balcony, and the windows are inset---but they still offer a nice (perfect) view of the SPACESHIP EARTH and the LAKE, etc. :yay:

heidiboo~Gail is indeed correct, and the standard rooms are sans the balconies. YET--most all rooms at the SWAN offer some beautiful views, even the standards off the back of the building. They look down the river canal where you may watch the boats coming/going to/from MGM with guests, and see folks fishing from the banks of the water, and/or watch groups of visitors RUNNING down the walking path to escape a sudden downpour!! The landscaping is beautiful, lush and tropical. There truly is not a BAD view from any room at the magical WDW Swan resort (IMHO). So...go check those RATES!! :lovestruc

~It's been ages since I've stayed in the Swan, (more of a DOLPHIN~lover) Yet, I can properly address your query. Room #1059 is on the EAST (South EAST--near end of the wing), offering a full MGM view and a partial Epcot view. It's a KING room with a king bed, and no balcony (if my schematics are correct). Over at the Dolphin, #1059 is considered a CENTRAL room, with a limited view of Epcot. I have not stayed in either room, but know where these are located within the property. At the SWAN, it's not really considered a "preferred" view, so you may book a standard room rate (and request this room SPECIFICALLY) at the time you make your reservation. I trust this answers your question. ;)

We will be staying at the Swan in a 2 bdrm grand suite (there's 7 of us-me, dh, 4 kids-14,10,10, 4-and dmil) later this year. Can't wait to try out the Swan! Any tips on good restaurants, special things to do while staying at the Swan! :cool1:

Dreamflight: Thanks!!! I have some asking to do. Can't wait.
You mention requesting specific rooms. Does that seem to work better than requesting a view? We will definitely stress how much fun mom and baby want to have on the first trip to the world for our little one.

Also, one more question - I assume we get free parking at the parks since we are resort guests, is this true for S/D guest as well as Disney hotel guests? We will not be driving/parking a car at our hotel, but we may carpool with family staying off-property. Could I request a park parking pass and use it in her car on the days we carpool? Or is that a no-no?

Great info here! You guys are wonderful.

Yes, in my opinion...it always works best for us (as I enjoy knowing in advance which suite we will be occupying when visiting the Dolphin). Another nice aspect about blocking in advance is the opportunity to "block" more than the time you currently intend to visit, (and then ADD a couple days to your itinerary if your schedule permits).

It's so much easier to call and CANCEL days, than it is to ADD them. The rooms GO so quickly, hence they are "reserved and booked" by the time many decide to "extend" their stay or change their dates. I commonly block three consecutive months before selecting the EXACT dates (and do this up to/more than a year in advance). At least I know my suite is SECURE this way. ;) I've tried it the other way around, and the stress was just TOO much. Besides, it doesn't cost any more whether you reserve one day, or 100 days. So, keep this in mind when reserving your room/dates.

YES, you may definitely request a FREE parking pass for the days you "car pool" with your FAMILY (Swan/Dolphin are included in this perk). Are you sure you want to DRIVE and PARK? The only parks I would even "consider" PARKING at, would be the MK and AK (as these are the BUS transportation parks). There is NO REASON to drive/park to MGM and EPCOT! The BOATS are the BEST reason for staying at the Dolphin, etc. Your family is welcome to pay to park for the afternoon/day in the Dolphin, and use the BOATS with you (to/from these parks). OR, you could always drive and pick them up (then they could leave their vehicle at their off-property resort). Either way, they would LOVE the boat ride (which is almost an attraction in and of itself) to/from these two parks. If you are going to MGM, it's the FASTEST ride! They pick you up and OFF you go...straight to the park. You are also the first stop on the way back! If you are going to Epcot...you are the third stop most of the time. BUT---this changes from time to time depending upon who is driving.

***NOTE: Here's another little fun tip. When standing at the boat dock...awaiting your transportation to arrive (Friendship #1, 2, 3, or 4, etc), it's truly EASY to predict WHICH BOAT is coming, and WHERE it's going just by watching the approach. Most folks have no idea, but it's not Rocket Science. When the boat comes from UNDER the bridge directly in front of the dock (coming from the large central BAY), this boat is the "MGM" boat. It's on it's way to MGM studios...and is picking up the last passengers at the Dolphin/Swan before heading to this park. This boat originated at Epcot, and has dropped off passengers at the YC/BC, and BWI before heading to the Dolphin/Swan. Each boat does a FULL LOOP before starting over again. Sometimes, there are two boats running. Sometimes, as many as 4 or more may be operating (depending on the time of year, events, etc).

When the boat comes from the bridge to the RIGHT of the dock area, this boat is the "EPCOT" boat. It is coming FROM MGM studios, and will be dropping off all the passengers beginning with the Dolphin/Swan, before heading over to EPCOT. It's just a little bit of knowledge to help you on the days you are running late, etc. If you see a boat coming just as you exit the hotel, you'll know whether to RUN to catch it, or not (if it's your desired boat, etc). :thumbsup2 Saves a LOT of anguish, and makes for a lot of FUN too!

Glad you are enjoying this thread and all the wonderful information to be found here. :cloud9:

Yes...there is plenty of info to be obtained on such features here on this thread! :goodvibes The most obvious would be the CHARACTER BREAKFAST served in the Swan's own GULLIVER'S Restaurant! You have children still at a "fun" age for such stuff (esp. the 4 YO). :clown:

Both of these properties tout some critically acclaimed restaurant locations, such as the "Blue Zoo, Shula's Steakhouse, Palio's, Kimono's, Fresh, etc." All are fabulous, depending upon what type of cuisine you would prefer/enjoy. Some are more suited for families, some for adults. You also have the "World" at your fingertips (Epcot World Showcase) where the TEPPAN GRILL would prove to be a PERFECT NIGHT OUT for the 7 of you! You would fill a grill table perfectly, thus enjoy an amazing private "show" performed by one of the best TEPPAN CHEFS around (Teppan-yaki). The food here is artistically prepared, and absolutely some of the BEST we have ever enjoyed at WDW. We dine here a minimum of once per week while on property, (sometimes more). Everything is amazing, and the kid's menu also fabulous!

You also have MGM Studios, not to mention all the restaurants located on the Boardwalk, and in the Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts too. The Prime Rib sandwich at "Beaches and Cream" is amazing (Beach Club). The ages steaks at the Yachtsman and Shula's are also notable. The Flying fish and Spoodles are great places for some fine food/service. ESPN is a BLAST for your entire family (as the kids can actually play VIDEO GAMES on a private system at your table/booth, while awaiting for their food, etc. You just "check-out" a few of the wireless controllers (your server will assist you with this), and they are OFF!! The food is also delicious, with the HOT WINGS in a BUCKET being a favorite appetizer (you select the nitro sauce, mild-hot-or rocket fuel!).

There are SO many great places to enjoy while in the Epcot resorts area. It's simply one of the best locations to stay, on the entire WDW property (IMHO).

To further offer assistance, please tell us what type of food you enjoy? Are you looking for "family style" restaurants or a night-out for the adults in your group (or both)? We have dined at every location possible....and the opportunities are overwhelming and endless! :yay:

You are going to LOVE the Grand suite at the Swan, truly beautiful accommodations (your children will be thrilled!). The room service is amazing too. They offer a kid's menu, which is surprisingly flexible with ample servings. The breakfasts are incredible (pancakes are big surprise!), and all the selections are delicious. You truly can't go wrong at the Swan.

Hope this helps!

We are leaving in about 50 some days so I decided to check on our reservations. I got some sad news from our favorite hotel, the Dolphin. Tubbi's is now closed and it's expected to reopen as Peekaboos, a similiar family friendly eatery. It is set to reopen on April 1st, right in the middle of our vacation. My kids are going to be so disappointed. Not sure why, but my kids loved Tubbi's. I guess we will be eating at the hotel bar for breakfast for part of our vacation.

I knew this was scheduled to take place...and was cringing as to WHEN someone would post the information on this change and dates. :sad2:

As I wrote before, I detest such changes, and prefer the continuity of SAME-NAME recognition, etc. It's one of the things which keeps us returning to the same place, again and again. There is a certain degree of comfort to be found in this "rule" of life. It's actually one of the reasons we enjoy returning to WDW theme parks, to ride/experience the same attractions again and again. I am horribly saddened when they close/change attractions in the parks, and miss many of the ones gone by. The old ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, River Country, Delta Dreamflight, :wizard: and too many others to name. There are some terrible rumors of others being closed permanently as well (ie: Spaceship earth, Timekeeper and the Carousel of Progress).

Apparently some kind of new Monsters Inc. attraction that may use similar technology to Turtle Talk w/ Crush was being looked at for Timekeeper while something themed to the Incredibles was planned for the CoP building. Given the nature of the building, I’ve got to wonder if it might not be some kind of new animatronic show about the superhero family instead of a new ride. If anyone has heard anything more about any of these projects or other new ideas, let me know. Hopefully, this is just rumor---and nothing more. CoP has been slated for execution on numerous occasions. Also, Spaceship Earth may be replaced with something more "modern" and updated as part of the upcoming 35th Anniversary plans. You would NOT like to hear/read some of the OTHER info I received recently, (since the Pixar/WDW merger is in the works...I am privy to LOTS more inside info), it's heartbreaking. So...what people do not know, will not hurt them (only me...as I KNOW). Even though it's not been solidified, or 100% confirmed...and the date of closure/change is in the future, it's sure to dishearten many families. :sad2: :worried:

I have to agree with your kids, and prefer the OLD TUBBI'S! It's the name, along with just the general style and feel of the little cafe (it's a heck of a lot "warmer" than the cafeteria in AKL or many other places). I will MISS IT dearly (for whatever that's worth). :lovestruc I have been assured, the old standards will still be available, such as the Chicken noodle soup (a staple of mine while living there during the summer), and the burgers, steaks, etc. Nothing much will change, except the decor and some extra food items. It will be BETTER than before (or so I've been assured).

To go even farther back...I miss the CORAL CAFE (where BLUE ZOO now sits), with the pirate Captain DON as host, and his hostess partner WINKY both standing helm at the door! I remember Harry's (the jungle-themed restaurant, with some GREAT ribs), and a few others whom have come/gone over the years. There was a wonderful Mexican Cantina where FRESH currently serves from, and too many more to count.

Change...is inevitable. BUT...we do not have to LIKE it. :p

Sorry you had to experience this DURING the midst of your visit. Be sure to call and speak directly to the hotel manager about this change, and how it affects you/your children. He may offer a substitution (such as a % off room service breakfast for you and the kids). If he fails to offer, please ask. It's always worth a try, and much better than dining in the hotel BAR each am! If he fails to respond, I know someone there who can very possibly help in the matter (sounds like the "Mocking bird" nursery rhyme). The upside to all of this is...you & your children will be present during a GRAND OPENING pixiedust: of a DOLPHIN RESTAURANT! This is a great event, and should prove to be both entertaining and exciting. Bring the kids, and make it the BEST experience for their sake (something us parents are adept at doing, game-face and all!). :cloud9:

Take care, and enjoy your present "50-day and counting" WDW DOLPHIN DREAMING! :wizard:

Man, I can't catch a break! During our last stay at the Dolphin in September the Dolphin Fountain was closed for renovations.

Next week (to this very day :cool1: ) I'll be staying at the Swan and now Tubbi's will be closed! I was looking forward to my evening Haagen Dazs Dulce de Leche bar from Tubbi's upon return from the parks!

pro_ddb_101.jpg

My DD is attending an event that begins around 6am and on three evenings can end as late as 12pm; I was counting on 5am breakfast runs to TUBBI's, as well as 1am "refueling" stops on the way up to the room.

Our reservation in March was booked at the Dolphin specifically because TUBBI'S was available 24 hours.(normally we've stayed at the YC) I know room service is an option, but I don't like to rely on that when timing is crucial...too many opportunities for error. What time does the lobby bar begin/end service, and what is available?

We were really looking forward to trying the Dolphin, now I'm not so sure.

Is is possible to walk to the Epcot from the Swan or Dolphin if you are not a very good walker?

just told my kids that Tubbi's won't be around this vacation. Shock is an understatement. At least we still have a picture of the cute Tubbi's sign with the kids from the last visit. Peekaboos here we come.

We have photos of that sign as well, from two different trips with my boys posed next to it! Long live Tubbi!

Is is possible to walk to the Epcot from the Swan or Dolphin if you are not a very good walker?

If you mean you have trouble walking distances, then you might want to just hop aboard one of the Friendship Boats and let them do the driving. It's not that far of a walk, at least I don't think so. But if you can't walk for longer than 15 mins. then you might want to rethink it.

If you can make it as far as the Boardwalk, you can hop the boat from there and cruise over to the Dolphin/Swan boatdock. It's not that much farther, but if you need the rest, that option is available.

I just used Starpoints to reserve a week in October at the Swan. We have stayed at many WDW resorts and DL resorts. What should we expect at the Swan? Is it comparable to a WDW Deluxe Resort? How does it compare to other Starwood Properties, i.e. Sheraton, Westin and W? How do Extra Magic Hours work for Swan guests?

Thanks

EMH works exactly the same way as it does for the other WDW resorts, as does the transportation.

We find the Dolphin and Swan to be deluxe in every sense of the word. You'll read some opinions to the contrary, but we've always had nothing but wonderful stays at both S/D. It's an Epcot resort with some beautiful views of Epcot and MGM since both resorts have higher floors.

What!!!! I am incensed. :furious: We have a 10 mo. old, and one of the reasons we could handle a hotel room instead of condo for our upcoming trip is because of Tubbi's being RIGHT THERE!! We will need those quick breakfasts and dinners, a microwave, fruit and yogurt, drinks and the rest. What am I supposed to do for quick counter service meals when I'm alone with a little one at the end of the day (DH and SO MANY OTHERS will be at a convention from 7am until ??? every day). I'm so glad that there are these outlets for getting this information since no one bothered to contact us with this from the hotel (let alone respond to a direct email regarding a room request)! Time to rethink the whole thing. I can't understand why they wait until peak season to perform this "upgrade."
This saddens me too since we had heard so many great things, and now I feel our first experience at the S/D will begin on a sour note.

Rant over, I guess. But if anyone can offer tips for handling this with DD in tow, I'd appreciate it. I'm feeling almost forced to pay that fridge rental fee and bring groceries (NOT what I'd prefer). Perhaps I could ask for club level access as compensation? I'm sure that's a stretch.

As soon as someone has details, I'd like to know what "eating at the hotel bar for breakfast" means. Is this a regular offering, or a substitute while Tubbis is closed? Do they have CS or TS and are quick carryout items and cold foods available. Thanks!

I'm another one who had looked forward to a hot fudge sundae at the Dolphin Fountain in October, only to find it boarded up! Thank goodness it had reopened when I returned at the end of November. :) And now Tubbi's will be closed when we are there the 3rd week of March...so much for the refillable mugs! :(
