I'm another one who had looked forward to a hot fudge sundae at the Dolphin Fountain in October, only to find it boarded up! Thank goodness it had reopened when I returned at the end of November. :) And now Tubbi's will be closed when we are there the 3rd week of March...so much for the refillable mugs! :(

Good point about the mugs - has anyone heard how they'll handle that??

Yes, in my opinion...it always works best for us (as I enjoy knowing in advance which suite we will be occupying when visiting the Dolphin).
YES, you may definitely request a FREE parking pass for the days you "car pool" with your FAMILY (Swan/Dolphin are included in this perk). Are you sure you want to DRIVE and PARK? The only parks I would even "consider" PARKING at, would be the MK and AK (as these are the BUS transportation parks).

Thanks for the tips. We will have lots to talk about when I call about our reservation.
As for the parking, that's great to know. The only reason we would carpool is to avoid the bus with a big stroller to MK and AK. (of course then you still have the tram) and also because that way I would have help with baby and stroller. That's a no brainer with EPCOT and MGM for the reasons you mentioned.
I hadn't considered DS parking at our hotel for going with us to EPCOT and MGM. Might be a $ or 2 cheaper than park parking for them, and it'd definitely be easier to hook up at our hotel rather than in a park. Plus I wouldn't feel terrible about the "ethics" of it since they'd be paying and we won't have another car associated with our room.

My DD is attending an event that begins around 6am and on three evenings can end as late as 12pm; I was counting on 5am breakfast runs to TUBBI's, as well as 1am "refueling" stops on the way up to the room.

Our reservation in March was booked at the Dolphin specifically because TUBBI'S was available 24 hours.(normally we've stayed at the YC) I know room service is an option, but I don't like to rely on that when timing is crucial...too many opportunities for error. What time does the lobby bar begin/end service, and what is available?
We were really looking forward to trying the Dolphin, now I'm not so sure.

Bumping...anyone have ideas? I don't know what the normal open/close hours are for the other dining options, where can I find that?
TIA

Bluefairy-
I am in a difficult position as well. I am bringing my 2 handicapped brothers and my DM with my whole family on this trip. One DB needs constant hydration. Spoke to hotel yesterday and said they couldn't do anything for my mom and brothers. I'm sure everything will go fine, it will just be a little more complicated. But we'll still be in Disney, so I'm sure it will be wonderful!

I think its wonderful that you have such a positive attitude! Hopefully you are right. I can't believe that in your situation they offered no alternatives! Whom did you speak with? Did they happen to suggest how you might work around being without Tubbi's?
I'm just flabbergasted that this is the situation. Normally I'm very hesitant to stay at a non-Disney resort, but with the convention and the rate we just couldn't justify going elsewhere. People here absolutely RAVE about the S/D, but with this and the other complaints I've heard recently I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about being there, especially since they are sold out for the convention and the place will be packed. How do you get good service when they are swamped with so much business? Hopefully it will be ok, or even wonderful, but right now I'm preparing myself for missing out on that magic that I've heard so much about.

BTW, DH's company had asked that he try to keep food costs down, another reason we were banking on Tubbis. Are the Dolphin Fountain and the pool bar good options for quick counter service food at lunchtime for him?

ETA:
Just sent this question to S/D via a form on the dining section of their website. We'll see about a response:
"My husband is attending a the SANS 2006 meeting there 2/24 - 3/3/06. Our infant daughter and I will be staying at the Dolphin with him for vacation during this time. I understand that Tubbi's has been closed. Can you tell me where I will be able to buy fruit, yogurt, cold cereals and such, quick counter service lunch and dinners, refillable mugs, and also use a microwave for heating baby food and bottles during our stay? We are VERY concerned about the effect this unadvertised closure will have on our enjoyment of the trip and on our dining budget.
Thank you."

EXCELLENT email inquiry!! BTW, I do not find your idea for requesting club level as excessive at all (especially in this situation). Call the resort, and speak with a front desk manager. Be very direct and concise, but also pleasant. Explain everything you have detailed here. Please, kindly let me know of their response.

losnow~As Blondie replied, it's not too far, but it is significant if you have trouble walking (due to any variety of reasons). The boats are also air conditioned, and much more comfortable and less-taxing on the heart, during the VERY hot weather which will be arriving in WDW soon. ;) I would walk to the BW first, where you can SEE Epcot...before deciding if you wished to "try it" or just hop on the friendship boat. :confused3 Hope this helps.

There is a nice gazebo overlooking the water to rest in about 1/2 of the way between the resorts and park, also...there are plenty of benches all along the path. Take it slowly, and it's not too far. At night, it's a wonderful walk back (just a slow stroll is perfect), with all the lights of the hotels and boardwalk gleaming off the reflective surface of the lake. It's my favorite thing to do...close the park (stay in a restaurant until after the park has closed and everyone has left), and stroll with security to the gates (where they LOCK it UP behind us). Times such as these make for fabulous memories. :cloud9:

CaptHook~Congrats on your recent reservation! Yes, as Blondie reported...we too find it DELUXE in every aspect. In many, we actually PREFER it to WDW resorts. We have stayed in every WDW DELUXE resort on property (w/exception to the AKL). The Swan/Dolphin meet/exceed the standards of all the Disney properties. :goodvibes

As for family visiting you and taking the boat to the parks--poses no ethics problem at all (but, it's nice to see you care). :thumbsup2 Guests are permitted/welcomed to have visitors from other areas, resorts, etc.--and these guests may use the hotel facilities as well (pool, restaurants and transportation) within reason. This means, not 100 guests...lol. Although, the hotel would make exceptions for family reunions, etc. :smooth:

MUGS...~They will HAVE to refill them at the FOUNTAIN, I'm sure. :confused3 They already do this on occasion, and I've had no problem refilling mine while waiting for ice cream sundaes.

luvdmouse~Who ever you spoke with when you called, misinformed you. Did you by chance write down and/or record this associates name? I would be interested in passing this information on to someone accountable. For this oversight, I sincerely apologize. The hotel CAN and WILL most certainly DO SOMETHING for your family, and two brothers. Please, wait until you arrive at the property and inquire in person at the front desk. Along with the free refills of soda *(which due to the closure of Tubbi's will be available at the Fountain, so I'm told), you will be able to obtain a complimentary refridgerator to use for keeping beverages stocked in your room, along with other assistance.

**PLEASE: DO not PANIC about Tubbi's, as there will be an alternative offered (I'm assured). This is terrible...yes, but an inconvenience born of corporate ignorance. They always put the CART before the HORSE. I usually don't mind, as long as the cart is ELECTRIC/MOTORIZED!! LOL. :lmao: This will be straightened-out soon, and we will all be breathing a little easier. It's nice to see people so passionate about TUBBI'S...it will always be one of our favorite spots. :lovestruc

Blondie...it's truly so nice to see you here! You are still an endless book of WDW info (including the Swan and Dolphin)...and so generous & kind with your help. Seems like old times.

TTFN...TGIF...enjoy the weekend! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Thanks Lisa, just trying to psych myself up for our 'adults only' :woohoo: trip next week, though I had a bit of a health scare with my 15 y.o. son this morning and ended in the ER. He's not out of the woods just yet, but with hope and a prayer he'll be fine by the time we leave. Then I get a call that my 93 y.o. grandmother is back in the hospital again (COPD) with difficulty breathing. God bless her, she's a fighter, but one of these days I'm afraid she's going to give in. I feel like I'm going to see the grim reaper in my rearview mirror every time I get in my car! :sad2: It seems like the last three times we had a WDW trip planned, someone was either sick or dying. Enough is enough already!

I have a son with severe scoloiosis...awaiting his brace. We are tagging along with my DH who will be there for a confrence. His work would only book us a standard room...but there is 5 of us. Do you think I could ask for a room with a couch? I am worried about his back problem. Can I even get a room with two double beds and a couch or sleeper sofa? Also does anyone know if the hotel rents wheelchairs (he also has lung problems...hard for him to walk long distances) Thanks!

Oh, heavens. I had no idea Tubbi's was going to be closed for our upcoming trip--we leave 2/10. My dd is going to have a hissy fit. She's been telling me for the last week about how much she's looking forward to a Tubbi's grilled cheese--her favorite meal in all of WDW.

I'm also concerned about what we'll do for refillable mugs. Will they even have them for sale? I buy new ones each trip like a good girl. :teeth: I definitely need my Diet Coke in the morning and now I'm freaking out about breakfasts. What a pain in the patootie.

Anyone know the exact date for Tubbi's to re-open? We will be there April 14! We have never stayed at the Dolphin and really want to get the mugs too!

the guy at the Dolphin concierge desk told me the new restaurant would open around April 1st. Sounds like you're in luck.

I don't think the rooms with 2 beds have a sofa, so you would need a rollaway for the 5th person. My room at the Dolphin in November had 2 beds...and I think it had just an upholstered chair...no sofa or sofabed.

Apparently you won't be able to get refillable mugs while Tubbi's is closed: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1020423

Just booked a balcony room for 8 nights at the Dolphin using the great Teacher's discount. Have been reading through this thread and love all the great info!

We're thinking of getting a rollaway for my 17 year old (will be 4 of us) since he's a restless sleeper and can't sleep with anyone else. Should I request one now or is it ok to wait until check-in? Also, are reduced fee upgrades available at check-in? Was thinking of either CL or a Jr. Suite. What could I expect to pay at check-in if one is available?

Thanks for the all the great info especially for a Dolphin newbie like myself!

I know it's not this kind of dolphin, but I couldn't resist.

When is your trip? The Club level is being discontinued as of May (?) 1st.

Thanks for the link, Nancy. I threw this trip together pretty quickly and hadn't been really checking the boards and missed that thread.

I guess I'll go around the house and collect the mugs we have. I know I have one at work and I think dd has one in her room. :teeth: I'm going to feel like such a rebel re-using a refillable mug.

My 15 yo Drama Queen was so upset last night when I told her this. She actually told me, "Tubbi's is my FAVORITE thing about WDW." :lmao:

Hi...I was wondering if anyone had comments or reviews on the new spa at the Dolphin? I'll be there in Apriil and would love some recommendations. Thanks so much! :cloud9:
