New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

I think it’s a safe bet that all four ships will be uniform in design. Two separate designs would add hundreds of millions in design and construction costs. Disney probably got a sweet deal from the near-bankrupt ship builder in order to move forward with this order.
Just for discussion. Since the OLC ship has been designated a WISH class and is coming (2028) after the first of the new 4 (2027), don't you think that logic would apply also?

It’s logical to presume they might be Wish Class.

Neither Meyer Werft or Disney gave any information on Size and class of the four new ships when the deal was announced.

It’s very possible that the ships will be Triton. Even if they don’t go with the Triton class, I would not be surprised if the next gen designed is based on it (just larger in some ways).

Popular Cruising on YouTube has posted a video which explains that the Triton Class has been build in the larger of the two covered building docks at Meyer Werft. However, Carnival has another Excel Class ship being build in this dock in 2027. This means that the new DCL class will have to be built in the smaller Meyer Werft building, so they’ll have to be smaller than the Triton Class.
Couple of things. First, if they do end up using the smaller building, this would be pretty cool and a big departure from the rest of the cruise industry. That shipyard recently made the Silver Nova, which uses an asymmetrical design (see deckplan), with one set of elevators on the left side and another set of elevators on the right, rather than through the middle. I believe the advantage of this was larger staterooms, since they have very narrow hallways and no interior space for crew/laundry/etc. For Disney, this could mean lots of large family suites and/or walk-in closets in most cabins.

An example of the Silver Nova asymmetric design with super narrow interior:

Secondly, I do think they have room in the schedule in the big building. It looks like the Carnival ship will be delivered in 2028. The 4th Wish-class ship will also be delivered in 2028. So I think the schedule could be something like this:
  1. DCL Triton-class (Disney Destiny) [2025]
  2. New Class of DCL ship #1 [2027]
  3. Carnival Excel-class [2028]
  4. DCL Triton-class (4th TBD) [2028]
  5. New Class of DCL ship #2 [2029]
  6. New Class of DCL ship #3 [2030]
  7. New Class of DCL ship #4 [2031]
There's some overlap with the 4th DCL Triton ship and the Carnival Excel-class ship, but I think that could be an artifact of different press releases stating different types of key dates.

Meyer Werft says both Carnival and DCL to be delivered in 2027.... Right from their delivery schedule search. (not my highlighting) The OLC ship (4th WISH) has always shown 2028

As of August 12, 2024, German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has confirmed that they will deliver four ships to Disney Cruise Line between 2027 and 2031. This is the largest order in Meyer Werft's history, and the ships will be part of a long-standing partnership between the two companies. Meyer Werft also has other ships in the works, including:

  • Carnival Cruise Line
A sister ship to the Carnival Jubilee, which was delivered in 2023, is scheduled for delivery in 2027. The ship will be about 344 meters long, weigh around 180,000 GT, and have space for more than 6,400 passengers. It will also be equipped to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

I think this is all a non-issue because Meyer Werft was building 2 large ships per year before Covid, and there's no reason they couldn't go back to that starting in 2027.

Based on announced delivery dates my understanding of the current build order is:
Disney Destiny (Late 2025)
Carnival Excel #4 (Spring 2027)
Disney new order #1 (2027)
Carnival Excel #5 (2028)
OLC Disney (Late 2028)
Disney new order #2 (???)
Disney new order #3 (???)
Disney new order #4 (2031)

Yes. This. They also now can build blocks outside (at their subsidiary Neptun Werft) and deliver them to the big dock. This way ships take up the big dock for much shorter time.

Very disappointed about the lack of ports on the disney Adventure. Its not really an adventure if you are just getting on the ship for 3 or 4 days and then getting off again. They could simply leave port and drop anchor and then come back at the end of the cruise. I know they are supposed to have great things to do ect but it gives me a bit of the star wars galactic cruiser vibe.

I really dont understand how singapore is going to have enough demand for this for all year round. Singapore only has a population of less then 6 million people.

Because they're not relying solely on Singaporeans to fill the ship. Singapore is pretty much the centre of South East Asia, they get a LOT of tourists from countless Asian countries, India, Australia, New Zealand plus those from further afield in Europe, the UK and the US. You have some of the world's most populated countries within several hours flight time.

I apologise for the generalisation, but there are certain people that need to start realising the entire world doesn't operate the same way it does in the States, where the vast majority of people visiting Disney or going on the cruises are citizens of that country. I've seen comments on other sites that people "aren't flying all the way to Singapore for a cruise to nowhere". That's fine, because those people aren't the ones Disney is trying to target with this ship.

The Adventure sure isn't looking very Disney-ish. Just like the room concepts... it increasingly looks like they all they've done to the original Genting design is added is some new wallpaper and a bit of Disney art and called it good.

It'll be a unique ship, that's for certain. I'm interested in seeing how they use the rest of the "Central Park"-type space.

I really like the look of this area! And the sound of the eateries too.

There are definitely people out there that will fly just for a ship… like I’m finally going on the Wish in September and the ship really is my destination. Same for the Adventure (and bonus I can see my friend at the same time) but I’ll likely pair it with Hong Kong Disneyland.

I’m probably one of the only people who thinks this, but I think the interior design looks awful. Disney is ruining what DCL used to be.

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. This tweet here compares designs and the DCL design is much more elaborate. They are leaning heavily into the Victorian and Art Nouveau design they used for their high end hotels in all the resorts.

If I remember hearing correctly the cruise line kicked the tires and the ship and wasn't thrilled with the idea of buying it but the other Bob thought it was too good a deal to pass up.

I think anything that was heard of that sort was just rumors as nothing in that regard has been shared by the team or who I’ve talked to in leadership.
