I got my new debit card from the Bank and none of the numbers are raised. It is a little odd as I have never seen a card that way.

So how long you had this type of card?

I got one when I opened an account at a new bank in January. It's for security; you can't quickly take a rubbed impression of the card.

would have reminded me of a key to the world card and i would have begun to spend uncontrollably.

I don't have one. I'm guessing that it's not too far off in the distant future though.

Three of my coworkers have had them for a while. One was because he lost his former card, so they reissued the non-raised numbers, the other because hers was compromised (?) I believe. Every now and then a waitress comments on it at lunch, but not too often.

I got a replacement card in November and it doesn't have raised numbers. I agree, it looked strange and "fake" at first!

My new chase card is like this-I knew something was "fishy" about it!
:lmao:

Weird. I just received new Chase credit cards (others expiring) in the mail today & they are still raised. I mean when was the last time you went somewhere that used one of those manual imprint machines with the carbon paper forms to charge something?

Actually I went to a local wine festival and all the vendors had them. So the imprint machines do pop up every now and then.

Actually, a lot of places use them but mainly for backup. If the POS system goes down then they must take imprints of cards to complete sales. I wonder what will happen if all cards go to non raised numbers.

I got my new Chase card in February and the numbers are raised :confused3

Well I suppose it is going to be a thing of the past.

Interesting that others are not getting them yet.

I think a lot of places still have them in case their machines go down...they still will want to make a sale even if their machines are down. I went to buy a present for my MIL this past Xmas and the lady at the booth at the mall had no idea how to run the machine and the guy who was supposed to teach her was late for work. So she said she'd just use the old machine...needless to say I kept a good eye on my statements in case she held on to a copy and went on a spending spree.

We just saw them at the Indy gun and knife show this weekend.

Also, when mom and dad do the craft festival circuit, they have to have the imprint machine, as most of the booths are out doors and there is no phone hook up to take the machine from her store with them.

You need to prepare mom and dad for cards without the imprint. I guess it is either a trial thing or going to be a permanent thing.:confused3

My wife sells handturned pens at some shows. She went with a battery powered machine that connects with the bank using cellular. It then prints out a signature copy and reciept. It's a pretty handy tool and the fees aren't too bad.

FYI, you can fill in a credit charge slip WITHOUT having to run it thru an imprint machine. Not something people do often, but you can do it.

As for seeing those around, I guess I'm just not going to the right places. I've seen swipe machines at craft sales & huge antique shows. I guess it just is up to the vendor and how much business they do since they pay a higher fee for POS. BUT, they'll also know if something is denied right away too. Those little guys are taking a chance with the imprints getting approved. I understand their cost situation though.

So, a flat card can still me used if no POS available.

When you're buying from Amish artisans they always have the imprint machines. As do some of the delivery places around here.

This is what I have seen it used for. I can think of several times when stores' machines or power have gone out, and they have used these. I know you can write it down without the imprint, but it is my understanding that the credit card company will request the imprint if there is ever a dispute to prove the card was there. How do you prove that without an imprint?

Oh, well, doesn't really affect me. But my husband did get a new card a few weeks ago, and it still had raised numbers.

OK, all good examples of where & when imprints are needed.

Sounds just like where I used to work. Someone changed the rules or procedures without thinking the entire thing through.
