I finally ordered the D80(DD has my D50 at college) and it came today! I ordered it from Beach with free shipping on Thursday. I can't believe how fast it got here. I just got home from work so I put lens on it and the battery on the charger. Can't wait to play with it in the a.m.:woohoo:

Awesome!!! I hope to get mine for Christmas this year. Have fun!! :cool1:

Why did you decide on the D80 rather than the new D90?

I've been weighing the two in my mind and think I've finally settled on the D90, other than the price tag. ::MinnieMo

Price was the deciding factor- $782.95 with the 18-135mm lens. I really like my D50, it really has everything I need so I figured the the step up to the D80with its few extra features would suit me fine. So far no complaints.

Thanks. Glad to know I'm not the only one a little scared of the price of the D90. The feature I really like on the D90 is live view. Don't think I'd use it a whole lot, but there are times when I know it would come in handy. Don't really think I'd use the video feature much either, but maybe in a pinch it would be nice to have. The salesperson in our local camera store (not chain store), also said the D90 is really good in low light situations, which is another reason I may just bite the bullet and spend the extra money on it instead of the D80. ::MinnieMo

What do you have now? I would have gone the D90 route if I didn't mind spending the extra $$- it being brand new and all. Since I was happy with my D50 I didn't think I'd miss the live view or video so I really couldn't justify the extra $$. You'll love which ever one you decide to go with:)

I still have a Minolta Maxxum film camera. My husband has a Konica/Minolta Maxxum 5D, which I use a lot and have enjoyed. I've become so spoiled using his digital camera that I want my own. I know that the Sony models would be compatible with the lenses we already have, but from what I've read they really aren't as good as the Nikons or Canons. After looking at the Nikons and Canons, I decided I liked the D80. Then, they came out with the D90 just in time to complicate my decision! ::MinnieMo

You live near B&H? That sounds dangerous(to the bank account):lmao:

It is!!!! I only had a Pentax K100D that I wasn't thrilled with and knew I was going to be getting something better so I didn't really invest in it, but I was akways in B&H looking at all the toys I COULD have. With the D80 I'll have a hard time trying to remember I have bills to pay.
