For quite some time now, Disney Parks fans have been discussing the possibility of purchasing FastPasses to attractions and entertainment experiences. Rumors have circulated for years that this would be the next direction Disney would go in whether it be done directly by buying an allotment of passes or indirectly based on the hotel tier a guest reserves accommodations at. Now that FastPass+ has come to fruition, the conversation has died down…that is, until today, and I was immediately sucked in.

In my analysis of it, I would have to look up how much time the tour takes up, especially since, in the article, the author says he/she doesn't really want the tour. Can you experience those attractions with (or without) fastpasses in the time you "waste" in the tour? If so, then you're paying Disney to waste your time. If not, then you have to enter into a personal cost/benefit analysis to determine if $20 is worth the amount of time saved.

I may do it one time just to get the pin and lanyard! DH and I have talked about doing tours, but I would want it to be a true tour and not just a free pass to get on a ride. I think in most cases a tour guide would slow me down!

I feel like we are slowly being desensitized to the idea of buying additional fastpasses. I think it's coming and I already feel a little robbed.

We are going next week and, for the first time, we will be using the new system. We are theme park commandos and used 6 to 8 fastpasses a day. We like to ride the mountains many times in the same day. This will be a totally different trip for us. I'm excited, but trying to keep in mind the different experience we will have.

I don't think Disney is trying to suggest that we buy fastpasses; I think that was just this author's spin for the article, trying to tie it in to the speculation that Disney will begin to charge for fastpasses (unless, of course, Disney is using blogs like this to desensitize us and plant the ideas, which I would be shocked by, considering Pete's commentary on the Disney PR machine). I've never seen Disney advertise a tour and Disney isn't suggesting that you take the tour in order to pay for fast passes.

I've used the new system several times and haven't missed out on anything I wanted to see or do and have been able to get the times I wanted, for the most part. Keep in mind that you don't have to be at the FP kiosk closest to the attraction you want to add fastpasses for (after your first 3). As soon as you've used the last of the three, head to the nearest kiosk and get the next one started. Have a wonderful time!
