New Aquaman Image

But I didn't like the Batman movies, either and I know that puts me in the minority. I like a little more escapism in my escapist entertainment.

You are not alone. I am no fan of Nolan's take on Batman either. I find them to be absolutely joyless affairs (Well, Begins was okay, but I hated TDK and did not see the third). It seems like all DC knows how to do is emulate that super-dark style. Now, Batman can be a dark character, so I kind of get that direction (though they went way too far in my opinion), but making Superman and Aquaman that dark? It just doesn't work for those characters.

It's like DC is ashamed of their comic heroes. Marvel will make movies with a character like Rocket Racoon and just go all-out with the idea! They embrace their comic book roots, even the silly stuff, and I like that attitude much better.

I kind of like AquaDrogo, (big fan of Game of Thrones, and I think they had to do something to make Aquaman look more formidable) but I agree that DC is too dark. I saw Man of Steel twice, and while I can appreciate it, I was desperate for some jokes to lighten it up. That's why I LOVE the Marvel movies and can watch them over and over. Same here. I bigger on Marvel than DC. There are times when DC is too dark, and Man of Steel killed me. I got bored and it just wasn't entertaining for me.

I'll be keeping an eye on this movie anyways. I'm excited for Wonder Woman (one of my favs). I think this Aquaman looks awesome though.

I think Acquaman looks sinister now. I never really thought of him as having a "dark" side when I watched him on Saturday morning in the early-mid 70's with the Wonder Twins and everyone.
I remember watching the Superfriends tv show in the 70s and reading the c
I obviously stopped following him before he became sinister.:)

My memory of him was more of like a swimming Ken doll...LOL!
I used to watch the Aquaman cartoon from 1967 - 1970 and read the comic book as well. I have to agree about the swimming Ken doll! This is how he looked back then. I'm not loving the new look, its too dark for me.

And to a PP, yes, armor is NOT a good call for an underwater hero o_O
I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at this. We are talking about an overall world where people can fly, have super speed, violate the laws of physics, can talk to fish, and a number of other things. But it's impossible for wear that sort of armor underwater? There are plenty of ways the universe can explain it.

Hey, it makes sense to me! I think we are "trained" to accept certain things, and not others. Walking Dead for example. We watch it and accept that it is 100% plausible and acceptable, BUT we go crazy at the improbability of Daryl and Carol surviving the van ride off the overpass. Or that no one got hurt in the bus rollover with Abraham and Co on the way to Washington. Get what I mean?

So yeah...flying, invisible plane, super strength all good. Heavy armor that will rust under water? No. :flower:

I'm the last one to criticize comics over unrealistic physics, it's more that the two paradigms just don't mesh. With superheroes the aesthetic mirrors their name and powers. When I think of an "Aquaman" I don't picture someone loaded with metal armor, I picture sleekness and fins. An armor made of scales would make sense, which is really what his traditional costume is. It's not that they have to have perfect physics, it's that they need to think about the overall feel that works with the character.
